Massimo Oddo has confirmed that a January move to Milan is very much on the cards for the Lazio captain.

“There’s no point hiding from the fact,” he told local Lazio-based radio programme ‘La Voce della Nord.’

“There is an important offer from Milan on the table and therefore my future at Lazio is in doubt. In any case, we need to find the best solution for everyone.”

The Rossoneri have been interested in the right-back, who they see as the heir to Marcos Cafu, for several years.

Following his part in the 2006 World Cup victory, Biancocelesti patron Claudio Lotito slapped an £8m price-tag on the 30-year-old and talks stalled, but hopes of a January agreement are still high as far as he is concerned.

“Obviously, I’d like for Lazio to also be satisfied with an eventual deal, so the decision won’t just be a personal one from me.”

It’s believed Milan have offered £4m cash plus the services of talented youngster Pasquale Foggia.

Oddo started his career in the Rossoneri youth system and has been at Lazio since 2002, where he joined from Hellas Verona.

The Biancocelesti will fly out to Dubai for a winter training camp on January 5.

Very Very good news. before when were gonna sign guys they were like milan better sign me or i just might sign with sumone else or in fact they denied wanting to come to milan. not in this case and he confirms milans Bid so this is very good news, something we need. now all we need is to get a LB and a forward and possibly a midfielder. then during the summer we get another CB, new midfielders and rpobably some new forwards. In with the NEW and out with the OLD!

We already signed a LB, Grimi. And with Oddo it makes two signings since now.

AC Milan to reinforce ageing defence from transfer market

www.chinaview.cn 2007-01-04 08:18:56

ROME, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Italian AC Milan's moves to reinforce an ageing, injury-hit defence look set to be at the center of the January transfer market, which officially opens Thursday.

Milan, who are lying a lowly 12th in the Serie A, have already agreed terms with Argentine club Racing Avellaneda for 22-year-old left-back Leandro Grimi, local media reported.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti rates the newcomer highly, describing him as "a very interesting youngster".

But Milan's main target is Lazio's Italy right-back Massimo Oddo, whom they tried to tempt north in the summer.

The Lazio captain is in fine form, providing a constant threat on the wing without neglecting his defensive duties as well as scoring goals from free kicks and penalties.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito is reportedly willing to sell but wants to wait until after January 21, as he would hate to see Oddo playing for the opposition when the two sides meet that day.

According to the Italian sports press, Milan are willing to give Lazio six million euros plus midfielder Pasquale Foggia - whois already at Lazio on loan - to land Oddo's services.

Milan need fresh faces in a back-line that currently has an average age well over the 30 mark and has been ravaged by a string of injuries.

Many of the wounded stars should have recovered by the time the season restarts after the Christmas break but Alessandro Nesta and Serginho will probably still be in sick bay on January 13.

The six-time European champions may bolster their attack, if the right opportunities pop up, although this is not thought to be a priority.

Among the options Ancelotti is said to be considering are Udinese's Azzurri forward Vincenzo Iaquinta and Monaco's Italian striker Marco Di Vaio, who is looking to return to Serie A. Torino are interested in bringing Di Vaio back to Italy too, the reports said.

Ancelotti also likes Real Madrid's troubled Italian striker Antonio Cassano, who is reportedly out of favor with coach Fabio Capello. However, Milan are wary of approaching Real for the player, the press says, because the Spanish side may press to have Brazil star Kaka in return.

I do not think Mlan needs Oddo. He is 30 now and can not play many years more. I prefer Ilsinho. He is much younger and can adapt to the team during the rest of the season. Cafu will help him and Ilsinho will be ready to play at his est next season. And together with Grimi will solve the problem with the wingbacks.

Oddo is good, no doubt. Why it took so long to bring him is sad, considering he's now 30. Therefore he is at best a short term solution. At least we are sorted out on the RB position for the next 2 seasons if the move is completed.

We signed Cafu when he was 33, and he's been very useful to us for the good of 3 years. I don't see how can't Oddo do the same considering he's 3 years younger than Cafu when he joined us.
