According to mediaset, calciomercato, eurosport, etc etc, Esteban Cambiasso tore the meniscus in his right knee during one of the minigames in Pescara. He's going to have surgery and will be out for a couple of months.

Understandable.

I think Roma, Fio, Juve and Inter are all ahead of us right now - our target has to be 4th. If we can manage it it's a damage limitation exercise.

How are Roma and Fiorentina ahead of us? At the very least we're at the same level...

I'd say it's more Roma are equal, Fiorentina are ahead of us.

Fiorentina went to Portugal last night and fought back twice to gain a credible away draw in the CL. In pre-season we went to Portugal and looked appalling against Benfica.

Ok, it's a friendly, but the point is Roma and Fio aren't going through the turmoil we have this pre-season. We've signed a couple of good players yes, but we lost our manager, our best player, and most of the games we played.

I am not saying they're bigger clubs, or ahead of us in pedigree, I am weighing their current states against ours. And right now they have less problems than we do and more settled management.

At a stretch you could say all 3 are the same level, which means saying we will finish 5th is as valid as saying we'd finish 3rd.

It's pretty sad for a Rossoneri to have to accept facts like these. The state of the club forces us to decide which historically smaller and lesser sides are currently better than we are.

okay fine we lost our best player....we finished 2 or 3rd depends on which way you look at it what we needed last year was a guy that scored many goal and now we got huntelaar thats not enough but you have to look at it that kaka was out a lot and when he came back it would take him a while to settle in and when he would he would be out again for 1 or 2 months last year he scored 16 goals 9 of them as pks pato scored 18, inzaghi 17 or something and ronaldinho with 10...kaka was our main player but thing is that other players were better then him (not saying dinho is better) kaka was going on decline and i think if we play in a new system we won't miss him that much

I'd argue the fact that Roma are equal to us. Fiorentina? Possibly.

I do agree Kaka was in decline. In fact, I strongly agree with it. Pity, because at his best he was the world's best. It remains to be seen if his move will make him the best again.

Blog: And the winner is…
Scott Fleming puts his neck on the line and predicts the winners and losers of the forthcoming campaign
(IMG:http://www.football-italia.net/blogs/etoo460.jpg)

CHAMPIONS - INTER
Ciro Ferrara’s Juventus should form the most significant threat yet posed to Inter’s dominance. Nonetheless the depth of quality in the Nerazzurri squad, allied to a winning mentality installed by their prior Scudetto triumphs, should see Jose Mourinho’s men over the line. Just.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

2ND - JUVENTUS
Expect a highly motivated and formidable Bianconeri this term, but the Scudetto will remain elusive unless Inter are overly concerned with the Champions League or hindered by Samuel Eto’o’s African Cup of Nations absence.

3RD - GENOA
Once more they’ve lost their best players, once more they start the season looking stronger than ever – the Grifoni really are Serie A’s best run club. A bold prediction I know, but with shrewd investment in all areas of the team and the retention of Gian Piero Gasperini’s services I’m expecting something very special from Genoa.

4TH - ROMA
Don’t be deceived by the takeover talk or lack of signings, money is no guarantee of success. The fact is that Roma still hold their most prized assets – Daniele De Rossi, Mirko Vucinic, Philippe Mexes – and they will be desperate to atone for last year’s failure and win back the respect of fans. Underestimate I Lupi at your peril.

EUROPA LEAGUE

5TH - MILAN
It’s not wise to draw too many conclusions from transfer campaigns or friendly results, so I may be way off with this one. It is, however, impossible to ignore such a shambolic summer for the Diavolo. Having failed to strengthen in key areas and led by a novice in Leonardo, Champions League qualification is the best they can hope for, but it may be out of reach.

6TH - PALERMO
The likes of Udinese, Fiorentina, Lazio and Napoli will ensure a fierce contest for the European places, but expect Palermo to excel with Coach Walter Zenga and Argentine protégé Javier Pastore signed up.

RELEGATION

SIENA
The plucky Robur are accustomed to losing their best players, but selling all three – Daniele Galloppa, Juan Zuniga and Houssine Kharja – in one summer, will be too much for the Tuscans to handle.

BOLOGNA
The Felsinei’s transfer campaign brought quantity not quality, consequently they have stood still while the majority of Serie A has reinforced. Figure in the ownership confusion and it’s hard to see the Rossoblu pulling off another dramatic escape.

LIVORNO
The play-off winners unsurprisingly appear the weakest of the three promoted sides, and with their awkward coaching situation a return to Serie B looks likely

COPPA ITALIA WINNERS - ROMA
The Giallorossi nicked the Scudetto off arch enemies Lazio in 2001, so don’t be surprised to see them do likewise with the Coppa this year, especially considering it’s a trophy they’ve already won twice under Luciano Spalletti.

CAPOCANNONIERE - GIAMPAOLO PAZZINI
Former La Liga and Eredivisie top scorers Samuel Eto’o and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, goal poachers supreme Hernan Crespo and Alberto Gilardino – picking a Capocanniere isn’t easy in a Division with an abundance of striking talent.

Having prospered at Antonio Cassano’s side last term though, Sampdoria’s Giampaolo Pazzini is my bet. The 24-year-old and his strike partner will both go all out to earn a place in the World Cup squad, and as such Pazzini, the out-and-out frontman of the two, should rack up a serious tally.

::channel4.com::

Well I agree with this when it comes to the top and bottom teams... that is I too think Inter will win the c'ship with Juventus coming second and those three are the ones that will probably get relegated but I could not disagree more with the rest. I think Milan will finish 3rd, Fiorentina 4th (I bet my house that they won't finish below 6th place as this guy predicts), Roma and Genoa will fight for 5th and Palermo will not finish above 8th place... and surely Pazzini won't even be among the top three for the Capocannoniere title.

I really can't understand why this guy thinks Fiorentina will do so bad (compared to recent years).

Fishdoll declines to comment on an article that predicts Pazzini as capocannoniere. It's beneath his dignity.
