I think it's time Jack explained why Torres sucked at Chelsea.

QUOTE (Jack Sparrow @ Aug 29 2014, 07:30 PM) *
Actually hopeful about Torres. Expect around 10 to 15 goals a season from him. On par return for a striker who will cost us around 6 to 8 million tops over the 2 years of his contract. We're getting him for free and the salary is 3 or 3.5 million rising up to 4 with bonus. I have to say that our wage cap is being held inviolate and I like it.

fwiw I am actually pleased with the signing too. Initially I nearly chucked up, but now, weighing it up, I'm a lot more optimistic about him than I was before.

He's a technical pace striker, who was actually used as a target man battering ram at Chelsea. AKA a 'Drogba'. It didn't work and it damaged him a lot.

If Conte thinks this will work out for Pippo's Milan, I trust him - because while he's a Juventini, he's an excellent manager with top class judgement.

In 4 years at Chelsea he's scored 20 league goals. You think he'll score 15 in one?

Weirder things have happened.

I think Torres suffered Kaká's fate, who after leaving us at 27 never was the same old player, and at 30 he was already a finished player. Can't see Torres doing more than what Kaká did for us last season. Another typical B&G signing, lots of appeal but zero planning. Just like Alex.

Torres will be for us exactly like Sheva was on his second stint. Mark my words.

Milan have sold Paloschi for a few millions, and now have signed Torres who will eat those millions in salary. Long term it's obvious what was the wise thing to do, but management seems impatient ...again...

Sadly, there are more examples to give.

Wasn't their some youth project?

That lasted long then.

Ok taking a look at his stats last season, he started 24 games for chelsea and scored 16 in all competitions. I think this sort of thing happens when a player loses confidence and is given a lot of sub opportunities instead of starts. He had 23 sub ins last season for chelsea.

This guy was one of my all times favorites. At his prime he was like no other IMO. I personally think it's too late for him to turn it around, especially for a player that peaked so early but his starts vs goal ratio last season is good. We'll see if Pippo can give the guy some confidence and truly count on him, then he might just step up!

Actually he was garbage for us for the last two years. Garbage by his own high standards. Ronaldo and Messi surpassed him totally. Hence us selling him was a genius piece of business.

Looking at his overall Chelsea stats:

172 appearances, 46 goals

It's over one in 4. For a player desperately low on form & confidence it's better than you'd actually think.

Hopefully Pippo can instill confidence in him again, and get him scoring because I agree - when on form he was an absolutely pearling striker.

You guys compare Torres with Kaka, but forget that they're completely different players. In his early years, Torres used to rely on his speed. But here the parallel ends. Kaka is an AM/SS and as such, his pace, acceleration and dribbling skill were vital. Strikers like Torres are a completely different breed. Just remember Inzaghi. Whit loosing his speed, he only got more lethal in the box.

Yeah that whole youth thing never really got off the ground, did it? I'm very disappointed with Milan's stance on Paloschi over these last few years. You'd have thought we'd have given him a chance at some point rather than just shipping him around.

Nah, not comparing them in that sense, more like drawing a parallel between their late careers.

Paloschi scored more than Torres last season. 15 goals in 36 games > 11 goals in 41 games. True story.
