Ronaldo: I'll Be Back Nine Months

El Fenomeno ruptured the tendon in his knee during last week’s match with Livorno, and was forced to undergo surgery.

The striker has been told by doctors that he will be out of action for at least nine-to-twelve months, although many people believe he will be lucky if he ever plays again.

Ronaldo seems very determined to make a quicksilver recovery and is reported to have told ex-Real Madrid team-mate Julio Baptista that he is hoping to take to the field within nine months.

"I want to return to the field quickly,”(IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cry.gif) (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cry.gif) said Ronaldo.

“I can do it before the nine months predicted by the doctors."

If this proved to be the case, then there is the possibility of seeing the 31-year-old in action before the end of the 2008 calendar year.

However experts believe that a more realistic comeback date will be at the beginning of the 2009/10 season.

I do believe Ronaldo will do a Pippo. This one year break will do a world of good, when he comes back, he won't have the weight of being our only hope on his shoulders, since we will have most definitely signed another striker.

We'll just have to see.

QUOTE
Determined Ronnie leaves hospital
Friday 22 February, 2008

Ronaldo has left the Pitié Salpetriere Hospital in Paris and has given the first interview since his knee reconstruction.

The Brazilian star’s career hangs in the balance after severing tendons in his knee during Milan’s game against Livorno on February 13.

While the operation in Paris was a complete success, Ronnie faces an agonising rehabilitation period of at least nine months.

“If I feel good and I don’t feel any pain, I will continue to play,” El Fenomeno insisted. “If my body is behind me, I will return to the pitch.

“To leave football would be a difficult decision. At the moment I am thinking about recovering as well as possible, but of course the injury was a very hard blow.

“I want to carry on playing and my heart is in it, but my body is giving me signs of fatigue.

“This period will be useful as it will allow me to recuperate physically and to be able to live a normal life in the future.”

Ronaldo will divide his time between Milan and Paris over the coming months as he retrains his knee and will hope the lay-off is considerably less than the 20 months it took to recover when playing for Inter in 2000.

“My motivation is the same as it was then,” he stated. “I’m hoping that this time there won’t be the delays that I experienced last time.

“The first injury was a completely new experience, but now I can stand on the shoulders of that.

“We know what to do and we know what’s best if I want to be able to return to football.

“There’s always this love for football, the passion for the sport and the desire o score goals. And that is the light at the end of the tunnel, but it won’t be easy.”

Ronaldo: I couldn't stop crying

Ronaldo confesses he’s not sure if he’ll ever play again and gives an insight into what he felt when his knee tendon snapped for the third time.

The Milan star has now left the Paris clinic where he underwent surgery to repair a snapped left knee tendon and gave a revealing interview.

“At the start I couldn’t stop crying, as there was an incredible pain,” he explained of the incident during the 1-1 draw with Livorno 10 days ago.

“I felt a very strong crack and immediately my mind raced over images I had already seen. In that moment I thought the right thing to do was give up after this had happened to me again.”

It was the third time he has severely damaged knee tendons, although in the past it had always been the right knee.

Doctors have warned Ronaldo will be out of action for a minimum of nine months and even he admits he doesn’t know if he will ever play professional football again.

“At the time I thought I’d try to recover so I could live a normal life and rest, because I have been playing for many years,” he told Sky Italia television.

“But in those moments of sadness so many things go through your mind. I was defeated, on the floor, but slowly there is the chance to come back and I will fight until the bitter end for that possibility.”

An element of doubt remains around Il Fenomeno’s chances of returning to the sport at the highest level at the age of 31.

“This isn’t the right time to think about it, because everything is still so fresh and recent. I have to focus on my recovery now, which will be very long and difficult.

“Then at the end, if I really am fit again, truly do not feel pain and have the confidence to step on to the pitch, I will certainly return to the playing field.”

And I want to be a millionnaire.

They both have the same answer: Never gonna happen.

I'm certain he'll be back, but I just can't see him being the same.

Good Lord, what have you gotten yourself into, Ronie? (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cry.gif) At what point did you ask too much?

But we all know you have it in you to come back in whatever capacity your body allows. Just one last push, Ron, one last push ... (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif)
