I hope Conti is usually better than tonight, for me this guy - judging from last 10 minutes is not worth even 10 m.

To quote myself, he's doing what I'd do. Footballers have short careers, might as well exploit it while you can. He's not done it in an especially dignified way, but if my team is offering 5M a year and someone else is willing to go higher, I'm gonna go with them.

It's a job, at the end of the day.

You'd risk your fledging career to go for 1m more per year when your boyhood club is offering you more than your idol currently earns?

You realise that if Donna does really go to Real and he has a bad first season he's pretty much done for outside of Italy right?

The smart thing to do would have been to sign on and then re-evaluate later on in your career. He's still 18 FFS, he's got plenty of time to make big money, but he's also at a crucial point in his career as well, a wrong move now could really hurt his development. honestly, I do not understand how his family could have let him get so blinded by Raiola, at Milan he's treated with kid gloves but at the same time he's also treated as if he's the best thing since sliced bread

How this move from him could ever be considered smart is beyond me

May I play devil's advocate and point out this isn't supporting your team?

Who cares? He deserves it!

And just to join your law firm ((IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ), the people putting up the banners and throwing the money are Polish Milan fans. I don't think they really care much for the Azzurini anyway

What? I was just thinking he's doing very well. lots of energy, great runs and some good tackles as well.

Considering we would be signing him for 30m - which is close to what we signed Romagnoli, I expected much more. He made some simple mistakes, even though he looks quite energic and has some good tackled. I am not sure I like him on the offensive though.

Oh, I didn't know that.

Because he doesn't think he'll have a bad first year? Any footballer who fears that, shouldn't be playing.

Romagnoli didn't get going at Milan for quite a few months. I wouldn't judge on one display.

No matter how great you think you are, and I'm sure he is immensely full of himself, the risk factor is always something you consider, even if you're just changing from one menial job to another in every day life

I don't think it's a matter of money. The reason he (or should I say, Raiola) decided to refuse our offer regards the clause that he wanted to insert into Donnarumma's contract.

Raiola doesn't trust our new owners. Some time ago he said that Suning (Inter's owners) are serious businessmen with the clear intent of making Inter one of the strongest 6-7 cubs in the world, whereas Milan's new owners are only losing face, with the continued closing postponements and all (at the time).

He has serious doubts regarding our new project, and hence required that some clause which favored Donna's potential departure in the future was inserted in the contract. Obviously Fassone and Mirabelli would never have that. Moreover, they requested a decision as soon as possible by Donnarumma, whereas Raiola wanted to wait a little longer, maybe see how our summer signing campaign would pan out before putting pen on paper.

There was a clash of ideas and principles, hence the falling out.

Nevertheless, Donnarumma's on the wrong here. Not only he should have shown respect towards the club that valued him when he was just a teenager that nobody knew, but also towards a club willing to make him earn more than any 18-year-old footballer in the world, more than Buffon, with the intention of making him the new club symbol and future captain. He owed us, but he decided to follow his corrupt agent instead and that was the wrong thing to do.

The only thing that worries me is Raiola's assessment regarding our new management.

Raiola: "We were threatened, Milan have lost Donnarumma. I take the responsibility of his choice. There was on overly hostile and violent situation that was created. Donnarumma was threatened, his family was threatened. Threats of not playing, death threats, banners never removed from the management and passive behaviour against us. It was never an economic matter, if there are two parties that want to find a solution they'd have done it. They [Milan management] handled a top player like Donnarumma wrongly, they were too exuberant. I wanted to know Milan's project gradually? Yes but I was already guaranteed from the club won't continue signing free agents. We have no agreement with any club, no club has pushed us to do anything. The problem is not economic, it's a matter of form. We could no longer accept certain threats, certain tensions, psychological stress, the passivity of the club towards Gigio. Mirabelli? I am talking about Milan but Mirabelli is an exponent who did this and then he takes his own responsibility. I have nothing against Milan, relations with Fassone are great and if we have to talk we will do. However, Milan have now made their decision. We had to decide on June 13 and we have decided. If Donnarumma risks losing a year of his career? Yes it's a big risk. For me it's mobbing if you threaten a player to stay for a year in the stands. Milan looking for a new goalkeeper? They have the right to look for other seven goalkeepers too, it's not our problem."

Raiola: "Donnarumma was willing to renew with Milan. They forced us to not renew, at a certain point Gigio told me 'Sincerely Mino I do not feel like negotiating or accepting a proposal in this environment, seeing what's happening to my family and me'. Between me and Mirabelli there was no feeling, we are on totally different waves. His attitude as a director is unacceptable."

Fassone to Corriere della Sera: "Milan did enough to protect Gigio? As a club we don't know what more we could've done to transfer to Gigio and his family our desire and pleasure that he would stay with us. We transmitted this every time we spoke with him, I can say more. There were no threats. Our position is clear: Donnarumma for club ownership is not for sale, so he will be at Milan next season. Coach Montella will decide week after week, but for me Donnarumma could play all games. However, we cannot risk anything, we have to look for a new goalkeeper. We cannot stay with a player with an expiring contract, who maybe thinks of Real Madrid, in such a delicate position. I must make sure that we have a ready, calm goalkeeper in good psychological conditions. San Siro protest against Gigio would take off his serenity. From what Raiola says it seems that the boy is very anxious. Nobody has ever questioned legitimacy of Gigio's choice. It's perfectly in rules. However, legitimacy is one thing, business ethics is another. [Gigio's decision] could've been done without damaging the club. As a result, the decision caused Milan €100m damage. If Donnarumma is worth that much at 18 it's also thanks to this club. It would've been enough if Donnarumma had said he did not want to stay, we would've renewed him with a reasonable clause. Now Real Madrid won't pay us & the money will go into his agent's pocket. I would've reinvested this money in Italian football."

Fassone: "Couldn't we have waited? No, Gigio's contract was expiring. I have to be able to intervene on time in the mercato. If Donnarumma had told me in mid-August that he doesn't want to renew what would I have done? Raiola blames Mirabelli? There is no Mirabelli and Fassone, there is a single club, Milan. Every move, every proposal, every phone call has been agreed, so that no one can create issues between us [Fassone & Mirabelli]. Raiola says that Gigio changed his mind 15 days ago? Never, every time we spoke with him he always repeated that he wants to stay, until two days before the meeting with Raiola. Raiola, however, had always told us that he wasn't available to negotiate in times we planned to. In case Donnarumma reconsiders his decision, he'd not only be welcomed by Milan, but in the end, I also believe, by Milan fans."

So, I think that it is very low what both parties did to handle this situation. While I have 0 respect and trust in Raiola there are things that even Fassone is not denying such as demanding a positive response at a certain date, threting to leave Dolla on the stands and threating to get new keeper (even id denies the last 2, we read credible reports saying that threats existed).

I think that Dolla wanted to sign, but has an agent who is Raiola and always wants that little more than his client and himself deserves. Raiola wanted to be sure we would have a team competitive enough, wanted high wages for Dolla and himself, wanted ridiculous clause and wanted to get treated like a God by our management. He would have gotten that from former management, not by this one. Also it is quite obvious that Raiolas problem is Mirabelli, maybe about a deal in the past, but propably about the way he handles things. While we love the fact how Mirabelli strongarms other deals and make that happen - it's already a thing in internet, I don't think he should do the same with our players. Even though I believe he has the clubs best interest at heart.

While I doubt that Mirabelli operated without Fassones knowledge, it is interesting that Raiola describes the relationship with Fassone as "great" while Fassone also leaves the door open for repentance.

Proof that Mirabelli is softing up:

Mirabelli: "Donnarumma? To date he is a Milan player and a champion. If he will be a starter? Coach decides. I will go to Poland to watch the game."
Mirabelli: "Donnarumma will definitely play in Milan. Coach decides for all the players, things like stands or bench don't exist."

As for the management I think they have the clubs best interest at heart. They won't treat anyone like God and they won't get strongarmed. I too believe - and we know that from many statements, that Raiola always threated the club by doubting our project and leaving Dollas departure as possible, causing the management to be cautious and wanting an early response and that response to be as we wish. Afterall they treated this like pure business and in business transactions sometimes you have to strongarm and bluff.

For the end, I think that, after both parties statements, there is a possibility that Dolla renews providing that it is provided by Fassone and not Mirabelli, where both parties would have to sacrifice something. We adding a clause and looking unprofessional (Mirabellis fault for being a man who wants deals to end fast) and Dolla looking like a spineless creature - which he is and also risking to get lower wages.

If Dolla renews I would place 50% of the fault from all this saga to Raiola, 25% to Dolla and 25% to Mirabelli, cos that would mean that we accept that Mirabelli didn't handle these talks in the best way possible. If Dolla doesn't renew, I place 100% of the blame to him for letting his agent make his calls and being an ungrateful snake - pretty much the position we have towards him.

As a fan, if it is proven that the above things happened, I would be ready to forgive Dolla, but never love him like I did and I would demand responsibility from the management - since they would have to be aware of Mirabellis way of operation.

I think Montella will be the key in this situation, by playing Dolla even risking that we loose him for nothing next year, and somewhere in the road, probably at October or November we would enter talks and sign a new deal. All this, if parties don't cool down now, admit their faults and sign new deal now or depart for good.

P.S. I forgot to mention an important element in Raiolas statement, which is that he places all the responsibility for the negative decision at himself and not Dolla, thus meaning that he is not closing the door. If this would come straight from Dolla and he wouldn't be willing to renew, there wouldn't be a need for all the things that happened to happen.

The victims of these bluffs and wordwars are firstly the fans (who in the end will forgive the management since they will sign big names and will forgive Dolla cos the fault will be ticketed to Raiola and Mirabelli) and Perin (who in the end might not come since there is a good chance Dolla putts his signature in the new contract).

You might think that I am reading way too much into this situation, but I am very convinced things are the way I described.

(Sorry for the spelling errors, I'm writing from my phone and I don't enable its autocorrect)

I would not put a lot of faith in Dolla coming back at this point. Also, I don't see any real offers coming in (Real, PSG, and Juve all have different GKs in mind). Teams that may be interested in Dolla are in no hurry, and probably don't really care if he plays next year or not. And from Milan's perspective, if we get a new keeper we better be playing him and not Dolla.

While Fasso and Mira are clearly keeping the door partially open, I believe Fasso was also setting the stage for not playing Dolla. A club cannot keep a player out of the lineup simply because he refuses to sign a renewal (that's what the Pandev-Lazio situation was about, and the courts allowed Pandev to transfer to Inter before his contract terminated because Lazio refused to let him play). However, if the player has emotional problems (which is what Raiola just publicly stated), well, than that's a different matter. Why would anyone play a goalkeeper that told the world (through his agent) that he is real unhappy about how his club has treated him and is afraid of the fans? GK is a very delicate role, you really need someone who is mentally solid and 100% committed to the team. So my interpretation of what Fasso said is something to the effect of "if we don't play Dolla, it's because of his emotional state".
