Mixed reaction to Ronaldinho arrival

Buzz Up PrintROME (AFP) - There has been a muted response to the impending transfer of Ronaldinho to AC Milan by a number of the club's past players, according to La Gazzetta Sportiva.

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani is expected to meet Barcelona officials and the Brazilian's agent and brother, Roberto De Assis, in the Catalan capital in the next 48 hours to finalise the move and pay a deposit of 10 million euros.

Despite the 28-year-old's pedigree as a two-time world player of the year though, there is a feeling amongst former stars of the Italian club that perhaps he isn't the type of player they need.

Pierino Prati, who helped Milan win the 1969 European Cup, believes that the club still requires a target-man.

"He's definitely a quality player, but is he what Milan needs? Perhaps not. Looking at the squad it's evident that there is a need for an out and out centre-forward," he said.

Another European Cup winner with the club, Dejan Savicevic, is more concerned about the type of form Ronaldinho will be in as and when he arrives in Italy.

"If he starts training well and finds the form he had before, then he can be the star who makes things happen for Milan. His understanding with Kaka could be perfect," he said.

One person who is in no doubt that the ex-Paris Saint Germain player will be a star in the San Siro is fellow Brazilian, Jose Altafini, who played in AC Milan's first ever European Cup triumph in 1963.

"Last season Roma played the best football with one striker and three others playing off him. If Milan want to play this type of beautiful football, this system is the best and would be perfect for Ronaldinho," he said.






I really hope at least they bring back Sheva and Ronaldo , we really need a great name upfront

The site has been slicked up a little since my last visit...

Anyway from a commerical POV this is brilliant, he has vast marketing ability and we will be in the red no longer

As a player and person i am not convinced, as brilliant as he is, he is a party animal and is extremely disruptive, i also dont want him too close to Pato or the other young boys i dont think he is a role model of any kind

they want to come back as soon as possible but not sooner than 22 ( midnight )

Galliani , Assis , Ronaldinho and Bronzetti they want to comeback in Milan but there is still some work there

Barca: Dinho talks continue

Barcelona have released a statement confirming negotiations with both Milan and Manchester City are continuing.

“During the day negotiations continued to decide the future of Ronaldinho,” read the official note.

“Representatives of FC Barcelona and the player had several different meetings to discuss the situation.

“The Brazilian has received offers from Manchester City and Milan. The different parties are still negotiating his contract.

“The club maintains its conviction that Ronaldinho will receive the exit he deserves after his great contribution to the side over the past five years.”

According to sources close to Barcelona quoted in Spanish news agency Efe, the club has rejected the £11m bid plus £3.5m 'variable' as still too low.

The player has made it absolutely clear he will only accept a move to Milan, but their bid remains considerably lower than Manchester City's £25.5m.

This evening Rossoneri lawyer Leandro Cantamessa stated that only details” separated Ronaldinho from making the move official.

This suggests negotiations are still on-going and Barca are trying to force Milan's hand to at least go close to the City offer.
