Season behind closed doors?

It’s reported that the meeting between the Government and football authorities will decree the rest of the season be played behind closed doors.

“Nothing is to be excluded at this point,” commented CONI (Italian Olympic Committee) President Gianni Petrucci.

Following the riots in Catania on Friday evening, which resulted in the death of 38-year-old Chief Inspector Filippo Raciti, FIGC Commissioner Luca Pancalli ordered the immediate suspension of all football activity in Italy until further notice.

A meeting has been set up for Sunday between members of the Government, including Prime Minister Romano Prodi, and the sports authorities to discuss what the next step will be.

According to rumours from within the two camps, the season will be halted for two weeks and when it resumes, it will be behind closed doors for the rest of the campaign.

This will give the clubs and local councils the necessary time to complete renovation work that should already have brought the stadiums up to code under the Legge Pisanu ruling.

The Legge Pisanu demanded all clubs and arenas ensure CCTV footage, numbered and named tickets, stewards paid for by the sides to police the fans and adequate turnstiles, but so far very few stadiums fit the bill.

This is fair .. But what do the other clubs got to do with it ?! I mean .. Serie A is one thing, but CL .. I mean if a European team plays in Italy, will it also play in closed doors ?!

its only an option which will not become a reality.
in this cases everybody expresses their ideas and this is one of them, however playing with closed doors wont help anyone.

Especially the way they do it! You remember when it happened to Merda? (for flares thrown in CL, 1 hit Dida) Rangers were going to take a LOT of fans to the San Siro but weren't allowed - they were punished for what SOME of the Merda fans did! Rest of season would be extreme but the next 3 matches might work. The police must root out the hooligans, ban them, lock them up where necessary. No booze at grounds if necessary. The priority must be the football.

The incedent had nothing to do w/ the fans attending the game, it was murder !

Fans are always gonna drink and tussle during a match; it's part of being a spectator and it hasnt brought any major harm .. Incedents of violence in the stands accumilate to something real small like 5% ...

The issue that Italy is facing is bigger than fans, it's the polotics of all of this, certain ultras and groups that dont know their ethics (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Yea, I went to Notts County vs. Lincoln City (come on the Imps! although we lost (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ) on Saturday and nearly everyone (including me) had 1 or 2 beers (on sale in the ground) and there was no trouble in the ground. It's better to allow fans to drink while the police keep a close eye on them, than ban it and (not be able) to deal with the consequences!

Or they just don't care about them and do what they want anyway (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
