Fillipo Simone
So, Kalac has a 450 min. clean sheet record by now...!! I'm impressed, never guessed that he'll hold that long..

What's Dida's best?
aLbErTo
kalac in fact has 472 minutes clean sheat...he got beaten last time against atalanta in 68minute...quite impressive smile.gif go zeljko tongue.gif doesn't he look like mafia, sicilian maybe, or russian...he plays soccer undercover tongue.gif

hehe...to me too smile.gif but wait till u see him in D&G clothes...u'll change your mind...
MizNelson
At the beginning of the 06-07 season, Dida kept a 446-minute scoreless streak, but nobody remembers that. Whether it's his longest, don't know.

The Atalanta game was 1/23, and we've played three matches since then. That makes 270 minutes.
acid911
I surprised there hasn't been much talk about Kalac lately. It's been a full 3 months since someone posted in this thread. ohmy.gif It would be interesting to hear people's thoughts on our keepers, particularly the East European one.

Anyway, the honeymoon period for our keeper has ended, and he's unfortunately back to his usual self. In fact, Kalac vs Napoli toady was a shadow of the one he was at the start of the second half. He could very well have saved all three goals. Maybe it's the fact that Dida was on his tails then, and now his place in the starting XI is confirmed for the foreseeable future. dry.gif

Having said that if Dida was in the post today he'd have been crucified. And that's an unbiased comment. Players like Dida and Gila are easy to make scapegoats of, maybe because of the fact that they keep quite and don't create waves in the dressing room or the media (Seedorf, anyone?). huh.gif But the fact remains that he's had it pretty easy ever since our Champions League matches against Arsenal - he was very lucky not to concede in the first one, and in my opinion, by the second leg he started degrading on all fronts. Before that he was pretty solid, even if I say so myself. The fact remains that we needed someone who'd step up and save us points and matches, and in the last few weeks Kalac has not been that man.

Irrespective of whether we signed a new number one this August, it would have been a much better idea to get the confidence of Dida up and played him when he was fit. The Brazilian was very solid for a couple of months after that infamous event in Scotland, but his Inter match ruined all the good work and confidence. unsure.gif Maybe Kalac could have done with a short rest in between? Or maybe he's back to his normal self. But the fact remains that a part of blame must be shared by Kalac too, and surprisingly not many talk about his performance.

We do need a new keeper, yes? In my opinion we also need a low cost, solid number two. Someone younger. Because after all, the Croatian wonder Kalac (35) is an year older than Dida, and not getting any younger. What say you guys to spending a couple of millions for a younger number 2 to whoever starts for us between the posts next season? One that learns our system of play and be available when needed.
dst
He's good as a sub in my opinion.
acid911
But is he the best sub we can get? Someone who consistently performs and saves points for us when our number one gets injured for longer periods of time? Honestly, I'm not very sure about that.

I'd much rather have a younger substitute than him. Someone more dependable.

Yes, but nothing more. Also it would be wise to introduce a new, younger keeper as second next season so that we can count on him for the far future. Kalac should be sold, cause this season he made what he could, and it was his maximum.
Devillito
I didnt even try to criticize him because
i didnt put any high expectation from him.
Instead, I blame it on management and coach.
We DO need a new 1st keeper and keep Kalac as a back up.
I'd love to see Akinfeev in Milan but it will only remains as a dream.
Same with Buffon and Cech.
Amelia is good IMHO but not good enough to be numero uno.
Im not really excited with the prospect of having Frey as our new GK.
Dont know why.

All in all i think Kalac is good as a backup.

+1. Inter had Toldo as a substitute, and he is miles ahead of Kalac. Personally, I think someone younger as our number two is the least we deserve. Someone who can grow with time. And if we do intend to do some housecleaning this summer, we should shell out some change for a keeper who'd go up with time, not down. smile.gif

Kalac played 14 years for Australian, and stayed an understudy, playing only 54 matches. There has to be a reason for it. Honestly, I'd be contend if we kept him, but feel even better if a young, upcoming and more dependable keeper warmed our bench. That's the least we deserve.

Kalac Wants Starting Role At Milan

Milan goalkeeper Zelco Kalac is looking forward to the new season and he insists that he will save the Rossoneri's blushes next term as he tries to become Carlo Ancelotti's regular first choice custodian.

The Australian shot stopper was influential last term and he took over Nelson Dida midway through the season as Carlo Ancelotti's first choice custodian after the Brazilian's woeful displays in front of goal which cost Milan dearly.

Kalac is now looking ahead and he is hoping to keep the faith which Ancelotti has shown in him.

“I think I did well last season and now I want to begin the new season as the first choice,” Kalac told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

“I want the coach and the club to continue showing their trust in me and then, after all, it will be what I do on the pitch that counts.”

The Rossoneri are currently looking for a top-class shot stopper to replace the unreliable Dida.

His howlers in both the Champions League and Serie A went towards ensuring Milan finished the season without any silverware.

Dida will be remembered for his shambles against Celtic at Park head during the Champions League group stages when he collapsed to the ground for no reason following a minor altercation with a Celtic fan.

Milan have been after Sebastian Frey of Fiorentina and Celtic's Artur Boruc but neither goalkeeper seems likely to arrive.

Abbiati and Dida are still better. Dida has to try come back. He needs to be fit for the new season. And meanwhile we have to find another keeper to be our No. 1...
Rossoneri7
I think Dida will start the season as #1 ... I expect him to be back to his best.

Forza Dida king.gif

Kalac > Dida. We made a run for 4th with him in goal, rather than being stuck in mid-table. THough I don't mind too much if Abbiati starts.

We wouldn't have made 5th or maybe even the UEFA Cup with the way Dida was playing.

And that Celtic incident.. I'll never forgive him for that, diving is bad enough, but that..

Here's an interesting article. I'm just posting the link because it's fairly long.

Kalac targets sideline job

I never knew he had a knee injury; guess the team kept it one hell of a secret.

acid911
Since it's 16th at my place, I guess it's time to say 'Happy Birthday' to the big guy! biggrin.gif Enjoy your day, mate. And to think this time last year, Kalac was about to be thrown into the mix after Dida's sloppy form.

No chance,..guys I warn you, this guy cannot be trusted. He's a real danger...

That he is. And I'm afraid Abbiati is starting to fade into the same void after a bright start. I quiet honestly recall a match where he single handily won us, and got an 8-9 in the process. innocent.gif Both unfortunately are 2nd choice material, and were it not for Dida's bad form, might not have earned the top spot.

Anyway, for the moment, I don't mind them here. But a top, young keeper (Samir Handanovic gets my vote) should be a top priority, unless it gets too late. Which probably is.

If there's anything you should avoid when scouting players from this region it's keepers. Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, Slovenian keepers...they are just like South Americans. They are born with a bug. They always managed to make wonders, like Kalac also, but screw up in the most unexpected way. Trust me, Handanovic is nothing different.

My suggestion - Roma no. 2 Curci.

This was too bizarre to be ignored. From acmilan.com:

MILANELLO - Due to a problem to his cervix, Zeljko Kalac is forced to stay at Milanello. In his place Carlo Ancelotti has called up the goalkeeper of the Rossoneri's Primavera team, Antonio Donnarumma.

Now, either that's a very bad English translation, or our #3 GK is a constipated hermaphrodite.
Tennie
Perhaps we should ask dst to explain. biggrin.gif

(the italian version uses the term 'cervico-brachialgia' - so it's a disc problem in his neck)

LOL to the translation

QUOTE (TheRoar.com.au)
The unravelling of Spider’s web

It wasn’t so long ago, November last year, in fact, that Zeljko Kalac was talking about returning to Australia to coach in the A-League. Coaching, not playing.

“I’ve had a lot of critics in my career, and if I went back and tried to play in the A-League, my motivation would only be about 30 per cent and when it’s that low you are bound to make mistakes,” he told SBS. “That would just give fuel to people who would want to knock me. No thanks.”

Funny that a guy who puts so much store in motivation can turn his back on his representative career because he’s lost the will to fight for the No. 1 jersey and decides he’s happy being a permanent back-up keeper at AC Milan.

Who could blame him though?

What goalkeeper coming to the end of his career would turn down that opportunity? Italian digs. Nice fat pay cheques. Hanging out with Ronaldinho, Clarence Seedorf and, until recently, Kaka.

Get a few jerseys signed for the lads back home. Spend a few bob down the betting shop. A bloody doddle.

But ten months on, Kalac’s charmed life has come to an end.

New Rossoneri coach Leonardo has decided the Australian is surplus to requirements at the San Siro and terminated his contract by “mutual consent.”

Kalac’s replacement is AS Monaco’s Flavio Roma.

It really was too good to last, especially for a player who is a model of inconsistency. Kalac should be thankful he managed to stay there nearly four years and made a motsa in the process.

Some regard him as an inspiration. An Australian at AC Milan? Respect.

Others, such as Mark Schwarzer, take another view: that Kalac took the easy option. Didn’t challenge himself.

Certainly Schwarzer makes great hay out of the fact he is playing regular first-team football for a European club and his old adversary is not. Equally, though, it could be said Schwarzer never challenged himself by taking up offers from Bayern Munich and Juventus when they were on the table.

He didn’t take them up because he wasn’t guaranteed first-team football.

The pressing question now, though, is does Kalac have the humility to come back to Australia and find that motivation he says he would lack playing in the A-League?

I hope he does.

He has made all sorts of noise about wanting to put something back into the Australian game and I don’t think there would be a better way to do that than still be playing. He’s 36, hardly a senior citizen for a goalkeeper, and would have two or three seasons left in him.

There’s talk of a Parma move but that in my view would not a fitting end to Spider’s career: it should be in Australia, in the A-League, when he’s still got something left to give.

If Jason Culina can come back at the age of 28 (he just turned 29), then there’s no good reason why Kalac can’t come back now.

There wasn’t a whole lot to be proved by being a benchwarmer at Milan, but there’s plenty in swallowing his pride and coming home.

i never liked Zejko,i never will.
