Milan’s Carlo Ancelotti was the best Coach in the world in 2007, according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.

The football statisticians have already named Juventus’ Gigi Buffon as the top goalkeeper and rated each tactician through numerical analysis.

Champions League and Club World Cup winner Ancelotti finished a distance ahead of second-placed Sir Alex Ferguson with Inter’s Roberto Mancini languishing in eighth.

England manager Fabio Capello was rated 11th, despite delivering the La Liga title for Real Madrid and Roma’s Luciano Spalletti finished in 15th.

The top 10 in full:

1. Carlo Ancelotti (Milan)
2. Alex Ferguson (Manchester United)
3. Juande Ramos (Tottenham Hotspur)
4. Arsene Wenger (Arsenal)
5. Jose Mourinho (Without a club)
6. Rafael Benitez (Liverpool)
7. Frank Rijkaard (Barcelona)
8. Roberto Mancini (Inter)
9. Miguel Angelo Russo (Boca Juniors)
10. Gustavo Alfaro (Arsenal di Sarandi)

These IFFHS lists are ridiculous... how can you statistically come up with who is the best?

To me, he is #1 ... I don't need stats or anything. No manager, currently running has his record at the moment!

Is he a great manager, or does he just have great players? I'm going to call the latter.

Like you've said, Chelsea had great players before Mourinho too yet they did not win anything... so it's not just a matter of great players. Even if it was, I don't think anyone would have done much better in Carletto's place.

But he was certainly not the best coach in 2007. SAF was.

He is still one of the best coaches in the world. Shame he can't make transfers. That would be great (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

He is the greatest coach of EUROPEAN competitions this season and really over the last several years overall. But when you analyze this you see that we throw all our weight in this direction. By the semi's of the champions league a team like Manchester United is in the top spot playing their top players in league games and in Champions League games. With Milan we sit our top players, perform terribly in Serie A, and save our strength for Champions League.

However.....

As far as ITALIAN SERIE A goes we are competing right now to get in the top four of the league, we have 1 real home win. Its been like this for the past couple seasons. We see a decline in the quality of play. I would conclude that based on the amount of money and talent that Milan has in their grasp compared to other teams, he is the worst coach of Serie A right now.

(Sticking this here for lack of a better spot to put it.)

Marco Van Basten paid a visit to Milanello today. There's a whole bunch of stuff about it on acmilan.com's Italian page (yet to be translated to English. I'm sure they'll get around to it). He was interviewed too. link

Not sure if this is anything other than a visit to old friends, but there's sure a lot about it on the website.
