Bigger deal or not, there might be a reason behind it that we don't know. Everyone here think it's a rift with Allegri, but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere (the benching in the end of last season aside). There was something abot Mexes fighting with some player..

Every Summer I read the same - excuse me - BS about players.

Also, when someone comes back a little bit out of shape it will be made a bigger deal than it is.

I really don't think it's too much to ask for a player not to arrive out of shape. Everyone needs some time to achieve midseason form but these players are getting paid massive wages so the least they could do is maintain fitness during the offseason. We don't know if that is the case here but if it is I wouldn't blame Allegri for being pissed.

as long as players get in the right shape during pre-season I don't see the problem

I certainly see your point but time spent getting back into shape is time that can't be used working on tactics or chemistry. It's not the same when the player is a bit heavy and a couple steps slow.

don't buy it

I think it's exaggeration, and that that all can be done.

Maybe in this case, yes. But the bottom line is very well put: if you have to work on getting back in shape you lose time otherwise spent differently.

I'll be mad if this will turn out another Aquilani deal. not that I'm sad about losing Aquilani, but Zapata is different. we're so short in quality in CB that we can't afford to lose someone like him (decent, young and years of experience in Serie A).

I am aad about leavin Aquilani. He would help this team a lot.

Our midfield can't hold possession. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I don't think so. He'd spend half of the season with yet another injury, just like last season and the season before.

We got Motolivo, now we need a classy playmaker or at least someone with potential. I'd say Aquilani is burned out.

I like to think, just as Milan brought in Nesta, Stam, Cafu, Silva, Zapata, and the list goes on ... Add to that, Zapata never appeared on the radar throughout these two months that we have been waiting, not even one rumor with his name.

I like to think Milan could rebuild with quality regardless of the financial constraints. Sure we can not sign RVP for GBP20MM, but we can sign the Zapata and KPB of the world and they are hard working players that would make up a quality/decent side.

If he regains his Udinese form, should turn into a very good signing.

Correct, and the possibility definitely exists considering he would be playing CB for us most of the time, as opposed to RB at Villareal (in a faster league, bar his speed).

Maybe. But bare in mind that the foundation of our winning team were players like Maldini and Costacurta, homegrown, and Seedorf or Nesta - who were signed in big transfers. Those days are long gone.

Let's hope we seal this deal end of season. He is easily our best defender at present!
