QUOTE (Danny @ Jun 5 2014, 01:13 PM) And he chose us over a team who have Europe?
Doesn't seem just a little odd? It's not like he's a top defender in the prime of his career. Were there any other top teams who actually wanted him? That's what you really have to ask

QUOTE (CrazyMilanFan @ Jun 5 2014, 01:40 PM) he is referring to menez i think if it is about Menez, as x-off said, he was about to join Fiorentina, but we can still offer him better money than them, Europe or no Europe

QUOTE (han2503 @ Jun 5 2014, 09:37 AM) Nah, I'm sure they both would have easily found a club, and I find it hard to believe that any player would take advice from his old employers as to where he should go next.
Abate has been linked to PSG in the past, so it's not THAT surprising. But 8m should never be enough for him, especially not from a team like PSG who are willing to throw away 50m on an awful defender like David Luiz. A Russian team offered more than that last summer for Abate anyway
That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if they took it. Galliani is just THAT stupid. I may disagree with Galliani's choices and policies, and I don't believe he is the right person for Milan these days, but stupid he is not.

QUOTE (X-Offender @ Jun 5 2014, 03:01 PM) So, you would choose Fiorentina who play in the EL over Milan? C'mon, nobody is that foolish. Milan are still a huge name. Just because you're playing the EL cannot be considered an advantage. If they were playing CL, that's another matter. I agree that EL does not have the same appeal as CL. In addition, I believe Menez has a better chance to start at Milan, and my guess is that Fiorentina was not going to offer as much money. Finally, Fiorentina is doing well these days, but it is not Milan. Those of us on this forum tend to be rather pessimistic (arguably for good reasons), but I believe we still have more appeal than Fiorentina. (BTW, I have nothing against Fiorentina, my brother is a fan and I generally support them when they are not competing with Milan.)

Roma weren't in the CL last season, just the EL, and we lost out on Ljajjic, Pjanic and Strootman to them. So those 3 were THAT foolish, I guess.

So those 3 were THAT foolish, I guess. I think you are looking at this the wrong way. Did we even make a real effort to get any of these players? No, because we were too busy with the Allegri-Berlu drama for half the transfer season, followed by the Honda / Jovetic drama, and then we decided to spend the money on Matri instead. (And yes, we talked about them on this forum and probably they were mentioned in the media, but that is not quite the same.) Or are you saying that these players would have not gone to Roma if Roma was not in EL? (If so, I believe you are only looking at one of many factors that go in a player's decision.)

QUOTE (Danny @ Jun 5 2014, 04:46 PM) I thought we have a stubborn refusal to spend money? We have money to spend, just not a lot of it and IMHO we spend it the wrong way. We are unwilling to pay transfer fees, but we seem to have no problem with salaries (yes, we do have salary caps, but we pay way too much for mid-level players).

QUOTE (Forza Milan! @ Jun 5 2014, 03:27 PM) I may disagree with Galliani's choices and policies, and I don't believe he is the right person for Milan these days, but stupid he is not. Well going by the decisions he's made over the past 10 years I really don't know what to call him any more. The fact that people used to call him a transfer guru is laughable QUOTE (Forza Milan! @ Jun 5 2014, 03:31 PM) Apparently Juve also was after Alex, but I doubt it he would start there. As I said, neither player will be hard pressed to find another club, it's just a matter of what they want in the end. Playing time/CL team/big salary/etc QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Jun 5 2014, 03:39 PM) First option on him will mean nothing since we won't be willing to meet their valuation/match bid of another team. Agreed I'd only sell Abate for enough money to get us Santon and a bit of profit, if not, I'd rather keep him as it's difficult to find a good RB nowadays especially with the lack of money we're willing to spend QUOTE (Danny @ Jun 5 2014, 03:46 PM) Roma weren't in the CL last season, just the EL, and we lost out on Ljajjic, Pjanic and Strootman to them.
So those 3 were THAT foolish, I guess. Strootman I highly doubt we were ever really serious in getting, it just reeks of the usual BS and then finding out we never even contacted his agent. And Ljajic there was that whole back story with Fiorentina not wanting to give him to us and making him sign for Roma as the player would have wanted to come to Milan more than anything else. Pjanic, I don't know what happened there QUOTE (Danny @ Jun 5 2014, 03:46 PM) I thought we have a stubborn refusal to spend money? I think we shy away from big transfer fees, but when it comes to ridiculously throwing money at players in terms of wages we come in first in the league at that. That's why Napoli, Fiorentina and Roma all have relatively manageable wage bills compared to our exorbitant one. Muntari probably earns as much as half the team of Parma, and they came in ahead of us in the league. Just to put that into perspective a bit
