QUOTE (acid911 @ Feb 23 2011, 06:45 PM) Agreed, all this is useless speculation. I have seen Nesta give away stupid penalties in the box. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) And Silva although a monster, still has his flaws. Nesta, even with all his experience, did not cover Crouchy. His game-reading skills should have made him do much better there. Besides, we never know, maybe those two combined would have faltered. So like I said, we are 0-1 down, we gave away an away goal, and all this is mere speculation. Like you said, we can't tell. QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Feb 23 2011, 06:58 PM) In Nesta's defense, he did cover Crouch, but had to go towards Lennon once he beat Yepes. ^^^^^^^^^^ It's simple defendding 101. Don't lunge in when 1 on 1. Stand your ground! It's an ametourish mistake that I would have expected out of Bonera ala the Udinese game, which we slaughtered him over btw (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) How is Yepes exempt from citicism over it? Let's not use the Allegri rule book for judging players, had Pato, Sokratis, etc done a mistake similar to the one Yepes and Ibra did to start the chain reaction towards the goal then we wouldn't hear of them again (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

(IMG: style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I am dead sure of it. Nesta to much better? Are you serious? You never played football right?

He couldn't have stood his ground. He should have made the tactical foul, instead of pulling out. He'd have been sent off. But it was the end of the match anyway.

QUOTE (RinoIlCapitano @ Feb 24 2011, 02:37 PM) Nesta to much better? Are you serious? You never played football right? Right. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Though I did try my hands at underwater volleyball and horseback polo a bit when I was 3. Maybe I should not have said much better, but still being our best and most experienced defender, I would have expected Nesta to cover the player who was going to be played the ball (in this case Crouch). (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) He was found in no-mans land in between Lennon and Crouch. When in fact, I would have much preferred him covering and marking Crouch completely as well as clearing the ball, and left Amelia and Yepes to deal with Lennon. If Lennon would have shot into the net, then by all means be my guest. A judgmental error, and he is as much to be blamed for the goal as Ibra for giving away the ball (quite easily, I must say) in the first place. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) Allegri and Yepes take much of the blame. The former for playing Silva in the mid and not asking the team to stay back and save themselves from a deadly counter. The later for not going in for a hard tackle and getting a red card for the team. QUOTE (han2503 @ Feb 24 2011, 02:27 PM) Let's not use the Allegri rule book for judging players, had Pato, Sokratis, etc done a mistake similar to the one Yepes and Ibra did to start the chain reaction towards the goal then we wouldn't hear of them again Unfortunately, gonna have to agree with you on this. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) My issue was not how we conceded the goal, but Allegri should have known better than to try and get a solitary goal in the last ten minutes and putting his aged-and-slow defense and 2nd-choice keeper under pressure and immense risk from a counter. He practically put most of the men forward, thinking this was the second leg of something. I remember seeing our GK in their box for crying out loud. What on blue blazes was that all about? (IMG: style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) (IMG: style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) If you can't make the most of the 80-odd minutes on home ground, then it is much, much better to play it safe and go for an honorable 0-0, and then try your luck in the away leg. Absolute naivety, bordering stupidity, if you ask me. QUOTE (Jack Sparrow @ Feb 24 2011, 02:58 PM) Lennon was too fast. He couldn't have stood his ground. He should have made the tactical foul, instead of pulling out. He'd have been sent off. But it was the end of the match anyway. Agree on this. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/innocent.gif) I'd much rather have him make a harmless tactical foul and gotten a red, than giving away a very crucial own-goal. But what's done is done, let's see what he (and the team) does in two weeks time in London.

It's just a typical ametour play, Allegri is clearly not cut out for th CL, even an idiot would have known that Spurs will catch us out on the counter when we camped 10 players in their half, plus going all out for the home goal when we could have easily taken the draw and worked for a score draw away from home would have put us through. Now it's all or nothing. As for Nesta, I have to disagree with you, Yepes' mistake lead to the goal, any choice Nesta could have taken would have sill lead to the goal, had he stayed on Crouch Lennon would have easily slotted home himself

It's harsh and unfair: Allegris tactics and our attacking lead to the counter attack which enabled Crouch to score. Nesta and Yepes could only provide damage management, which Yepes didn't do to Milan standards.

QUOTE (X-Offender @ Feb 25 2011, 12:49 AM) Nesta and Thiago should always start together in big games. Well they did start. You meant, Thiago should be positioned as defender in big games, unless we have a younger and more agile defender (like we have) to pair with Nesta, right?
