Jankulovski fixes Czech out date
10.4 || webmaster

Football Italia

Marek Jankulovski plans to quit international football after the Czech Republic’s Euro 2008 adventure in order to dedicate himself to Milan.

The talented wing-back has been plagued by injury this season and has started just 10 games.

However, the 31-year-old is expected to be an important figure for the Czech Republic in Austria and Switzerland this summer – a tournament that is set to be his international swansong.

“I thought hard about the idea of quitting international football and I decided to commit myself solely to my club,” Jankulovski explained to Czech newspaper Sport.

The former Udinese man made his national debut in 2000 and has since made 62 appearances for Karel Brückner’s side.

Roberto Donadoni insists he is “satisfied” with what he has done in these two years as Italy boss ahead of the Euro 2008 test.

“I am satisfied with what has been done in these two years. I know full well what the difference is in Italy between coming first and second,” said the Coach on Sky Italia.

“I know I have done nothing but my duty with this group of extraordinary players and I am happy to have trained them. I’m convinced they’ll give me many more joyous moments from now until the end of the European Championships.”

Yet there is strong talk – fuelled by the Federation’s contract offer – that Donadoni will be axed if he does not at least reach the semi-finals.

“I am entirely honest, I never expected anything and just tried to carry on my work. Clearly the fact a contract renewal has been offered to you means there is respect and confidence in your abilities, but I have never asked for anything and I am amazed that today we are still talking about it.

“We go forward and continue to work. For me the objective is the European Championship.”

The Azzurri boss rejected the contract renewal, reportedly because it included a clause declaring it void if he failed to reach the final four in Austria and Switzerland this summer.

They are in a very difficult group with Holland, France and Romania, but Donadoni has almost decided on his squad for the tournament.

He has faced increasing pressure from all sides to call the likes of Antonio Cassano, Alessandro Del Piero and Giuseppe Rossi, but Italian football has a growing roster of talented forwards.

“I would like the media to help me in this sense, because the fact they tell me there are six strikers who are very talented is enormously pleasing, but they must also say who to leave behind,” joked the tactician.

“Marco Borriello is having an extraordinary campaign and I expect him and the others to continue. Del Piero knows my thoughts and the way I decide on my squad, as he is one of the players I have spoken to the most. He needs to continue doing well and then we’ll see.

“As for Rossi, I take into consideration all the youngsters who impress in Pierluigi Casiraghi’s Under-21 side.

“It is impossible not to love Cassano, but he knows he has an important responsibility as a professional and a great player. He also knows what he has done penalised him a great deal. That doesn’t mean he can’t get back on track, but clearly it has created problems.”

Galliani in Ronaldinho dinner
3.4 || webmaster

Football Italia

Milan are once more being linked with unsettled Barcelona star Ronaldinho after Vice-President Adriano Galliani met with the Brazilian’s agent.

The two-time FIFA World Player of the Year has completely fallen out with Barça and wasn’t even in Frank Rijkaard’s Champions League squad against Schalke.

Although he is under contract at the Nou Camp until 2010, ‘Dinho will almost certainly leave the club in the summer.

Milan President Silvio Berlusconi had been determined to lure the 28-year-old to San Siro, but seemed to have gone cold on the idea recently.

However, Galliani met Ronaldinho’s brother and agent Roberto Assis and market consultant Ernesto Bronzetti for dinner yesterday after a three-month hiatus and rumours suggest that the hunt may be back on.

It has been suggested that it would take around £12m to sign ‘Dinho and that the former PSG man would be willing to take a pay cut from his current £5m salary per year.

The fee would be a considerable reduction on the £30m quoted this time last year, but there is still the possibility Ronaldinho could use FIFA Article 17 to escape Barça.

Article 17 allows players to buy out their contract at a club as long as they are at least 28 and have spent three years at a club.

While Galliani’s meeting with Assis may have been to discuss Ronaldinho, it is equally likely that they were talking about Ricardo Oliveira, who is also a client of Assis.

The Rossoneri-owned hitman has been on loan to Real Zaragoza and has impressed with 11 La Liga goals, but the Spaniards seem unwilling to invest £10m to make the deal permanent.

please any player in Milan but not Ronaldinho I just hate him to
death beside he will not aadjust to Milan play

Schuster: Ronaldo beats Kaka
3.4 || webmaster

Football Italia

Real Madrid Coach Bernd Schuster claims that Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo is a better player than Milan ace Kaka.

Kaka secured the FIFA World Player of the Year and the Ballon d’Or award last year, but the Brazilian midfielder has come off the boil since during an injury-plagued start to 2008.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo took his tally to 36 for the season with his goal against Roma last night and is on unstoppable form.

“Ronaldo has already overtaken Kaka after the Brazilian’s slump,” Schuster insisted.

“Right now, Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world. He’s the star at Old Trafford and until they win the Champions League and another League title or two they aren’t going to let him go.

“I don’t think he could be signed at the moment, but hopefully in another couple of years he could be wearing the white shirt at the Bernabeu.”

Italy's Oddo faces knee surgery

Italy right-back Massimo Oddo will have an operation on his left knee on Wednesday but is expected to be back playing for AC Milan before the end of the season.

Procedure in Rome
The 31-year-old defender sustained the injury in the second half of Sunday's Serie A defeat by Atalanta BC, forcing him off just after the hour. Oddo underwent scans yesterday and the Rossoneri decided that surgery was the only option. The procedure will take place at the Villa Stuart Hospital in Rome. Milan, who are four points adrift of a UEFA Champions League qualifying spot in sixth, believe Oddo will return in a month, meaning he

Tissone eyes AC Milan scalp
27.3 || webmaster

Football Italia

Atalanta midfielder Fernando Tissone is hoping his side can defy the odds to do the double over Milan.

The Orobici travel to San Siro on Sunday to take on a Rossoneri outfit, who are desperate for points to aid their bid for Champions League qualification.

Atalanta seem to have little to play for with their season objective of survival as good as secure and a UEFA Cup place beyond their reach, but Milan are local rivals and Tissone is determined to repeat their unlikely 2-1 triumph in Bergamo.

“Playing against the big sides always brings strong emotions and a special motivation with it,” the Argentine ace explained.

“In the first game we played excellently and got the win, even though we were unable to enjoy it with our fans as it was behind closed doors. Now we are looking for a good result at San Siro.”

It is a demanding period for Atalanta, who must also face Inter at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia in Week 32.

“These are important games for Milan and Inter because they will influence their League position,” Tissone said.

“But for us it is as simple as continuing to give 100 per cent in every game as we always do.”

Zapata weighs up options

Udinese defender Cristian Zapata’s agent insists a host of clubs are chasing the Colombian’s signature, but he's in no rush to leave the Zebrette.

At the tender age of 21, Zapata has already played nearly 100 games for Udinese and is seen as one of Serie A’s brightest defensive prospects.

Juventus reportedly had advances rebuffed last summer, but it seems that the Old Lady is just one of a number of suitors.

It’s natural that a player with Zapata’s characteristics is appealing - it would be worrying if there weren’t any approaches,” agent Daniel Vidal told Udineseblog.it.

“Therefore it’s not a mystery that clubs like Milan, Juventus and even Roma have shown an interest. The new name perhaps is Arsenal, but English clubs usually look around a lot.”

While it is widely seen as inevitable that Zapata will leave Udine for a bigger club this summer, Vidal doesn’t think his client’s future definitely lies away from the Stadio Friuli.

“He has never thought about leaving Udine where he loves life,” he stated. “The city and the club are perfectly on his wavelength.

“I think that Udinese would also be very happy to have him stay and there have been no concrete talks.

“But it’s hard to say what will happen in March, especially with a player who was listed in The Times’ 50 most wanted in the world.”
