Sheva rules out Milan return
Monday 11 December, 2006 ::: channel4.com
Andriy Shevchenko insists that he is not considering a return to Milan. “It is just talk, talk, talk,†he stated.
The £30m Chelsea striker was linked with a sensational January return to the San Siro just six months after his summer switch to Stamford Bridge and speculation increased after Coach José Mourinho omitted his name from the list of players he considers ‘untouchable’.
“A tactician has to decide the club’s objectives for the whole season, if he decides a player has to be dropped, it has to be accepted,†said Sheva to the BBC.
“This is a team game and there are 22 players all fighting to be in the team,†added the striker, who offered yet another unimpressive performance in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
“I am staying here, all the rest is just talk, talk, talk. I never thought once about going back to Milan. I had difficult times also with the Rossoneri, but I earned my respect there.
“My role in the team is the same as it was in Milan - no different. But you need time to adapt to the style of play.
“I have no doubts that when I get into my right form, I will play and my objective is for Chelsea to win something important,†added the 2004 Golden Ball winner.
“I have 100 per cent trust in the Coach and I accept what he decides. My work here is to play well and help the team.
“If the club decides they want to bring in other players, I have no problem. Big teams have big objectives. Nobody in any of the large clubs has a clear right to play all the time.â€
Milan President Silvio Berlusconi had stated on Saturday that he would welcome the player back with open arms, although he was aware that it looked like a “difficult move.â€
