What's with the minute-by-minute updates anyway? I didn't know we were soooo enthusiastic about Ibra...

Enough people are... I didn't mind a loan.. but now we are going to sign someone who is 28y, almost 29y, ... we will use 40 millions to buy him... millions I thought we didn't have... we will use also a fortune for his wages... possible even after his prime.... at least with a loan, it was just 1 season which was clearly in his prime, no crazy transfer fee also for someone his age.....

With that amount of money... we could have done something better.... long term it's stupid... the pressure on preforming short term has been increased immense... but I still see weaknesses in our squad so it's concerning...

Ibra gets 'super golden handshake'

Barcelona striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will get a super golden handshake if he leaves the Catalan giants for Milan.

Sport Mediaset understand that Adriano Galliani and Ibrahmovic's agent Mino Raiola held talks with Barcelona at the King Juan Carlos hotel to discuss his transfer.

Raiola was their to discuss the legal ramifications of Ibrahimovic's exits, such as his exit bonus and image rights.

It's believed that Milan have agreed a deal in principle to sign the Swede for €40m to be paid in three installments.

When asked about the golden handshake, Raiola said: “Let's not call it that. Let's call it a super golden handshake.”

Sources close to Milan claim Ibrahimovic could fly to Italy tomorrow to tie up the deal

I can't believe how incredibly picky and whiny you people are. It's either Milan with Ibra or Milan without Ibra (and with Huntelaar), and you'd be foolish to accept the latter scenario. Ibra might have a stinking attitude, his agent might be a rotten b@stard, but what matters is that he DELIVERS on the pitch. Calling him a Barça reject is insanely narrow-minded. The guy has proved himself in the Serie A more than anyone else.

You know it, I would have preferred Dzeko over Ibra any day, but as things stand right now, I'd rather sign Ibra than not sing anyone at all.

Guys, gals, fish and penguins, please think about the money situation, even if you don't like the player. It's not that bad at all when you look at the big picture.

Worst case scenario, as mentioned just above, he leaves after 2 years. So we paid 15, 15, and 10 for him. The first 15 is paid for immediately by Huntelaar. Then say he loses a few steps by age 31, and we transfer him out for 10. We'd then have spent just 15m on this transfer, next year, after dumping a bunch of old contracts. It's really not inconsistent with the "don't spend big" philosophy.

Personally i am still not sure about Ibra, his attitude and what not, but serv is making quite a bit of sense here.

For a club that's broke that's a lot of money and you're basing this on a lot of what ifs. You're also not taking into consideration the huge wage he's demanding, something we supposedly couldn't afford a couple years back and had to sell Kaka for it.

This move stinks of Silvio interfering without any care as to what would be best for the team, he only wants the show pony he can watch on derby days and big CL nights. And getting the recognition for signing a big name

I'd rather not sell out than buy a walking attitude problem with an agent who's a complete barstid. Woudl actually prefer to see the team suffer than see Ibrahimovic in a Milan jersey. The club used to stand for something. Even if that's mostly a thing of the past it'd be nice to maintain a small semblance of class.

Nobody denies Ibra's world class TALENT.
However try to put down your controller for a second to realize that sometimes a player's congruence with a squad is often far more significant. Do you think Inzaghi ever had a fraction of Rivaldo skill? The only difference is that Pippo was for us what we needed, a hungry selfish gritty determined striker who was great at POSITIONING. This is a trait neither K.hunt or Borri are particularly good at. Ibra would compound this issue somewhat and I say somewhat because as you indeed assert Milan+Ibra>>>Milan without him. Nevertheless the fact remains that Ibra plays in roughly that part of the final third that Seedorf, Ron and Pirlo would be in and other than Pato making the off the ball runs which clears up the congestion in midfield who else is going to do it. We're not getting Torres and Dzeko and ANYBODY who watches Ibra knows that he's simply not this TYPE of player It could get ugly. That said, there is a lot of fear and apprehension given the penny pinching stance that management took over the years.

From the minute I saw Ronaldinho coming to Milan I knew it would be the end of my hero Kaka. And regardless of the semantics, injury excuses (which Milan, formerly famous for its medical facilities that fixed up Robben of all people, suddenly became wildly inept at taking care of) and crocodile tears of his salary to anyone perceptive enough it was clear. Ronaldinho was Kaka's replacement. Knowing fully well what a monster Pato can become am I to suddenly hope for the best that B actually cares about the football side of Milan and Pato would remain here for the next decade as we sweep aside all in our path? Or am I to think that once Pato's valuation reaches maturity he'll be on the first thing on its way to Madrid/Manchester. Then we would be called "ungrateful" for all the champions and successes that our Benevolent owner has bought us. Make no mistake Berlu is a genius and a master politician and he knows precisely how fickle and easily persuaded the fans are. On the R&B forum I see page long posts of praise for both B&G from the ppl who insulted them in the most vile of manners. But the truth is they are all controlled by the management.

Seriously if THERE is indeed 40M going somewhere it's going to RETURN to Berlu with interest one way or the other. I recognise this and assert that instead of placing it all on one player it could be used to generate economic rewards via footballing success, the CL SerieA etc by investing in the playerS we need. Either way B&G will triumph. Buying I'mahomobitch will unleash the minions of gloryhunters in their multitude to buy his jerseys and other merchandise all year round. The failing ticket sales will suddenly improve and if we don't win titles this year, they will have no qualms about selling Pato/Silva while the retards will continue to buy their red and black outfits with camel poop smeared all over it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Don't believe me? Look at the reaction to the sales of Gourcuff, and the fans' reaction to the potential sale of Flamini. Sadly we used to be the club that fostered success and LEGENDARY Players like MVB, $heva, Maldini etc...but it seems that we are fast becoming a slightly more classy Arsenal/Ajax where we feed the bigboys. Again I could be wrong and just an overly pessimistic party pooper but thus far the evidence seems to point in this direction

Right, I am not speaking in favor or against his attitude or even his impact on the club results-wise. I understand that is quite debatable, and I am not informed enough to side with either side of that argument.

But financially I don't think it is a debate. As far as wages, if these reports are accurate, it's effectively 5m/yr since Huntelaar's 3 is gone. So again in that worst case deal of 2 years of service, we spend 10m in wages extra. At least part of that will be made up for with increased revenue from tickets, jerseys, and if the team gets advancement income as a result. Hopefully more money is freed up next season, although I guess I really shouldn't count that because that money could be freed up regardless of what happens with this deal, but it is money that will be available that isn't now.

Thinking about our short term I'd be happy with Zlatan, but the lack of long term thinking simply worries me. I'm afraid for what will happen in future. These days we are selling half the rights of our prospects so we can sign cheap reinforcements. We are low on cash. How will our future look like with this Zlatan transfer costing a fortune? It concerns me. We are spreading the 40 mio in 3 steps. Says enough. We need to earn that money by selling players in future.

God, why isn't Berlusconi into Dzeko?? Why does Milan start looking like a bunch of past stars? Is this some kind of a retro joke?

And most of all - do you people think Ibrahimovic will be motivated enough here in Milan?

They said this for Ronaldinho too.

I've said it over and over again. Look at Ibra's transfer thread or it was in some news thread. I've always wanted him not becouse I'm obsessed with him, it's just he is the BEST option there.

btw to all of you, it's Berlusconi's club and money, you know that there's nothing we can do. I'm not OK when we sell someone we need, but when we do good busines (kaka's transfer), I support menagment.

Berlusconi promised a CHAMPION !
Huntelaar is leaving to make space for Ibrahimovic, we don't have to worry. Even Galliani said that there will be no-one else leaving.

I totally agree. If we had strengthened other areas of the team rather than waste it on some egotistical trick pony then I would have been far more happier. What happened to "we have no money" and "we have a wage cap and are sticking to it"? I'm sure the players who took a wage cut are really happy now!

This deal was just to satisfy Silvio's ego nothing more nothing less.

Investing all that money in 3-4 quality players would have been wise, I agree, but we all know the type of person Berlusca is, so we can forget about it. Regarding the money itself, servbot made a very good point which you all seem to have ignored.

QUOTE (servbot @ Aug 27 2010, 04:31 PM) *
I think a big thing a lot of us are overlooking in the price tag is that the 40m is being split up over 3 years. Regardless of Berlu's funding, this is still only a 15m transfer this year. The other 25m will be paid in the next 2 seasons, in which a lot of these bad older contracts will be finished with. The 15m from this year is made up from the sale of Huntelaar, and essentially, we have still complied with a transfer budget of $0. The only extra is the extra wages, which may be made up for by CL advancement, ticket sales, etc. It actually seems like a pretty genius move, provided they don't screw up the budget later on.
