I know, it's crazy. All Basel players left the area at the moment of the kick, something I've never seen before. But the frigging linesman allowed it anyway. Should be banned for life. Tool.

Just realised that with everyone else out we'll get Italy's share of the CL money this season from the knock outs. Last season us and Juve were the biggest earners in the competition because there were only 2 team in the KOs, so even if we'll go out in the next round, that 0-0 draw against Ajax will be a gold mine for us, hopefully it will tide us over since we won't be getting a piece of that pie next season

But don't Juve and Napoli still get money from the Europa League? I read they do.

PSG as well.

Meh, I think they're middle ground for me, I think Bayern, Real and Dortmund are much more daunting prospects.

But that's a separate pool of money, has nothing to do with the CL money which will be entitled to the participating clubs, they already secured some of that share through the group stages but the majority is earned in the KOs, that's why we got something around 50m last season for simply playing the groups and 1 KO round, while Juve got 60m for the groups and 2 KO rounds. Juve were the highest earning, even more than Bayern simply because there were only 2 Italian teams in the competition.

Yes they'll get money from the EL, but it's a very meagre amount, Chelsea got something like 10m from last season and they won the thing

Indeed, EL is financially worthless to all but the winners, and even then they only get the same as every group participant of the CL gets by default.

And yes, EL cash is separate to CL cash - and you're spot on - we get all the Italian TV cash for last 16.

Can't figure out if the total is higher or lower than last year given last year 2 Italian teams got through.

I'd take any of the English sides tbh

Bayern, Real and Dortmund would be the absolute worst of the worst.

I don't think Dortumund would be that bad to be honest. Right now they're in trouble.

Indeed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) That's what came to mind when I read Han's post.

Personally, I consider PSG the toughest opponent to get after Bayern. The potential they have upfront is out of this world, and they've shown in these last few months that they are an opponent to be feared.

I see. I read today that if Juve manage to win the EL, they'll earn a total of €43 million, €20 million less than last season when they got to the QF in the CL. So far they've earned only €11 million from the participating in the CL group stages.

I don't know where the 43m comes from though considering they'll only be earning 11m from the CL. Winning the EL only give you about 1/3 of the other 30m or so from that 43m amount

It was written by Mediaset. By their logic, Juve should earn €32 million from winning the EL. Don't know how, don't why.

Doesn't make any sense, from the numbers UEFA themselves posted of how last season's money was spread out, Chelsea got 10m for winning the thing. If winning the EL was that lucrative Clubs would give it far more importance than they currently do now. One of the major reasons why Clubs look down their noses at the EL is because it's simply not a lucrative competition, but is arguably as (if not more) physically challenging on a team as the CL

Maybe the fact that the final will be played at Juventus Stadium has something to do with it? Anyway, €10 million is too small an amount, even for EL standards. Are you sure those reports were correct? I mean, Juve got €11 million just from participating in the CL group stages. Makes no sense how winning the EL would profit a club less.
