Emerson eyes Italy return

Thursday 26 October, 2006

Former Juventus midfielder Emerson would like to one day return to Italy after being linked with a Milan switch.

The Brazilian midfielder moved to Real Madrid during the summer after the Old Lady was relegated to Serie B.

But rumours now suggest he could return to the peninsula as early as January, with the Rossoneri reportedly interested in his services.

“In life you can never say never. I have many friends in Milan, including Dida and Cafu, and they tell me great things about the club and about President Silvio Berlusconi,” said Emerson.

“The only thing that is certain is that I want to look after my family,” added the former Roma star, who has finally started to shine after a struggling start at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I would be very grateful if I were to receive an offer from Milan, but now I am a Real Madrid player.

“In the future though anything could happen,” continued the midfielder, who admitted that his departure from Turin was not his choice.

“If it had been down to me I would not have left. I am happy to play for Real Madrid, but I do not want Juventus fans to consider me a traitor.

“I would have played in the lower Divisions with Juve without any problem. I spent two wonderful seasons in Turin at a club that I still consider great.

“I don’t want to talk about Calciopoli, these are only considerations on what happened to me,” added Emerson.

The holding midfielder also spoke up for his Brazilian colleague Adriano, who has endured a tough time at Inter of late.

“Adriano said that it is easier for Brazilians to play in Milan and that his main problems at Inter depend on his relationship with some of the Argentine players there.

“As for me, in Madrid I feel good. Real is like Juventus, they have prestige and a strong team, but here the pressure is even more intense.

“It is also as if the club will win trophies for their marketing skills as much as for the footballers that we have,” concluded the 31-year-old.
