What is the salary cap though? I've also heard of a mythical wage cap...but unless you hear the figures, you don't know for sure.

That's a lot of money for a club that is struggling financially, mostly because of the wage bill, and this won't help.

For half that price, and much less wage as well, you can sign younger creative mids like Afellay and Maher.

Sure, short term Kaká would be very nice, but I don't want the same thing happening over and over again.

How are you so sure of that?I'd prefer young talent as well,it's just we need someone with experience after all those departures.

Maher wants to leave AZ. He is upset, and tries to get a transfer to either Ajax or PSV. Both teams can't pay much money (7 million euros tops). Afellay has been rumoured to be available for 6 million euros, being offered to Arsenal and Inter. Unsure he still is up for grabs or that the coach wants to keep him, but at least we could try.

The team needs a reference point in midfield and Kaka would provide that. as much as I'd like us to sign someone who could become the next Kaka or Seedorf, we have no choice right now. we need a "champion".

We do have a choice. Are we preferring the short or the long term? Selling the likes of Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva made me think it's the long term that needs special attention. Now we partly will blow that by making a signing like this. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Kaká while he is quality, and will help this team a lot. Unsure it's the smartest thing to do though, but we need someone, that's for sure.

I would take Kaka for about 5 or 6m wages. It may be slightly overpriced, but this team needs a veteran leader desperately. Ambrosini alone won't cut it.

Also a silly, unrelated question - do football teams not retire jersey numbers of the greatest long-time legends (i.e. take the number out of future use)? This is a common thing in USA sports (i.e., no one will ever wear #23 for the Chicago Bulls after Michael Jordan did). If this was common practice I couldn't imagine Nesta's and Inzaghi's numbers not being up for this honor. Is Maldini's number eligible to use? I see no one has it on the list for this season.

You are not known with the numbers 3 and 6, Paolo Maldini and Franco Baresi, being retired? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Only Maldini's sons can take the #3, so it's semi-retired. Baresi's #6 is retired permanently.

It takes something very special to retire a number. beside being a great footballer, the best in your position, I'd say longevity and being a one club man are the main factors. as great as Pippo and Nesta were for Milan, they weren't one club men like Baresi and Maldini. Pippo played for our biggest rival and Nesta was a Lazio legend before they had to do a Silva to him.

I don't think an unproven talent (Ganso/Affelay/Eriksen/etc.) is the answer here. we need a proven champion, of course I would've liked Fabregas for example, but we should consider the possibilities too. beside Kaka do you know any champion who would come for the same price and on a 6m contract? I don't.

Afellay is not an unproven talent. He is a 26 year old attacking midfielder annex winger. Not only he carried PSV to success, but has also been starter for the national team, and has deserved a transfer to FC Barcelona, which is not some a random team. Maher is a different story, while he only has been playing one full season.

Exactly an answer to what, by the way?

The answer to the problem of the lack of a reference point / a leader / a champion in the team. someone who our young, inexperienced players can look up to, especially in difficult moments.

This x100.

Kaka IS a short term solution because we need one. We have no leader in the locker room except for Ambro. Yes, we need to have a youth movement but you should always have a few experienced guys in the team.
