Reports out of Barcelona suggest that AC Milan have tabled an offer for Thiago Motta.

Barcelona sporting director Txiki Begiristain had declared, during the presentation of Yaya Toure on Tuesday, that the Catalans would listen to offers for Thiago Motta.

There have been reports linking the Brazilain of Italian origin with a move to Calcio, with Barca supposedly having tried to include him in their offer for Christian Chivu.

Other Italian clubs have also been linked, and Sport are reporting that AC Milan have made a formal offer for the defensive midfielder.

However, it had fallen short of the 6 million euro price tag that Barcelona have slapped on him.

His agent, Jorge Mendes, will be in Barcelona next week to continue the negotiations, and try to broker an agreement.

Meanwhile, contrary to reports out of Barcelona yesterday, there was no final agreement over the transfer of Edmilson to Newcastle, with Sam Allardyce being forced to return empty handed.

The two parties were even further apart on Eidur Gudjohnsen. However, discussions will continue next week.

He'd be a useful squad player to give some other guys a rest in 'lesser' league games, nothing more for me.

I'd rather to have Emerson. Motta is very injury prone and not as good.

He's surely better than Brocchi but worse than all the other DMFs we've been linked with this summer...

It seems like \wWe have a chance to snatch Emerson and he's way better so get him instead.

Motta? No thanks, unless he comes in a package deal with, say, Zambrotta and/or one of Eto'o/Ronaldinho.

QUOTE
Thiago Motta is chasing a move to the Premier League after being told he can leave Barcelona.

The midfielder is being pushed out of Camp Nou following the midweek acquisition of Yaya Toure from Monaco.

He is hoping to persuade Barca to allow him to move on a free transfer and he has already been linked with Manchester City, Middlesbrough and West Ham United.

The Brazilian feels he would suit the English game and is now looking for Barca to tear up the final 12 months of his contract.

"I've spent my entire career at Barcelona, so if our coach is not interested in me I expect the gesture of them making it easy for me to move on," Motta is quoted in the Sunday Mirror.

"If I am a free agent it will be easy to find a new club.

"The Premier League is sensational and has a style that's perfectly suited to the way I play.

"I've played many games against English opposition and believe I can enjoy football in England.

"The key at the moment is to sort out my Barca situation."
