Milan ponder Sereni swoop
Saturday 25 November, 2006

Lazio’s Matteo Sereni is the latest goalkeeper to be linked with a January move to Italian giants Milan.

The Rossoneri are expected to sign a new shot-stopper after Nelson Dida picked up a knee injury at AEK Athens in midweek.

The Brazilian international will definitely be out for at least two months, but could also be sidelined for as many as four.

With that in mind Milan are looking for a custodian and Sereni is a realistic target for a New Year loan move.

Sereni, 31, is only a back-up at the Stadio Olimpico as Lazio boss Delio Rossi prefers veteran No 1 Angelo Peruzzi.

The former Ipswich man would come with the added bonus of being eligible to play in the Champions League.

Milan have also been paired with Livorno’s Marco Amelia, yet his use in the UEFA Cup this term means he wouldn’t be able to feature in Europe’s premier club competition.

Football Italia is wrong there. After the January transfer-window closes you are allowed to make three changes. Of those three changes one is allowed to be registered and have played for another club in a European Club Competition as long as it is not the same competition.

Sereni would be an excellent second choice keeper. But we need a routinee now, someone who can easily adapt and become part of our squad. Amelia is more a future keeper, but I don`t see him as a instant invetment. There are some interesting keepers aroud - Weidenfeller (probably BVB won`t let him, but I have to mention him), Pletikosa (excellent form + he is avaible and can play the CL matches), or some in Italy like De Lucia (Okay, he is pretty green too) or De Sanctis.. cool.gif
