I think Schiaffino was highly regarded among Milan fans.

Yup. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) But only to those who knew him, or Milan's history. New fans, or people who've just started seeing Milan in the last couple of decades, unh, unh.

Edit: Plus, Schiaffino was a Uruguayan-Italian so that has to count, along with the fact that he was a good forward.

QUOTE (dst @ Jul 30 2008, 10:33 PM) *
You are kidding right? Who would give up any of their regulars for an untested (in Serie A) 19 year old? You don't really expect Viudez to get more than a couple of chances if any at all, right?

He is a normal prodigy our scouts suggested we should buy... anything else would be weird to me.

Why is that so difficult? Wouldn't you have given up Kaladze+cash for Pato, supposing say Liverpool buy him as a favour to us.

OK...Pato is a bad example, but for a club of the level of say Cagliari, I would suppose Viudez is the closest they could afford to Pato. And maybe he's not making as much noise as Pato, but c'mon he's from Uruguay and Hamsik and Lavezzi didn't make a lot of noise till they came into Napoli either.

Of course, it's just a theory, you could be completely right too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Yeah... that's what I thought. Judging a player on what you've seen on DVD's is not really smart... next thing we'll be buying off of YouTube!
But truly, I don't believe in this, they're just waiting for his approval, they must have gone there to scout on him...

When it comes to South Americans, unless Leonardo's involved, I don't see them having too much of a future in Milan.

Italian page of ESPN says we signed both Mathias Cardaccio and Tabare' Viudez

IMPORTANT TESTS

Before stepping on the plane for Moscow, Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti talked about the 'Moscow Tournament', on the goalkeepers, and the situation of the injured players. - THE DECLARATIONS -

MILAN - Here are the declarations made by coach Carlo Ancelotti at the Malpensa airport before departing for Moscow:

ON THE MOSCOW TOURNAMENT
"Now we go to play these two games hoping to do well. They are important tests and we will certainly meet two strong teams."

ON THE NEXT LEAGUE
"I think the next league season will be much more balanced compared to last year because all the teams have done good things on the transfer market and the quality has definitely improved."

MARKET MOVES
"Paloschi is staying because he is the only striker we have available along with Kaká so he will play these two matches. The Uruguayans, meanwhile, will train with us. Cardacio is a national team player. Viudez, meanwhile, is an '89 player, he's a bit younger. They will train with us and then we will see in twenty days if he will train with the Primavera or if he'll stay with us."

ON THE GOALKEEPERS
"The competition? It has to help everyone, not only Seedorf. Also between the keepers, it's not necessary that it's the same one the whole year. There can be some drops in form, but I don't think the turn-over makes much sense, even though right now Abbiati is not advantaged over Kalac."

INJURIES SITUATION
"Borriello has a problem which he will solve quickly. So we have to wait for him. Sheva meanwhile will play his season at Chelsea. Nesta still has to rest. Maldini, meanwhile, is fine."

This is from a goal.com article about the two new/potential(!?) signings

QUOTE
Ancelotti has also confirmed that new Uruguayan recruits Tabare Viudez and Mathias Cardaccio will train with the team. The former is a 19-year-old midfielder who has arrived from Nacional Montevideo. The latter, also a midfielder, is expected to soon complete his transfer from Defensor Sporting.

"The Uruguayans will train with us,” said Carletto.

“Cardacio is a national team player. Viudez, meanwhile, is an '89 player, he's a bit younger.

“They will train with us and then we will see in twenty days if he will train with the Primavera or if he'll stay with us."
