Besides Sacchi, how many top coaches can you name who were never players. It's not necessary that he must have been a top player, but I think it's very very important that he's played at some level.

QUOTE (Jack Sparrow @ Sep 21 2009, 09:52 AM) Besides Sacchi, how many top coaches can you name who were never players. It's not necessary that he must have been a top player, but I think it's very very important that he's played at some level. That was in the past. Things are changing slowly Jack. By January any coach who wants to coach a top flight Club needs a UEFA A lisence. Furthermore, they must take this exam and pass it. They can no longer do what Leo did and get a buy through. Also believe me many will fail that exam; as things are looking I'm guessing Leo would have as well Second they are developing coaching schools and programs. For example for my country, Fifa is opening a coaching program in University of Toronto and University of British columbia where you can get a degree or certifcate in coaching. They are trying to open up the market and integrate more competition for coaching because its a market that is heavily changing and there are alot of Jobs which need good qualified coaches while not enough qualified coaches exist. A lot of them highly paid as well and i'm not even talking Serie A or premiership. In Canada, if you have a basic liscence which is the UEFA C liscence you can get paid $1000 per team per month. Thats in CANADA!!!! In the united States they pay anywhere from $3-5000 per team per month. These aren't even pro teams or colleges, these are just average club teams.

There are good managers and bad managers, the percentage of bad managers is surely not bigger among the former players...

QUOTE Lyon Star Aly Cissokho: Milan Move Did Not Collapse Due To Failed Medical The defender has explained his version of events, claiming his failed move to the San Siro had nothing to do with his teeth...
Sep 21, 2009 5:27:39 PM Photo Gallery Zoom Peace Cup : Aly Cissokho (Lyon) Related Links Teams Milan O. Lyon Players Aly Cissokho Olympique Lyonnais full-back Aly Cissokho has revealed that his move to Milan fell through because of a financial dispute between the Rossoneri and Porto, and not because of a failed medical examination.
The player almost joined the Rossoneri from Porto this summer, but the transfer collapsed when the Italian giants announced the player had failed his medical because of a problem with his teeth. The former Vitoria Setubal player later joined the French outfit for €15 million.
"There were no dental problems. The two clubs contested the [financial] figures of the deal in the last minute," he suggested in an interview with UEFA's official website.
"There were problems with the payment of bonuses that saw the move fall through. I could not do anything about it. The discussions and negotiations were conducted properly in my absence."
However, the 22-year-old does not hold a grudge against the Rossoneri and has tipped them to challenge for the Champions League title.
"It's hard to know if Lyon will go far. I only say we have a united squad with talented players. To advance, we must win all our home matches," he continued with reference to his new club's chances in the Champions League.
"Other teams who are candidates for victory? Milan, they have a winning mentality."

QUOTE AC Milan Tracking Corinthians Full-Back Alisson Veloso Ricardo - Report Despite the solid performances of Ignazio Abate, Milan are still looking to sign a new player in the right-back role.
When Leonardo was appointed AC Milan's new coach, he revealed that the contribution of the full-backs would be fundamental to his playing philosophy.
However, the hesitation on the transfer market by the club's hierarchy has forced him to count on the almost discarded Massimo Oddo and to convert midfielder Ignazio Abate into that particular role.
Abate's performance in the match against Bologna was very encouraging, prompting transfer guru Adriano Galliani to name him the 'new Cafu', but the Rossoneri have not given up on their hunt to sign a full-back.
Milan are looking for a player capable of providing defensive cover as well as coming forward. According to O Globo, the club are tracking Corinthians right-back Alisson Veloso Ricardo.
The choice will probably have to be made between Ricardo and Schalke 04 star Rafinha, who has been linked with the Rossoneri for most of the summer.

QUOTE Juventus & Milan Following Bolton Defender Gary Cahill - Report The England defender has caught the eye of the Bianconeri and Rossoneri...
Sep 22, 2009 2:03:29 AM Photo Gallery Zoom EPL: Gary Cahill, Bolton Wanderers v Middlesbrough (PA) Related Links Teams Bolton Juventus Milan Players Gary Cahill According to Novantesimo.it, Juventus and Milan could once again go head-to-head for a player; this time, over Bolton defender Gary Cahill.
Cahill has been valued at €10million, but the competing clubs could place offers in excess of this in order to secure his services.
The 23-year-old has already played for the English national team, under the guidance of Italian coach Fabio Capello.
He was set to leave Bolton over the summer transfer window, even though he had signed with his team recently, after coming across from Aston Villa.
It has been noted that Milan are in search of young defenders to replace the ageing stoppers currently on their list, whilst Juventus are also wanting to improve their defence, and signed several key men at the back over the summer to help.

Nothing in him to suggest much than that he's smarter than the average bear, though EPL does tend to have inflated player prices...
I'd rather stick with Favalli and get a mid-fielder.

QUOTE (Protagonist @ Sep 20 2009, 02:48 PM) Rafinha would be great. But above all, I think we need a midfielder. A utility player if you will, someone who can run for 90 mins and ignites the team. This, considering Gattuso is already in his 30s, injury prone and past his prime.
I heard Hernanes's name affiliated with us on here before, but I would rather we go for an Italian and someone proven at that. I don't think there are many potentially world class Italian midfielders available for us to buy. I'd rather we sign Hernanes, Moutinho, etc. we can think of Italian defenders, full backs, 'keepers and perhaps attackers.
