Borriello fails dope test Milan have suffered a severe blow as striker Marco Borriello has tested positive for corticosteroids.
The player reported for a routine doping test after Week 11’s match with Roma at the San Siro, which ended with a 2-1 defeat for the Rossoneri, and the Roman lab which analyzed the sample confirmed on Thursday that he was found positive for two different corticosteroids.
His B sample is now expected to be analyzed, in order to understand if the result will be confirmed.
The incriminating substances are commonly used as antibiotics in treating inflammatory illnesses such as asthma and can be either ingested or injected.
Borriello has scored three goals so far this season, hitting a brace in the Coppa Italia match with Brescia and one goal in the Serie A tie with Cagliari on December 3.

QUOTE (zdrossoneri @ Dec 21 2006, 11:09 PM) He's never been a Milan-class striker. I don't even know what is he doing there! And I don't even consider him as our fifth choice striker! he must be shown the door out of Milan ASAP! And we should bring a real striker in January. I wanted Tavano, but he ended up in Roma... He might not be milan quality but he is a home grown player, and from next year or the one after that (not totally sure) UEFA rules will state that you will have to have at least 5 home growv players on you squad of 24 players, so....

QUOTE (mchanna @ Dec 21 2006, 11:48 PM) still... I'm sure there are 5 better primaveras than borriello... Who knows, Antonelli looks promising, and they keep talking ab=bout Di Gennaro and Darmain, but still 5 home grown players is a lot. And Boriello might not be the classyest of strikers around but he would be ok as back up to have on the bench.

QUOTE (mishale @ Dec 22 2006, 12:03 AM) next year 2 home grown and two Italy born. A year after 3 and 3 and a year after that 4 and 4. Thanks wasn't sure how it was going to be applied. Anyway, considering the fact that Billy and Paolo probably won't be with us then that's 2 homegrown players that are gone. We have no problem with Italy born players (we're not Inter or Arsenal) but having at least decent quality primavera's is a must and I think Boriello is pretty decent

QUOTE (mishale @ Dec 22 2006, 12:15 AM) Also Oddo can help in that department. He grew up in Milan. I don't think Bori is so bad. He is fine for 4th striker spot. Yep I think that's why they would prefer him to anybody else, despite his age. He is a great player and comes with the added bonus of being one of our own
