QUOTE (han2503 @ Aug 14 2023, 03:43 PM) I agree re Pioli. Can't see him lasting past November at this point
Disagree re Juve and Lazio though
They are the same, only weaker in Lazio's case without SMS who was their best player. The only thing I'd want off of them would be Sarri.
Juve are still the same and still have Allegri there. So it will be the same slog as last season
Napoli are still good minus Kim but Garcia is a huge question mark
Inter imo have downgraded a lot in terms of squad quality. From Lukaku and Dzeko to Thuram and Arnautovic. Skriniar gone, same with Brozovic. Their old squad is just a year older now. What makes me think of them as being the favorites right now is their midfield, which is the best in the league imo and Inzaghi. He knows how to get the best out of the squad he has. I can understand what you are saying here, however I still see Milan struggling to cement a 3rd/4th place, with Napoli and inter ahead. Juve will have very little distraction being out of Europe and will benefit to reignite after two bad seasons (on and off the pitch). I'd add Atalanta to Lazio as the teams who can surprise this season. The issue with Milan is, the whole midfield was completely altered, while the defense remains the weakest link. Seems as though Pioli wants to bed on "the best defence is offence" type of thing. I honestly see Milan in a period of transition at the moment. |

QUOTE (Danny @ Aug 12 2023, 11:54 PM) In the spirit of suggesting we might be wrong, a good showing from Loftus Cheek against, admittedly, minimalist opposition.
Didn't think he was a bad signing, just a bit of a sideways one, but if he can be more than that, great!
What's the general vibe on here about where Milan are right now? Obviously the management did a lot of changes, the chemistry will not be there. It will take time to get this new midfield to click let alone the front line. inter, Napoli, June and Lazio have an edge in this regard. I have a feeling Pioli will be fired by December and Milan won't have a successful campaign. Another year of rebuilding. Hope I'm wrong. |

So Milan have been confirmed a CL birth, a season of ups and downs - but I for one am proud, for obvious reasons.
Pioli is going to be confirmed, there is no point in arguing over this matter as he has done more than we all expected of him since his appointment.
A marquee signing is what I look forward to, but I doubt there will be BIG money thrown around. Milan will remain on this path, Cardinale stated when he took over that he will not deviate from the strategy Elliot put in place. Yes that means to continue focusing on young players, but in the club?s defense who knows better than Maldini, Massara and Pioli what this team lacks.
In terms of who moves on, I think Zlatan would leave on his own as he has nothing more to give other than a hard fought Scudetto. Otherwise; Diaz, Origi, Florenzi, Dest, Ballo Toure, Vranxx, to name a few would most likely depart this summer.
I believe this summer would be an interesting one, as the appeal to play for ?this? Milan is different from previous seasons, where the project and aims of the club are clear for all to see that the club are back in business (disclaimer: not Milan of the old guard, but an new, fresh and exciting Milan who are punching above their weight from one season to the next). |

Juve deducted points, while Milan have a game with Juve in a couple of days, this is THE most important fixture of the calendar at the moment. As if Milan wins, Milan can cement 4th place with a final game against Verona.
On the assessment side; the season was not great, but not bad either. This team has a core which works. A core that won the Scudetto and went touching distance to the CL trophy. I am inclined to state that from next season Milan need an assault on the Scudetto, while the CL needs to be kept on ice and taken on a game per game basis.
Its been a long journey lads, since Berlusconi sold the club, one which left a lot to be desired. But alas, finally us fans have something to look forward to.

Atalanta?s win against Roma, puts Milan in 4th and tied on points with Roma.
Juventus fell to Napoli, so that keeps Milan at touching distance.
Noting Milan will face all of Lazio, Roma and Juventus before the season ends.
P.S. Han; I understand the frustration with the rotations in the Bologna and Emploi games, but getting to the Semi final is a huge thing in terms of income for the club, not just prize money but sponsorship etc. the frustration is that Milan might not qualify for next seasons edition, and that is not what we all want; let alone the club, coach and players. But given the priorities and what was at stake, it was a risk to be taken.
Going forward, I trust the coach will be 110% focused on securing a CL birth (regardless of what happens with Juve?s points). However further rotation will most likely happen when Milan play the semi finals. And when that time comes, it will be understandable as the income from reaching the final would be that great. It?s a catch 22, you?re damned if you do and you?re damned if you don?t.
I would not want to be in Pioli?s hot seat during May. |

Amazing! Milan on a different level.
Did not watch the match, woke up to the score and watched the game on replay; knowing the results I noticed Milan?s movements and it was one of caution while sponging with counter attacks. Nonetheless, each game has its own conditions and Pioli came out on top.
With regards to the league, Juventus got back the 15 points and are sitting in 3rd place. Roma in 4th, Milan 5th and inter 6th. Roma will play Milan and inter in the coming weeks and it is in Milan?s hands to keep that 4th spot locked down. If Milan don?t succeed, I?m not sure what the outcome would be for Pioli or Leao.
That said, I?m still in disbelief as to how far this team has come, proud! |

Stunning display from Milan. That first half was perfect, defence, midfield and offense; the team worked like a precision Swiss watch.
The difference was in three: 1) starting the attack from a back four, 2) Leao and Brahim tracking back to shore up the midfield and 3) Tonali Bennacer and Krunic owned the middle of the park.
Bennacer man marked Lobotka, who is the man behind the creative engine for this Napoli. He shut him off completely.
The team had three players pressing for the ball when lost, kudos to Krunic and Tonali for such a high work rate.
This game aside, CL will he a different fixture completely. Napoli had a wonderful season and will be crowned champions in the next couple of weeks. But this game will not be on show when the CL tune is played, Milan will be up against a very angry Napoli side. Assuming the team is injury free, fresh and able to put in 120% again, otherwise Napoli will definitely have their say. It won't be easy at all. |
