He's still a more defensively inclined player. like Boateng is box-to-box but more on the attacking side of the spectrum.

Nocerino's main goal is still to break up plays in midfield so that VB can sweep up behind him. He makes smart runs into the box when the opportunity arises. But he's just not an attacking player. And saying that Urby is better defensively is a sin imo

Boateng is in no way, shape or form an attacking midfielder. Certainly not in the traditional sense of the word.

And Urby is better defensively? Sure he covers spaces well and does a lot of running, but when have you seen Urby recovering a ball or winning it off of someone? Those are the 2 main factors which define a defensive minded player. Something that Nocerino accomplishes in every game btw

At first I thought Nocerino was defensive minded too, but later when I saw Emanuelson in midfield I noticed a huge difference in defending. Emanuelson defends way more and much better. And because of that, Aquilani can be more decisive, instead of being the main one helping Van Bommel. Emanuelson and Van Bommel, will keep the Aquilani assist machine (he started well in assists but later he was playing deeper and deeper because of Nocerino attacking mind).

He's good, sometimes great; yet he isn't the regular or classic AM. He's a great fill-up for the position, yet his movement and his passing overall isn't what an AM should be.

I don't get why you disregard Nocerino's defensive work. Ball interception aren't all; he makes tactical fouls, he covers enough space; the bigger problem is that he isn't ordered to do the classic DM stuff.
