Massimo Ambrosini has left the Italy camp after suffering a thigh injury that could also rule him out of Milan’s Serie A opener.

The midfielder was all set for his first official appearance in two years, but the right thigh strain he picked up in training proved too serious.

He was considered unable to recover in time for tonight’s Euro 2008 qualifier with Lithuania or Wednesday’s clash with France.

The bad news filters down to Milan too, as Ambrosini’s injury requires more tests to ascertain if he’ll be fit for the September 10 Serie A opener against Lazio at San Siro.

Italy Coach Roberto Donadoni has already called in reinforcements for that role, bringing along Sampdoria duo Angelo Palombo and Gennaro Del Vecchio.

poor poor ambrosini. too many injuries. and he is a really good player. of course when he gets fit, if he does, he wont be the same. i know we always thkn oh, poor ambro, but i wonder wat he must think about it. that he is always the unlucky one who gets injured. its just unfair

QUOTE
The Milan midfielder has been struggling with a muscular problem he picked up in training earlier in the week.

Ambrosini had quickly been ruled out of Saturday's game at home to Lithuania, but coach Roberto Donadoni hoped the player could be fit to face France.

But Azzurri team doctors feel Ambrosini will be better advised to rest the injury and he will sit out the World Cup final rematch next Wednesday.

He has now returned home to continue his rehabilitation, but he is not expected to be sidelined for long.

Ambro just seems like he is made out of glass. let's hope he recovers soon because we need him now that Vogel is gone, even though we have Brocchi, but I see him more as a Rino sub then as a DMF

Yes. I think Seedorf is the only one that can play any position in our midfield diamond

Yep. He replaced Pirlo two years ago, against Chievo in San Siro. I remember very well that match, cause he scored the victory goal.
