I hate this. I hate this nonsense of a young player having a few great matches then suddenly everyone fawning over them like they're Maradona.
I call it Senna Syndrome - the ease with which a good performer is elevated to genius or above in the event of death or failure, while others who came after, achieved far more, dominated more, achieved things no one else ever has (COUGH VETTEL COUGH) get next to no credit while modern fans fawn over what the earlier one could have done.
Which is not to smear Senna, fine driver - but seems higher rated than those who achieved more both at the SAME TIME as him (Prost) and subsequently (a whole bunch).
Ok, sorry, what was this thread about again (IMG:

Well that's the point about death isn't it, he was an amazing driver who had his life cut short, thus was never able to achieve all that he could have should he have had the opportunity to finish out his career like others have had.
I'm not huge on formula 1, that's my dad's thing, but he's a huge Ferrari fan, so subsequently a huge Schumacher fan, and even he says that Senna was one of the best drivers he ever watched.
With someone who fails due to being mentally not there like Cassano, his obvious talent was there for all to see in his early days, his touch, vision, dribbling, he could do it all. It's why Real wanted him so badly and that is when the cracks started showing during that summer when he transferred from Roma to Real.
He simply was never committed enough, not physically and not mentally. Add to that he's obviously got a bit of a screw loose and he was never going to be able to realise what he initially promised he'd become back then.

I disagree. I think in his day Balotelli can be world class, he's got the skills to make that happen. But it's his attitude that prevents him from doing that. And I'm not saying his attitude off the pitch, but his passive playing style. If Balotelli had the grit and determination of Lapadula he would be unstoppable.
Agreed. Balo definitely had the raw talent, he just never really showed any sort of desire to putting in the work needed to be a true pro.
That's why I admire players like Ronaldo. I think compared to Messi he's not as naturally gifted but the amount of work he put in to reach the level he's at is simply admirable.
