Perhaps we are saving out money for something else.

For contract extensions.

You were there when they negotiated? I doubt this to be true, mainly because a) Zigoni could flop no problem b ) Boateng could flop, no problem c) They could have done that transfer this year d) With the loss of a number of players due to contracts ending, we could easily purchase Boateng for 10m if we deem him worthy e)Zigoni could absolutely kill it and we bring him back.

Unless he completely bombs, we'll probably grab him for 8-10m in a years time. Depending on Zigoni/Strasser/Oduamandi's performances they could be put into the deal but a guarantee is a bit of a stretch.

Your still a newbie to how the soccer market works. You'll see for yourself come next spring.

Also let me give you a consensus on how youth players are evaluted.

By the time they are 14 years old; most clubs can predict with about 90% accuracy on what division level of a player he will become.

And thats most clubs. We are one of the most elite clubs in the world with a super scouting system. The majority of our youth products all player serie A with decent teams. Rarely are the players we bring out serie B calibre.

I've said it before and i'll say it again.

Zigoni
Berretta
Albertazzi
Pilbrik
Donnaruma
oudamadi
verdi
de vito
romanogli
ikande harmony
merkel
novinic

(some others i'm missing)

from our own youth team are all high calibre players. Furthermore, the 8-10 players we have purchased this summer in the youth department puts our youth development system easily in the top 10 in europe, where before we'd be lucky if we were in top 20.

Now more than 70% of our primavera are quality players and that is why teams like genoa/parma etc etc are willing to become buddy buddy with us because its a business for them.

-------------

Spending 6m for a club like genoa is no big deal if they are getting a player like Zigoni out of it in the end. Why?

Zigoni is worth 2-3 M right now. If he has one good season, you'll see juventus come around and splash 15-20m on him.

Thats why they are willing to do something as stupid as buy a player and loan him to us because in the end if we do decide to purchase him outright, they will ask for zigoni in exchange and that right there has merit in it.

If zigoni does good and we want him back; thats fine. They'll take oudamadi or strasser instead or someone else in our youth system; it doesn't matter.

Quality youth is an important factor of business for these small clubs. Sign youth when they are young and cheap; play them and sell them at double or triple the price. Repeat.

Its how they are able to function.

---

so the bottom line is while we can give them 10m cash for boateng; they'd much rather have something like 6m and zigoni instead.

I truly believe that we will splash cash next season when some of our older players with high wages will leave. It's not hard to imagine that Galliani and co. have a program. It was obvious a few years ago that we have to do some kind of revolution or we would end up with an almost dead team. So they made a decision like in 3 years we save, then we splash. It's a process and Galliani is a good manager (say whatever you want about him). For now, let's just be happy with what we have, and it's not that bad. however if we sign Ibra, we will do big things.

Its possible but I personally dont' see it happening and here's why:

Out of contract next season:

inzaghi
ambrosini
pirlo
ronaldinho
seedorf
nesta
Boateng (loan end)
Amelia (loan end)
Kaladze
Janku

As of right now I can't even predict who will get an extention as its too early to say. Furthermore, we don't know if the mgmt will buy the players on loan.

But thats 10 players who could potentially leave our squad next season. I don't see us replacing them all with quality players. We will most likely promote youth players to take some of their spots and we will spend money buying replacements.

We''ll end up spending maybe 50 million. 20m on youth and 30m on the first team; but thats all i can see us spending without any sales.

--------

But you never know. I hope we splash the cash, I really do.

Yeah, he would really open things up and it would seriously help Pato and perhaps even energize Ronaldinho.

I doubt it. If anything, an explosive pain in the *** like Ibra would put a dent in their egos more than anything.

Personally, I think Boateng is a good addition to the team. He is young, strong and pacy as well. I hope he does well for the team, and Milan should buy him at the end of season.

Well, what you predict is good enough for me!

We don't need to replace them all with quality players. Between those, I only see Pirlo, Nesta and maybe Ronaldinho get an extension. And let's also think those 2 loans get permanent. Now with that 50 million we can bring in pretty good replacements.

It's a revolution after all, you can't get back on top in a night! It takes time, or we end up like Real Madrid. Spending millions year after year with no success. Your choice.

good point fillipo. All I can say is that after studying the transfer market starting from 1990 in my courses, I've seen trends that have been followed over and over again.

But your right, Its wrong of me to use words like garuantee regarding statements based on pure speculation.

My apologies Dracoris (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif)

I really don't like the fact we are still co-owning our prospects. Paloschi, Strasser, Odu, Zigoni, Romagnoli... it will cost us money to get them back. Very unneeded to waste money that way, or lose one or more prospects that way.

exactly, spot on.

But its a proven system that works when you are lacking funds.

Look at it this way. If we decide to sell our half of each of them for around 3-5m, we could potentially end up with 12-20m, which in result could be a high quality player, which we could use instead of youth that wont' even see the field.

But if any of these youth prove to be top quality; well than we end up biting ourself in the end and overpaying on them, like we did for borriello.

Sold him to genoa for 6m and bought him after a season for 10m.

But we did it with players who are obvious prospects, too big prospects IMO to co-own. Players I don't wanna see leave. I'm sure we either make a loss this way, or lose players who we should not lose. I know we do it because we want to grab every chance to earn a nickle, but we will make things only worse in future this way.

Co-owning someone from who you almost know will be worth more in near future is idiotic.

spot on again. Its a proven system that works as long as you no longer want the prospects back. As soon as you decide you want them to wear your jersey again, the system fails.

Imo in regards to why we co-owned those three was to drop sokratis' price. He would have easily costed 15m if we had bought him for cash; but we played to genoa's liking and they gave us a good price.

4.5 plus half of 3 kids for a solid future wc defender. Not bad imo on galliani's part here.

I know we signed Sokratis cheaper this way, which I mind less than let's say co-owning Paloschi, because indeed we got a very good central back now. Still it's a shame this is how we get our funds for signings, while at the same time we extend Inzaghi's and Gattuso's contracts, (gross) it cost together 12 mio to keep them for just this season. While I rate players like Paloschi and Strasser higher than them, who should play instead of them, develop and adapt to our team. I like the odds them being good players for us. But both are co-owned, and one doesn't even play here. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
