Galliani, 'I have confidence in Leonardo and the team' There is a bad air at AC Milan. The day after the defeat in the Champions League against Zurich at San Siro, Adriano Galliani went to Milanello this morning to meet the team and Leonardo.
The Rossoneri CEO locked himself in the changing room with the coach and players before training. After last night’s game Galliani looked glum before the cameras, confirming his confidence in Leonardo. On Sunday AC Milan will play against Atalanta: they cannot make another mistake.
At the end of the face to face, Galliani told Milan Channel the four basic concepts expressed to the group. 1. "First I reminded them that this is a winning team". 2. "I reassured everyone, stressing that this group will not be touched and team will go on until the end of the season with these players". 3. "Milan is a team that absolutely must go in the Champions League and reach the top three, is required for the costs of the club". 4. "We must do more and better. I'm sure that with the group we will manage to achieve all our goals, I'm sure."
Galliani then concluded: "I spoke to Berlusconi, who once again expressed confidence in the players and Leonardo.

So, Sky tg24's sport section was interesting this morning. Got to see Albertazzi's goal (WHY CAN'T OUR GROWNUPS DO THAT?) and then there was a section on Milan. They described Milan as being in 'free fall', which isn't too inappropriate. They seem to think Van Basten will come in sooner rather than later, especially if Milan don't win in Bergamo.
Tuttomercatoweb is suggesting Billy Costacurta is another candidate for the Milan bench.

QUOTE Leo facing Milan D-Day Friday 2 October, 2009
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Milan may have insisted that Leonardo is going nowhere, but the Italian media are convinced that defeat to Atalanta on Sunday and the Brazilian will be out.
The club again underlined their belief in the tactician yesterday following a shock 1-0 home loss to FC Zurich in the Champions League.
However, the Gazzetta dello Sport and the Corriere dello Sport both lead with claims that Leonardo will be dismissed should their trip to Atalanta turn sour.
Milan have picked up just eight points from six games in the League since Leo replaced Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.
The pressure was already on the South American after a poor 0-0 home draw to Bari on Sunday evening before Wednesday’s setback.
Marco Van Basten, despite his agent’s denial, is regarded as a real contender for the position should Leonardo be shown the door.
Van Basten, the ex-Dutch boss and a former Golden Ball winner with the Rossoneri, has been out of a job since leaving Ajax.
However, he’s not the only contender with reports suggesting that Milan could turn to youth team Coach Filippo Galli. Like Van Basten, Galli is a former player.
Walter Mazzarri has also been associated with the role after he left Sampdoria for the unemployment queue at the end of last season. Likewise Delio Rossi, who was dumped by Lazio.
Nevertheless, some reports this morning are suggesting that Alessandro Costacurta could be an option.
The former Italian international, known as Billy, was part of Ancelotti’s staff in 2007-08 alongside Mauro Tassotti.
He was handed the Mantova job in October 2008 but he quit after a negative run of results with the Serie B side in February 2009. footballitalia.netVan Basten has a point to prove after his Ajax experience, his reputation as a players is unquestionable but as a coach? Not sure if he would carry the omph needed, Billy is the same struggled in Serie B and as for Galli..isn't it like appointing another Leonardo?

Ancelotti struggled (especially when Kaka was injured), any other coach will struggle with the current squad..

Yes...but with MvB there's no worry of holy cows. And there's a far better guarantee of change. Among all the Milan 'insiders' he's the one with the least skewered perspective. Leo,Billy, Galli, Tassotti etc. are I think, too close to the club and the players.

One of the interesting (and possibly fanciful) rumors making the rounds this afternoon in Italy is suggesting a possible return of Arrigo Sacchi in an advisory role, with one of the alumni (take your pick but it wouldn't be MVB because he and Sacchi do NOT get along) as titular head coach.
