Phew!
Excellent performance. F@cking up a million chances aside
Should have been 3/4-0
Pioli is winning me over again, I have to say. And not just because the results have turned but because he managed a crises and not only has he steered the ship back in the right direction, I'm seeing performances that we haven't seen for a while now. Certainly not during the back end of last year. The energy is back, the pressing is good, the build-up is fluid. We're missing the killer instinct right now and that's worrying but I am buoyed by the fact hat we're creating chances. Once Giroud and Leao get past their mental block we'll start scoring more.
I was completely on the #PioliOut train but I'm getting off it. He's shown that he can be more than 1 plan. He took us out of crises, made the changes to fix the obvious emergency situation we had in defence and now he's building on that. Great to see. And bodes well for his longevity.
Thiaw... What a player we have on our hands. Absolutely flawless. Shame that his only foul resulted in a yellow because he was otherwise unflappable. Against a tricky player like Hojlund as well who's very quick.
Kalulu and Tomori on either side of him, a beautiful thing to watch. They all have different characteristics that complement each other but mainly they are so very quick. And in this league, that's a currency that goes a long way.
Mike... I could cry I'm so happy to see him back in the team. His absence is on estimate directly responsible for 3/4 games where we lost points, which in turn resulted in a massive dip in form/confidence to the rest of our back line. We really need to find an adequate back up next season.
Tonali is improving steadily. He suffered through his own crises moment there. And although he had a couple of WTF moments today as well, he was mostly really good. Can' wait to have Benna next to him again next week.
Ibra looked good in those few minutes. Considering. His movement was lucid.

QUOTE (X-Offender @ Feb 26 2023, 10:52 PM) Also, what a boost in confidence to have Maignan back. And Bennacer will return for next game. Need to have a. fully fit squad for the Spurs return leg. Leao will miss the next one thanks to that stupid yellow. Can't seem to be able to put out our best 11 for love or money Should be the case against Spurs. I watched some of their game against Chelsea. They looked decent but with Chelsea going through their own downward spiral right now it's hard to tell if they were actually good or Chelsea were just garbage Maignan is massive. Bennacer is also hugely important for us but since the switch in system, I really don't see the massive dip in the midfield quality compared to how it looked when we rotated prior to the shift. Even before the WC break, whenever Pioli rested either Tonali or Bennacer, the massive drop in quality was hugely evident. Now the midfield just looks better in general, even while missing our most important outfield player (imo)

As for Leao, well, he was utter garbage tonight. Lost a couple of super easy chances and was never dangerous. The only good thing he did was the assist in the end, but the game was already won.

Overall terrible performance. How on earth did Pioli let this happen?

Woeful display
Leao missed. Brahim even more so imo. We missed his energy and link up. Bennacer looked off when he was on. Bakayoko... Why is he being given minutes?? He has not played all season yet you put him on here? A game where our midfield was under pressure all game long.
This is the 3rd season in a row that Italiano has beaten us while playing at home. Pioli just does not have an answer for him when his teams play with a high press. They did the same thing to us last season and the one before that with Spezia.
Not going to go apeshit over this. The Scudetto is lost anyway and we'll get CL football for next season. 100% sure of that
But we better get our sh!t together by Wednesday. Although I'm much more confident for that one. Leao will be back and hopefully Brahim as well
CDK had some silky moves but it just felt like we were playing with 2 men down with him and Rebic in there. Origi didn't offer much of anything either. Ibra has been without a knee for nearly a year and he looked better than all 3 in the few moments he cam near the ball.

QUOTE (Fillipo Simone @ Mar 4 2023, 10:39 PM) Overall terrible performance. How on earth did Pioli let this happen? Like I said, 3rd season in a row he has been raked over by Italiano. Not that shocking tbh Carbon copy of last season's game only Mike is there instead of Tata so we limited the goals conceded to 2
