Well I have a problem with this han.
I don't think we ever had 'good youth'. We had youth who would make the cut at a club like Genoa, but never a club like Milan. And guess, what we haven't for a long time.
We see Madrid, Arsenal, Man Utd, Barca and think of youth. But these clubs are spending 50 million a year on youth, where we are spending 14 or 15 million.
By all means, hike up that spending. But then that money comes out of something else. Most probably transfers. In other words, the Arsenal situation happens.
I wasn't just talking about the young players coming out of our own youth team, but the young players Galliani likes to play marry-go-round with. 95% of our mercato news every summer is of young players we buy from all over the league and young players we send on co-owns around the league. And the summer after that the players we bought the previous summer are sent on co-owns, the ones on co-owns are brought back and sent to another team on co-owns. Rinse and repeat every summer.
And we lose money every time this is done, because we end up paying more than the players are worth when we want to buy their contrac back again from these small clubs. It's why the loan system has been practically abolished in Serie A. Because the smaller clubs are getting something out of these deals.
We're just not Barca and no matter how many young players we try to get, none of them will make the cut at the end of the day. I'd rather not spend the money to get 5 young players in and buy someone good for the first team, because we all know where those 5 players will most likely end up.
