Having seen Antonini playing at RB...I can say he's better off in the left. And currently a LB position isn't a liability for us.

RB most definitely is.

Antonini has barely played on the right side, you can't judge him from few games/minutes he's played. We need a LB, and our board seems to have realized it.

I'm just happy they're going for a position we actually do need. Such a refreshing change.

Antonini played a fare share of games last season at RB under Carlo, and it's just not something I'd like to see him being reverted to again. Not to mention the great chemistry he has with Ronnie, all I and Jack are saying is why mess with a good thing when the right side of defence is a far more problematic area for us?

We only have Zambro for the right, Abate, Oddo and Bonera don't count, Abate is a midfielder we should either play him in his natural position or sell him to a club who will actually use him properly, Oddo is finished and Bonera is a CB. Complaining about Zambro while being ok with Bonera to me is ridiculous, as they basically provide the same thing, solid defensively, terrible going forward

So, according to you, Antonini would turn from a great fullback to a pathetic one just by switching sides? Oh please, you can be certain that he'll perform much better on the right side. And besides, he did play crap in those games under Carlo, but not just on the right side. Even when he played on the left, he still sucked. He just wasn't ready yet then.

Like I mentioned before, we have no left-footed fullbacks, and that's more than an enough reason to sign one.

I'm basing my theory on what I saw of Antonini playing on the right, and I don't recall Carlo playing him on the left, at least not for an extended period of time like he did when he was playing Antonini on the right.

So we get a left footed LB so we only have Zambro on the right and on the left we have potentially 3 options for one position. It just doesn't make any sense. Same goes for your insistance of moving an Antonini who is great on the left to what could potentially be a mediocre Antonini on the right.

And he was ready, the reason he was brought back from the loan spells was because he was putting in the performance while playing, guess... Yes on the left while at Empoli.

Yup pretty much what han said. Coz if we actually do what X- says and gets a LB...and then Antonini proceeds to suck at RB...we're doomed. While if we do get a good RB...we're actually strengthening our weak right flank, without weakening our left.

guys, at the risk of sounding like a moron, the more i think about it, we arn't that bad off! No we won't be competing for the scudetto in the next 1-2 years, but we are really not that S.O.L. With so many younger players ready to take control of this squad we need a year of evaluating them in serie A.

GKs

Storari ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A96ZnLebMbk ): proved to be considered for top GK in serie A last year with magnificent performances. he has cat-like reflexes that seemingly haven't diminished with age.

Abbiati : considering his experience he would be a great #2. A very solid option.

Roma: ....*facepalm*

Terzino :

Antonini : should have LB position on LOCK. needs a bit of defensive refining but was still solid in that departement, created alot more chances then he gave away.

Abate : hate him or love him a homegrown italian 23 yo speed bullet with good crosses is a good prospect. There is a reason Roma/palermo were interested in him. he can develop into a very good RB. Is he milan class now? no, is he a world beater? no, but neither is Pedro in barca but in a system that suits him, he is very productive. as can be Abate if he is allowed to dart upfield more... more to come

And how are you so sure he will suck if switched to the right? Because he played some downbeat games two years ago? Come on, that's hardly an excuse. I'm merely stating that he will perform the same, whether he plays on the right or the left won't downgrade his skills. Saying he'll perform poorly just by switching sides, for a right-footed player nonetheless, is rather silly.

You yourself stated R80 can not play anywhere other than on the left. He's a right footed player btw.

That's hardly a comparison. Ronaldinho likes playing on the left because the style of his playing allows him to fix in the center in order to provide through passes and shots. Most wing-forwards prefer playing on the opposite side. Messi, Robben, Ronaldo... just to name some. You can't compare them to fullbacks, who have to make the run in order to cross with their strongest foot.

I agree with the rest, and like you said, Pedro shines because he's played in a position he's comfortable playing in,
Abate simply isn't, he's not a RB and I don't think he ever will be, he's being forced into a position were every mistake he makes is multiplied, a forward can lose the ball and it's shrugged of, Abate loses the ball and it will most likely result in a goal.

I think if he's given an opportunity to play in his natural position he will shine, I'm hoping Allegri can give him that opportunity

Well the same thing would apply to your suggestion, how are you so sure that he wouldn't suck on the right? I keep saying this, but a player's strong foot does not automatically decide what side he plays on, Paolo should have thought that lesson to everyone by now.

I know what you're saying and I get it, but like I said, if we get a LB and Antonini does not adapt well to the right we're f'd. With only Zambro as an option for that position. I just don't see the logic in it.

And I personally think that Antonini's supporting play, runs forward and his chemistry with Dinho are far more valuble then some odd better cross he might put in if he's playing on the right.
