Can't overstate my joy at keeping him, at the very LEAST till January.

Massive hold for Milan to keep the best DM in the league and one of the top 5 on earth.

De Jong and his agent are meeting today to discuss his future. Which presumably means an offer may be on the table and we might be losing him in January. Most likely to Man Utd.

He is loyal but if Utd offer £20M+ and him a f*ck off wage I wouldn't totally blame him for seriously considering it. They will be CL next season - after a slow start they've regained form. Whereas we have zero guarantee of even UEL.

For £20M+ I'd sell De Jong on the spot.

1. Is there an offer at all?

2. Is a £20M+ really realistic for a player in his final year of contract with us?

3. Nothing is guaranteed. Not us, not United in the CL. LvG may be the only edge.

4. What makes you say de Jong is loyal X-O? Just out of curiosity...

He's the one player we have worth that or more. We wouldn't get a player of that quality to replace him. If we sell him it would be an absolute downgrade we'll get in replacement.

Not yet, just supposition from me.

It is if he extends. If Utd want a top class DM in January and he extends now then they'll have to pay. Otherwise, yes, I accept that at his age in the final year of his deal we'd probably only get £10M absolute tops. If he has intentions on leaving then likely he won't extend and he'll leave for a free in the summer.

Utd are a sure thing to make CL. It'll be them, Chelsea, City and Arsenal.

Agreed there

I love the guy but 20m pounds for us would be huge and we could easily shuffle some things around and replace him for the rest of the season, it's not like we're facing top teams any time soon

If the offer isn't good then we should try to do what we can to keep him

I'm wondering what they're doing with Abate as well since this is his last year and we've heard nothing so far.

Not to mention Mexes who they've left on his massive wage when they could have easily renewed with him last summer and spread what he's earning for just this year over 2 or 3 years, he seems very open to renewing for a reduced wage

Easily renewed? Han, you make it sound like you are a manager (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Everything he's said and done since he signed for us.

I'm more than fine with Montolivo as DM if we sign a good creative mid with the money.

Have to agree. He's conducted himself impeccably, given us everything, and been our best player over the past 24 months.

I'm not sure he's good enough at destroying to play the enforcing role by himself. Unlike guys like Scholes, Giggs and Gerrard who got placed there based on being old, Monto is still young and surely has more to offer in the CM role.

Well, it usually goes that if both parties are agreeable then negotiations usually go rather quickly and smoothly. And Mexes has said many times over that he wants to stay, even if he needs to take a pay cut

As for the club, they'd be stupid not to jump at the chance at renewing the deal for a wage cut as he's the best we can have right now on the budget we're on. If Mexes leaves I can't see us replacing him with someone equally as good

Sadly, Nigel didn't leave for ManUtd or become our captain this season. Past players as well...
