Just because the guy is a commercial goldmine atm does not mean he's not putting in the work necessary to get back to fitness.

Exactly, what should matter to any of us is that he's putting in the work necessary to recover, and I have never heard anything, even a whisper which would imply that El Shaarawy slacks off when it comes to putting the work in

He's a joke.

And you're strange...

Why is he a joke? Because he's good enough to have not one but multiple huge brand names wanting his name to advertise their products? Do you think if he wasn't good enough they'd want him? Do you see Muntari or Bonera getting huge advertisement deals?

Because he cares more about his name and looks than getting better on the pitch. And he's overrated.

And how do you know that? He skipped his recovery training or what did he exactly do?

Are you taking those pictures that serious? They're funny, that's about it, if you ask me.

As Fillipo said, how would you know this? Just because he has ridiculous hair that makes him someone who cares about frivolous things and someone who does not work hard?

It's a bit of a ridiculous assumption

It's my personal opinion. That's the vibe that I get from him. Football players that care much, too much about their looks are not OK in my book. At least if he had the talent to make up for it I might be OK. But he barely has any skills at all, except for pace and some decent finishing skills. Should have sold him this summer.

It's funny that you think think sponsorships are about ability. By that logic Beckham is 10x the player Messi is, even now.

SES really doesn't have much to his game. Even his strengths, as X-Off mentioned, aren't that special. Decent pace and finished, but neither are going to scar defenders all that much.

Well being our top scorer last season sure made defenders think twice about how to mark him

Beckham had many things going for him, but a player has to be at a certain level in order to attract companies into investing in his name. You think all of Ronaldo's deals are based simply on the fact that he looks good? And Messi has his own very impressive amount of deals.

If every player who had a strange haircut or had good looks attracted the type of sponsorship deals that SES has, then I'd say your point was valid.

El Shaarawy is popular in Italy, especially among teenagers ( (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) ), that's why he gets all the publicity. That doesn't mean he's a great player or world-class prospect.

Never said he was great as of yet, he certainly has the potential to be, as for world-class. 1 good season tells us nothing and 1 bad season tells us nothing in this regard either.

Considering the wages he earns and the fact that he turned down Man City to stick on in Milan, I do believe the boy is entitled to make as much money on the side as he can get..

Agreed.

I can't agree with this. This is not more than an loosely based assumption. You're entitled to your opinion, but I think this based on the fact of what the media projects more than anything else. You said it yourself, his appeal is with a younger crowd, and in my opinion because of this he is seen by the public in such a manner.

His work rate on the pitch never comes into question, so why should his time in practice be any different. I am sure he wants to improve.

Agreed. Time is still on his side. We should reserve our overall judgement for him until he has had the opportunity to display what he has to offer after several seasons, not one or two!
