Toni leaves Fiorentina
Fiorentina striker Luca Toni has officially ended his spell with the Tuscan outfit, confirmed the club this afternoon.
The world champion, last season’s Capocannoniere with 31 goals, had already been close to leaving the Gigliati last summer, before deciding to stay to help the side come back from the 15-point Calciopoli penalisation.
The former Palermo man has reportedly already agreed a two-year contract with Bayern Munich and saluted his supporters at the Stadio Franchi on Sunday after the match with Sampdoria, which he was forced to skip as part of his recovery from surgery on a metatarsal injury.
“Fiorentina announce that this morning President Andrea Della Valle met with Luca Toni,†read an official message posted on the club’s website.
“Thanking him for the important contribution given to the team in the past two seasons with his 49 goals, the President deemed appropriate to grant the striker’s wish to continue his career with another club.â€
Toni, who turned 30 on Saturday, joined the Viola from Palermo in 2005, having also played for Treviso, Vicenza and Brescia.
Diego Della Valle had stated that the club would not stand in the player’s way, as he was confident that Fiorentina already has excellent players in the squad who can replace the hitman.
“He has made up his mind to leave, he is a champion, he is good person and he merits everyone’s respect.
“Giampaolo Pazzini and Adrian Mutu will represent Fiorentina’s attacking duo for many years to come. We will bring some reinforcements but we are already competitive,†explained Della Valle
