MILAN spectacular. Now I feel that it is 11 on 11.

Dida: 6 Made a few catches. overall didn't have to do too much.

Oddo: 6 He was average, kept his side tight.

Nesta: 6.5 His fatigue is starting to show but he is still f*cking amazing.

Bonera: 6.5 There is still hope afterall.

Favalli: 5 Couldn't really do much defensively. Janku is the first choice.

Gattuso: 6 Not too rough, but still helped out everywhere <3 rino.

Pirlo: 6.5 Not a bad game at all.

Ambro: 8 You know what kaka isn't the only one who can score from half. Great goal and also gave gila a training ground goal. Really underrated but still amazing <3.

Kaka: 10 2 Goals, ran the attack. Perfect game by him. MOM.

Seedorf: 7 SHOULD HAVE SCORED OMG. Played really good imo.

Gilardino: 8 FINALLY I MEAN FINALLY WE HAVE 11 ON 11. CONGRATS GILA. Other than his diving, he played really good. He was splitting the defence quite well.

subs: n/a they didn't do much.

I mentioned that because it looked like Gila was playing deeper then Kaka, he was working really hard running all over the pitch and laying ball off to Kaka. This mostly occured in the second half. Kaka was practically playing as a box striker but still drifting everywhere

What was different today.

1. I think Lazio playing in the CL midweek took it's toll on their players. I know we had one too and it was an away game but our players are used to it.
2. Seedorf was trying! He has not been genuinely bad this season but he wasn't trying 100% either!
3. Pirlo got physical! He's a great space covering defender but tonight he took some tackles that blocked their game!
4. Our formation lines were closer than usual to each other thus resulting in much better link up!
5. Lazio's approach to the game, they are not a defending team and we took advantage of the spaces they left uncovered!
6. I believe they gave up after the third goal.
7. Kaka was allowed too much space but he was also trying to find some himself! Best performance from him for the season and we all know how much we rely on him!
8. Billy on the bench! king.gif
9. Kaladze's absence, his bad karma faded away and let us thrive!! tongue.gif

Grazie Milan!!! sleep.gif

Great, great, great!!

But we still have to work on our tactics, claiming victory in such an open game shouldn't distract us from our problems. We have to find out who are we going to break apart tight defences...

Ratings:
Dida 6 Didn't have much to do but did it right! Hopefully that will allow him to breathe...
Nesta 6 good defending but many misplaced passes.
Bonera 6,5 He was good, made some smart fouls but had some bad positioning too!
Oddo 6,5 very good at the back, he couldn't go us he usually can.
Favalli 5,5 No mistakes but he cannot keep up with the youngsters. Still a great sub.
Gattuso 6,6 Worked really hard just some lame passes.
Ambro 7,5 Amazing goal. Really smart header for Gila's second and a verey good perfomance overall!
Seedorf 7,5 Very good tonight!
Pirlo 7 Also very good!
Kaka 8 !!! Oh boy...
Gilardino 7,5 I hope he's back for good! This might earn him a return to the NT!

Grazie Milan!! sleep.gif

Yeah especially since we are at home, they might be even more reluctant to come out of their shell.

Our CB's did not actually combine very well... cause they didn't have to... I mean, there was no need for backup whoever got a step ahead to block the forwards did it right! Their passes were not so good. I think it can be very good in the future... but I'd still rather we got a truly special defender to partner with Nesta!

Seems like that was han. To me, it was more like Gila made way for both Kaka and Seedorf to play as true trequartista's... that was one difference too! I think it worked well! I mean not judging solely by the scoreline, it truly got on well... tongue.gif

It's really great that we found (it seems so) our form before Paolo and Ronaldo will be in for us again. That way they don't have to handle all the pressure,..not that they are not able to do that, but...
han2503
What we need to get clear is that we shouldn't get carried away just by this performance and also on the Gila situation.

Did that performance remind you of the Milan of old when we still had Sheva? Yes

Did Gila's goals remind you of the goals he used to get with Parma? Yes

BUT it's only just 1 game now we just have to see if we can build on it. Too bad that there is international break coming up, hopefully it won't ruin any momentum we could patentially win with this win, but it will also give some of our players some much needed rest.

As for the next game against Empoli, IF Ronaldo is back then we will do well not matter how much they will stay in their shell, but if Ronaldo is not back we need Kaka to play like he did today if we want to win

Here are datasport's ratings:

MILAN

today's performance was beautiful to watch. But im waiting this out. Yes, gila played like the player we bought him to be. However, one of the knocks against Gila that has been repeated in this forum NUMEROUS times is that he only scores at moments that aren't necessarily crucial to milan's success. Yes, he finished very well on his second and his goals did make the scoreline very flattering, lets all not have such short memories. I want to wait for him to start being a CLUTCH player for us..and when i see some consistency, then ill start singing his praises. We are pleasantly surprised and overjoyed when Gila plays like this today, whereas if Didier Drogba or RVN or Hernan Crespo scored those two, it would have been nothing unexpected. That's the confidence i want Gila to give us and to this team. Lets wait before we hail him as the new savior.

--------------------------------------------

My assessment ..

Dida - did brilliantly to stop (in particular) 3 attempts from Lazio !! A truly magnificent Dida

Nesta & Bonera - didn't do much, but they held the line as best they could

Oddo - great link up with midfield.

Favalli - he did pretty well ..

Ambro - yes that was a cross to Kaka' .. But what a goal

Pirlo & Gattuso - the dynamic duo ! king.gif

Seedorf & Kaka' - they were rocking tonight !!! (Kaka' was actually used as a SS in the 2nd half)

Gilardino - My oh my !!!! Both his goals were brilliantly executed, especially the second

Carlo - He played the same tactics the same formation .. But this time around, the team played with even greater humility and turned the tide!

My Milan !!! A Beautiful Milan wub.gif
KillerMax
I agree with vnata001. Look how Inter's Cruz is playing. He gets a call, he scores. No big deal. He has scored more than Gila and hasn't even played close to half of what Gila has. So as happy as I am for Gila, I am not excited about him.

But I have to mention it was so beautiful and emotional when all of Gila's teammates embraced him after his first goal. Brought up some amazing emotions.

Ancelotti Praises Second-Half Display

Milan Coach Carlo Ancelotti was delighted to have stopped the recent run of poor results and praised the second-half performance of his players.

Milan went into tonight's game with Lazio having not won in the league since the opening day of the season. This included just five goals in five league games.

However the Rossoneri doubled this goals tally with a stunning 5-1 victory over the Biancocelesti at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I’d say that we had a bit of a nervous start, but after taking the lead we built up this win. It was a delicate and difficult game, but certainly changes the atmosphere surrounding the club,” Ancelotti said.

“Our second half was of a very high level, alternating possession with quick moves into space. The two strikers played brilliantly.”

Two players who have particularly been under-fire are Alberto Gilardino and Dida. Gilardino had failed to score this season and had been booed and jeered by his own supporters on a number of occasions. However the striker scored twice, including one stunner, to silence his critics.

Dida also had a sound game in goal and looks to have had no ill-affects from all the furore that followed his histrionics during the Celtic game on Wednesday night.

“I never considered dropping Dida. I think he remains a great goalkeeper who, like everyone, makes mistakes, but we never thought of replacing him,” said Ancelotti.

“The break for international duty comes at the right time, as it allows us to recover some players we had out injured. We accept criticism, but some went over the line. In any case, it has been a complicated week.”

We don't need a replacement, we need serious backup, just to be sure,.. rolleyes.gif

QUOTE
Gilardino Happy With Milan Display

Milan striker Alberto Gilardino was happy to have scored twice during tonight's emphatic victory over Lazio and hopes to continue this form for the remainder of the season.

Gilardino went into tonight's game at the Stadio Olimpico with his confidence at rock-bottom. He had not scored a single goal all season and had even been booed and jeered by his own supporters during the recent home games against Benfica and Fiorentina.

However Gila was given the nod to start ahead of Filippo Inzaghi and silenced his critics with two goals. The second-strike was particularly impressive, a stunning first-time volley into the top-corner of the net.

"Tonight we showed that we are not the team that many have recently tried to paint us as," said Gilardino in response to those that have said that Milan are a spent force in Serie A. "We want to do well, both in the Championship and in the Champions League."

"As for me personally, I just want to try and do well until the end of the season and try and make it to the European Championships.

"People have been saying alot about how I have not scored a goal for six months but it is difficult to score during the summer when the season is over and you are on holiday."

I hope this is a bad translation,.. huh.gif
Darunia
Well.. he is right, half of those 6 months were vacation biggrin.gif

I was pleased with his overall movement today... except his dives. Some of those dives were really bad... and ironically he gets a yellow when he "isn't" diving.
Tennie
Actually, Fillipo, it's a pretty accurate translation of what Gila said, unless I'm completely misreading the Italian.

PS - In a post-game interview, Fester said that he was on the phone talking to his son. The son was watching the game on TV and Fester wanted confirmation that the ref had made a bad call in not awarding Milan that first penalty.
MizNelson
Wow, what a haymaker against Lazio. Maybe the fallout from Celtic was the wake-up call we so desperately needed. For some reason, FSC showed the match on a thirty-minute delay to make way for the Super Clasico.

Gila sure as hell made a statement today, by God. Even with all his diving nonsense that Nedved would've been proud of, he was a bundle of energy all day and it's only fitting that it culminated into a goal. Or two. smile.gif
amancik
Hopefully, Gila carries his form to the next game
I've always liked his style of play, but sometimes he falls too easily
He deserved it

Kaka was unstoppable really

Ambrosini played better than Favalli defensively, I was really nervous when Lazio attacked with De Silvestri on the right flank of Lazio

Overall a good performance, I think this season is Pirlo's best yet, his passing and vision can drive you crazy, I actually stood up when he made the pass to Kaka' for Kaka' to score Milan's third

Seedorf, sometimes he's a liability when he's not defending, but when it comes to attacking, any team would love to have him

Bonera, played a pressing defensive tactic, but came out too early at certain occasions which left a gap in the defence especially when Lazio on counters

Spot on! Great win, great play. But. But, one can't help feeling Lazio were there for the taking. I mean they left space for us to move in, their keeper was like a part-time keeper and all that. Maybe their CL game against Real has taken its toll. This game is not enough to mask the problems of the team, which is too obvious for all to see. This is not taking away anything from the players cos you only beat what's before you.
kurtsimonw
I know Lazio were going through a rough time. But after our early season crisis, and the Celtic game which would have hurt any team, it was a great response. Any win in the Olimpico is a good result, doesn't matter what circumstances surround it.

Still, I won't get carried away with Milan, or Gila, just yet. One win isn't enough to put us back up there. Next game is going to be tough, Empoli are a very good side, who have come off a great season and look to repeat it again this year. A win would be great, we NEED to turn the San Siro into a fortress!

Exactly. Oddly enough I'm more concerned with the likes of Empoli. I mean those small teams give us more headaches than the bigger ones. It is one of my "grouse" with CA. I can't believe that for the past seasons he hasn't figure out how to overcome them. You don't approach Genoa, Catania, Parma the way you approach Fio, Inter, Juve. It won't work.

Anyway, that Lazio win would surely be a morale booster. Whatever happens,

I agree. I myself predicted a 0-0 draw, since our last two road matches at Lazio ended like that. I definitely wasn't expecting us to play like a house afire, especially since it came after the adversity at Celtic.

However, it definitely showed that class almost always comes through when the chips are on the table.
