QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Nov 8 2008, 09:15 PM) *
Ronaldo offers one thing that alot of top players don't though, consistancy. Yeah, he may not be amazing in all the big games, but he's very, very rarely bad in them either, neither is he bad against the easier teams. He finished top screr in England, the Champions League and the World, so he's doing it in all the games, big or small. In my opinion he's the been by far the best player in the World in 2008, if he doesn't win World Player of the Year it's a joke.

Players are remebered for what they do in the big games? Maybe so. But for me the CL doesn't hold much weight, it's a fixed competition so the big teams can always reach the latter stages so the 'stars' can show what they can do. It will never be as important as a league title for me, because there's no fixing, you all play the same teams and have to keep a level of consistancy for 8 straight months, not just a few games every now and then.

I don't remember denying those (I'd be happy to show me where I did that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ). all I was saying was that he'd rarely impressed me in big games and I think that's certainly the one thing he lacks to be considered a great.

Consistency is not all being a good footballer. physical condition, the team one plays in, staying away from injuries above all...

Ronaldo will have his fare share of inconsistent days someday as any other player has/will. right now everything is going well for him.

QUOTE (zdrossoneri @ Nov 8 2008, 06:49 PM) *
BUT HE IS YET TO WIN THOSE AWARDS!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

It makes no sense to me that he should stop performing his wonders because last season's performances will win the awards for him! after January it's a different story...

The awards are clearly for last season, no winner has surpassed another player based on performances in these 4 months...

Who said HE SHOULD stop performing well? Of course he shouldn't... Kaka was also far from his best last season and especially in the beginning but no one thought he would lose the award because he was the best player in 06/07.

QUOTE (zdrossoneri @ Nov 8 2008, 06:49 PM) *
Your logic sucks! I don't know what that's got to do with what I said!

You said "he will be the best player in the world for 12 months! he has to live up to that tag!". If you can't see how that is parallel with what I said it's not my problem.

QUOTE (zdrossoneri @ Nov 8 2008, 06:49 PM) *
And I said people see things this way. they judge him based on the number of his goals. they don't care the number of his assist is unimpressive for example...

I don't give a **** for those people. The Ballon d'Or winner is rarely the highest scorer.

QUOTE (zdrossoneri @ Nov 8 2008, 06:49 PM) *
All I'm saying is that as the best player in the world he is not good enough in big games and today he confirmed this.

OOH MY GOD, he is the best player in Europe for the season 2007-2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Which means, overall, 'he performed better than anyone else in 2007/2008' and NOT 'he will kick Arsenal's *** in the Emirates in order to impress zd'.

QUOTE (zdrossoneri @ Nov 8 2008, 06:49 PM) *
He is at his peak! we can't say he will become better in the future because we are not prophets! we can only talk about past and present.

He's better than he's ever has been. At his peek means he will not get better which we don't know cause as you said we're not prophets.

QUOTE (zdrossoneri @ Nov 8 2008, 06:51 PM) *
Screw you! I never said that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

I did not say you did, I said "I understand..."

I never wanted to go this far. as I said Ronaldo added another big game to his rich 'unimpressive against' career profile today (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) and I (!) expect 'the best player in the world' to be his team's saviour in these situations. you don't have to agree with me or try to argue about it. Ronaldo has scored like 7 already, and he was injured until late Sep. I mean it's not last season but it's hardly rubbish.

If he turned up for the big games and not the others he would be branded 'inconsistent' if he turns up for the little games consistently he's branded 'a little game player', the guy can't win. I forget scoring in games like the CL Final mean nothing...

I don't think he's that bad against the big teams it's just that they have a stronger defence, I mean it's not the same comparing Hull City and then Liverpool's defence.

I'd like to know who is better, I mean Messi hardly set the world on fire against United either.

Unusually honest post-match interview from Ferguson, but he still managed to claim United were more dangerous in attack.

Here's a fairly amusing article from the Sunday Mail:

http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/sport/footba...ter-United.html

The picture of C. Ronaldo therein is particularly hilarious.

it also hasnt been mentioned the numerous chances he created for his teammates, including rooney who missed a sitter.

Last season Ronaldo was a little greedy, I think he only had 2 or 3 assists, but who can blame him for not passing if everything you do results in a goal?

Oh please. He had around 250 shots on goal, he had to score some of them.

Unfortunately, this is something people don't seem to understand. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) He had 9 goals in 50 appearances in the 2005 season. The talent was still there, but what this means is that both him and Manchester United have found the best place to use it.

Adebayor can't be compared, Ash. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) He had 230.

Adabayor didn't have nearly as many.

Anyway, Arsenal 3-0 Wigan with 15 minutes to go, Simpson scored a brace and Vela scored a beauty.
