(IMG: style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) I said "I don't remember", in other words, in recent years (post-2000)!! sorry, didn't mean no offense. PS. And by 'defender', I meant CBs, Nesta-level CBs.

(IMG: style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) . Nowotny + Babbel are the best German defenders in the new century, IMO. But yes, they need one. Serdar Tasci? No, no thanks...

QUOTE (vnata001 @ Dec 6 2008, 10:01 PM) this is irrelevant to the discussion at hand about german defenders..but i just feel like randomly saying that...
i believe that the valencia/portugal box-to-box midfielder manuel fernandes is a clarence seedorf clone and has nice potential. He is a small tank, plays with very compact skill (which is what reminds me of clarence), intelligently, and is strong on the ball. I don't know enough about Cardacio to say he can adequately replace Seedorf..but i think Fernandes fits the bill.
just my random musing.. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Fernandes is nothing like Seedorf.

I'm going to suggest some potential Italian options.
Firstly, I'd bring back Abate from the co-ownership deal with Toro (for those paying attention, he's apparently recovered from his injury and is in the probable starting lineup for tomorrow's game). That's the easy one. I'd also bring back Paloschi from Parma.
I'd also suggest taking a close look at Luca Cigarini of Atalanta. He's on (I think) a co-ownership deal with Parma. Good AM. Finally, I'd also suggest Domenico Criscito of Genoa, a defender. The difficulty with him is that he's co-owned between Genoa and the Gobbi, though Genoa have an option to buy at the end of the season.

Cigarini is an attacking midfielder/playmaker who usually plays a little further up the pitch than Pirlo does for Milan. I think he's rather good.

They're different sorts of players, Jack, but those two ARE quite good. I suspect they'll both head to England, however. That's where the Sporting alumni association seems to be these days, with the lone exception of the cugini's Luis Figo. They'll also both probably be fairly expensive. That said, I sure wouldn't complain if Milan were to buy one or both of 'em.

True...
I was thinking of Veloso playing deep, and Moutinho taking over from Zee. As the all round creative player.
