Galliani: Forget The Heat, We Played Well Adriano Galliani, AC Milan vice-president, shrugged off the idea of a day too hot for football, instead reflecting on other, more pertinent issues for the rossoneri...
Like so many others, Adriano Galliani today questioned the widsom of a 3pm kickoff in the height of an Italian summer... in his own inimitable style, of course. even after AC Milan romped to a 3-0 win in Genoa
With more than a slight not to Roberto Mancini, the Inter Milan coach, the rossoneri vice-president said, "I agree when many of my presidential colleagues dispute the need for a kickoff at 15:00."
"
Perhaps they should remember the 63 million euro TV highlight deal that necessitated this timetable," he added.
Instead, despite AC Milan's 3-0 win in Genoa, he had his own gripe: players not retreating ten yards during a set piece, or for otherwise getting too close to the action (or referee.) And for this, he offered a Brazilian solution.
He said, "
I want to bring up another problem: the distance of the 'barrier' from a set piece or stopped play"
Today, [Clarence] Seedorf received a booking for protests, but I believe the solution is a simple one.
"In Brazil, the referee can spray a line on the pitch which cannot be passed. It seems an intelligent and easy solution to me."Galliani did reflect on the game, though, musing, "It was very satisfying, a spirit of a good start helped us. We played well everywhere.
"
Gilardino was excellent, but I must make compliments above all to Oddo, who played beautifully."
The vice-president went on to praise his hosts at Genoa, adding that he looked forward to seeing the Milan tifosi return to the city next year after Genoa's inevitable survival in Serie A.
Milanese fan were unable to attend today due to a security ban.
