I think the pressure put on Allegri with the signings made is starting to get to him.

You don't play that good as a one off. Sue Lecce gave us a lot of space but still we were really good, the way the entire team moved, constantly offering Pirlo options. I believe we can get that back, but the team needs time, time I don't think we have, especially if Inter really find their feet, we could be 10 points off by the time we really click again and that is something we can't afford to have happen

Well, according to Blue, the fruits of Allegri's work won't be seen until November. By that time Inter will be greeting us from above. rolleyes.gif

We must also consider the fact though, that our two best DMs (Flamini and Ambro) and our two second strikers (Pato and Robinho) were all injured for tonight. I mean, what are the odds really?

Milan odds?

I don't really understand all the injuries, over the past few seasons, our medical team has been cr@p imo, Pato, Dida, Nesta, Kaka, all having injuries that for some reason or another cannot shake off then tey go to another country and seek answers from somewhere else and they're back on track. All these injuries and we're not even a month into the season...

I don't think Flamini would want to play at RB, also imo, Zambrotta is our absolute best option for that position. I don't know why he didn't start today, but hopefully there is a good reason for it...

If Flamini is fit next game, we should try a Flamini--Pirlo--Boateng midfield. We really need some legs in there.

Imo al our problems lie in the concerns most had before the season started, the FBs and midfield. The midfield today in the first half was pretty much non-existant, Boateng running like a maniac into the box, Seedorf jugging around up the pitch, and Pirlo in no man's land. Bonera again, running up the pitch like a headless chicken, he doesn't know how to make runs that help the forward playing on his side, every cross he makes ends up anywhere but where it's supposed to, and not only that he gets caught out every time. Why? Because he's out of position, and this is something that I've been talking about all summer

+1

Pretty much agree here, yes I know we all know that Gattuso is a shadow of his former self but he was needed from the start to protect the midfield or Pirlo for that matter. Pirlo couldn't function today because he had to do defensive work as well which he's terrible at.

True, and every point lost here means double if inter win their opening games. dry.gif sad.gif Allegri has always been a very, very slow starter. I am sure some of you guys can dig the stats, but I read somewhere that almost all the clubs he's managed lose points in the double figure at the start of the season, but pick things up after that.

This was probably one of the main reasons why the Cagliari boss fired him last season, in November was it?!

Oh okay. smile.gif The first time I heard of Allegri as our new coach, was the first time I gathered more info about him. But nevertheless, he has a bit of a reputation of slow starts, and this Milan team terribly lacks chemistry, and not to mention injuries to key players first month into the new season.

Anyway, I will hold on the verdict until after he gets a fair amount of games under his belt. His subs were off though.

Aside from Bonera staying on when there was Zambro on the bench, I cannot really fault him, we needed a change in midfield, but we also needed a goal, he could have brought on Rino at any point in the second half and still everyone would complain as he's not someone you put on when you need a goal.

Pippo was way out of it aside from the goal, but our only option in attack was Odu, which was another problem. Allegri didn't really have much of an option either way, hopefully, we recover at least Robinho and Flamini by next game and Zambro is 100% ready

Wouldn't worry about it too much just yet. Remember that last season was an absolute disaster for the first 7 or 8 games, and at some point in March we were just 1 point off. Give not just Allegri, but also the team chemistry some time before panicing. I think we'll be fine.

Even though we played poorly it still took an incredible shot by Capuano to score the goal for Catania.

True, I was just taken aback by the late substitutions, it's not like we had a bench full of world class players raring to go. At most I would have taken Inzghi off at the 65 minutes mark, and also subbed Seedorf (he was exhausted all through the game) for what it was worth. And I never understood the Bonera situation either. unsure.gif Then again, the sign of a good coach is how he manages the team when there are injuries and whatnot. Most coaches can get good results with their first choice XI.

And as for when both Pato and Robinho are out, this is what I meant a few days back. sad.gif Our tactics would have to radically change, they did today and look at the result. We can afford one player out of the Fab 4 any given Sunday. Only if another semi-experienced striker was here!. Then again, if dreams were horses then beggars would ride, so can't really complain too much. It was just that sort of a day.

You guys are all overreacting way too much!

3 games played.

1 W/ 1 D/ 1 L

Its normal!

Lets be realistic and logical about current situation. After 8 years of xmas tree and defensive football we changed to a very fluid 4-3-3. We never had the players to play this formation and we still don't. The only reason it works is because of individuals like Ronaldinho who single handidly win games for us. Looking at the team aspect of it, it will never work because we don't have the players.

I will explain why in simple terms:

You need 1 Target man (Ibra is not this). He's a creative foreward similar to pato but can pass.

you need 2 wingers. We have no wingers in our squad.

you need a good play maker. We have this in pirlo.

You need 2 box to box mids as you guys like to call them. We have boateng and flamini. 1 is injured the other needs time to adapt to how serie A works.

you need a solid back 4. We have this. Only department we lack is in the RB.

Leo took over last year and did something i've never seen before. He made a system work that doesn't suit the league, doesn't suit the team all around the performance of 3 players. If pato nesta and dinho were healthy, it worked. How it worked...? I can't explain because its never made logical sense.

Now Allegri got the team leo built that adjusted to that system and now he's trying to figure out what in the world Leo did to make it work because it doesn't make logical sense. Even if mourinho stepped into this team he'd be scratching his head wondering how the f*** does a team as slow and low tempo as ours play a fluid attacking 4-3-3 based on interchanging player positions.

So now allegri has either 2 choices. Stick to leo's formation and make some tweaks to work it out with the players he has (which he's doing) or change the system.

Both require months of work. It also doesn't help the coach when you sell your starting striker in which he's worked with heavily in the pre-season for a striker of complete different charactersitics in the last week of the transfer window.

Now we have players who can't function at all because they are all too similar. Pato and Ibra are too similar. Robinho and Ronaldinho are too similar.

Borriello used to balance the trident out because he offered something different. But now we have 2 players with similar characteristics and allegri has to somehow find the formula to make it work.

Its not so easy as 1 2 3. The reason catania had so many Counters against us has nothing to do with playing gattuso or not. Its all to do with the system.

The 4-3-3 were playing is unstable and unbalanced and everyone looks confused in it. Playing a DMF will not make it balanced. What we need to do is adjust the roles of who does what. Leo somehow made it work mircariousily and now Allegri has to do the same.

Thats why I said it will be around November when we will see Allegri's true potential. He needs time.

QUOTE
As Milan failed to win at the San Siro for the first time this term, Brazilian ace Ronaldinho pin-pointed his side’s failure to break down Catania as the reason behind the dropped points.

“It is always hard to break through when there are men in numbers at the back,” the Brazilian declared to SkySport.

“We are leaving the field with our heads high this evening for the effort we showed out there.

“The team is improving and it is important that we keep our heads up as we look to add continuity to the performance.

“Last weekend’s defeat against Cesena is already behind us, and despite dropping two points today, we mustn’t be too downbeat.

“Sometimes you play badly and win and other days a good performance isn’t matched by the result.

“This is football however, and we must keep working hard week by week.”

*continuing from above post*

Now in Today's game, what do you guys expect. We have Inzaghi whose a poacher playing the target man and we have a creative foreward with little pace playing winger.

That right there shows me were gonna be in trouble. Had robinho played it maybe would have been a different result but who knows.

So the moral of the story is:

We finally have a decent team with some depth and a coach with some potential. Lets get behind our team and support them. Lets not be a real madrid and sack our coach if he loses 2 games.

Lets have some faith its only sept 18. The fun has barely started cool.gif forza milan!

Massimiliano Allegri stated :

"We have fallen in Catania's trap. They were very effective on counters, especially after they went 1-0 up. This prevented us from scoring more than one goal. We should have done better and I want more precision. .... Catania played well, they were very organized.

I am not surprised by that because everybody knows how tough Serie A is. Moreover, teams like Catania have an advantage over us in that they do not play every three days.

This means they are less tired and have more time to prepare for matches. .... We need to be patient, make less mistakes and have our injured players back from injury as soon as possible. With more men in the squad, we will be able to rest those who are tired for the upcoming matches".

No, let's be Real Madrid and sack our Milan Lab. dry.gif The guys have been falling like butter that gets hit through by a hot knife. Maybe they are not at fault, but that doesn't mean they are doing a good job as things stand.

That's true. I think this has to be Nesta's last season, he was so out of position all night and him + Silva isn't working all that well. I'd rather keep Silva because he has a tonne of years ahead of him, get him a partner. Some full backs wouldn't go a miss either.

Little dissapointed but its expected. Allegri's work won't be shown until november. You guys can jump up and down all day and say he's either brilliant or an idiot but it won't matter.

This is still leo's team. Allegri is not a wizard, he's not going to pop in and change the team in a month. Its going to take time and he will make some mistakes to see what works and doesn't.

He's our best option right now; hiddink level coaches are not realistic.

Milan does not need a miracle worker, IMO Milan need a more experienced coach with some kind of pedigree - at least one achievement in his career. Up till now Allegri developed a Milan with issues in every single department - the defenders seem unaccostumed to each other, the only reglar defender Milan fields right now sucks (Bonera), the midfielders don't work in his system and are not ratinally used, while the running forwards mostly spend energy on useless actions that end up in a dead end. I'm not satisfied with Allegri, I know, he needs time, but anyway...

I think it's time to drop the 4-3-3 line-up. This formation brings us too many problems. We have a good squad, but like Blue said, we don't have the adequate players for a 4-3-3. I really, really hope Dinho decides to not renew his contract and leaves for the US or Brazil, so we can finally sign a young and talented attacking midfielder (i.e. Pastore) and finally bring back the glorious 4-3-1-2 beauty that made us big in the last decade.

Amelia
Zambrotta - Nesta - T. Silva - Antonini
Boateng - Pirlo - Flamini
Pastore
Pato - Ibrahimovic

That would royally kick @ss. If you don't agree, then you're stupid (j/k).

Not sure about the substitute business. I'm happy we got Robinho and all...but our problems are elsewhere.

From the official site:

QUOTE
Massimiliano Allegri’s analysis at the end of Milan’s match against Catania: "We are on the right track, but we still need to improve. Tonight, the basic problem was that we didn’t play qiuckly enough, our game lacked intensity. Furthermore, we couldn’t handle Catania’s counter-attacks. Our players on the wings left too much space at back, leaving Pirlo alone in front of our defence. Unfortunately, we have to play every three days, this is something we still need to get used to. Our game, based on ball possession, takes a lot out of the plyaers. Boateng? He did well, he complements perfectly our midfield department. He’s been a great signing for the club. Obviously, we were expected to win today’s match, just like the one against Cesena, but I repeat that we have to be patient. We try to play a good brand of football, and because of this maybe we are not as efficient as we could be. We have to improve from this point of view.”

We've had the same problem for the past 3 years now. We run around in possession and are exhausted. Teams sit back and soak up pressure, and since they're less tired they launch attacks quick..and we're caught dead.

F@ckin annoyed with this shite. I don't know what it is that needs to be done. But we need our three soloists up front to start doing some hard labour.

We've got three top players who in most other teams are good enough (have been good enough) to have the entire setup dedicated to play for them. They need to stop talking 'team' and play team.

I don't envy Allegri one bit. Carlo suffered making R80 and Kaka play in the same lineup. Mourinho couldn't fit Lampard and Ballack in the same lineup. He still doesn't know what to do with Kaka...so this is a really tough time to be Milan's coach.
