Mundo Deportivo, a sports daily in Barcelona, has awarded their annual 'Fair Play Award' to AC Milan.

Milan was given the award 'for their exemplary comportment on the night of the Supercup against Sevilla'. The article points out the fact that Puerta's name was on the back of the Milan jerseys, Kaka pointing to Puerta's name on his jersey after he'd scored the goal, and Seedorf doing the same thing when he was substituted.

Juan Antonio Samaranch, head of the jury and former president of the International Olympic Committee, will present the award in Barcelona on January 25 to a Milan delegation including Leonardo, Braida, Galliani, and one yet-to-be named player representing the squad.

Classy gestures like what Milan did at the Supercup really set the team apart. I'm very happy that they were recognized. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/king.gif)

I find most of your posts interesting and thought provoking - this wasn't one of them. (Mike)

What Milan did that night can't be easily forgotten.

They showed the utmost respect for Puerta and Sevilla.

Just a little postscript on this. On the hourlong 'Milan Weekly' this week, they showed a bit from the award ceremony. Galliani thanked them for the award and then went on to say that Milan would do what it could to help provide for the upbringing of Puerta's son.

There was a brief news snippet on tuttomercatoweb today indicating that Milan are going to open up a fund and host friendlies (the gate receipts from these presumably going to the fund) for little Aitor Puerta.

Well done.
