I follow your thoughts, guys, and han going over the top with things as usual. Not sure if Ganso is the ideal fit for that LCM spot though, if I have to believe people who know Ganso well. Instead of an AM, why not sign a LCMish player for that spot? Schweinsteiger, Fabregas, Hernanes, Banega, Aquilani, etc.

Benega, not really sure he'd fit in. While even though I like Aquilani, he's just very sparodic and not really reliable imo. Ganso imo is more realistic. If we get both him and Hamsik they both can play the 2 positions (AM, LCM) so Allegri can see which one works best where. Personally I think Hamsik would be better in the LCM position with Ganso behind the strikers. Anyways, these are all just rumours. I find it really hard to believe that we'd manage to get both, at this point it's not looking good for either

QUOTE (han2503 @ Jul 5 2011, 06:53 PM) Most teams play with one DM, Man U have none and it's not like they have a great team to back that up, yet they're still very successful in Europe and domestically. Chelsea: 1 DM, Inter: same, Real: same
All major teams play with 1 DM and having VB sitting in front of the defense would be enough, Hamsik and Boateng would add a lot of dynamism to the midfield since they're both runners who are willing to sacrifice themselves to cover defensively, Inserting a player like Gattuso or even Flamini in there is just pointless. We won the Scudetto in spite of tha last season, since most times when Rino played we looked like we were a man down.
Van Bommel provided all our defensive stability, his positioning is always impeccable so he made it look like a walk in the park next to all the huffing and puffing Rino and Flamini usually put in.
The midfield X-off posted has the best balance. Running, defensive stability and creativity. Going out in the CL once again with a tactically limited player like Gattuso will result in another pre-mature exit. Add to that he's not even good at what he used to do in the past to begin with, which is winning balls.
Sticking a whole bunch of DMs won't solve any problems if we can't keep the ball and that's what we'll need to do, having someone like Gattuso/Flamini/Ambro in there would compromise that Thank you!!!

QUOTE (CHU-LIP @ Jul 5 2011, 08:38 PM) Aquilani not reliable? Hard to deny, but eh, Ganso is?
I agree Ganso as AM, and Hamsik as LCM makes more sense than vice versa. Performance wise Aquilani is all over the place imo. Ganso is unreliable physically. But he has time to overcome that since he's still young. Aquilani has had multiple chances to shine on the big stage and never really did. Don't get me wrong, I really like Aquilani and personally prefer his style over Hamsik's, but I don't think it would be wise to rely on him

If you ask me, and I really feel like a broken record, none of the mentioned - Aquilani, Ganso, Hamšik - satisfy me, or at least the supposed goal in CL we have. Only a player proven at the highest stages can bring us that goal.
About Ganso - it's tricky to comment things based on just a few matches, so my words here go cum grane sale - Jack spoke a few days ago how he's doubtful at Gansos acclimatisation in Serie A. Just the other day we saw what happened when a 10-men Venezuela defense stopped Brazil, and exactly at Gansos cost. This could easily happen here as well. He might overcome it, might also become physically stronger, but do we have the time to wait? Or better, do we have enough creative solutions without him? I don't think so.
Schweinsteiger, De Rossi and Fabregas sound like fantacalcio, but those are the players IMO who can bring us to the next level.

Who wouldn't like Fabregas or Schweinsteiger? But I see it impossible to signing either of them. So, we must be pleased with what we can afford. After all, we've rarely signed world class players at their peak. Nesta, Rui Costa and Ibrahimovic spring to mind, and that's about it.

You forgot Inzaghi (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) But hey, those players you've mentioned were the backbone of our CL successes. I know my words sound like I'm expecting the impossible, but IMO with Hamšik and Ganso in January we're not even near a good CL result.

They're building step-by-step a youthful and interesting competitive side.
A big question is how will Luis Enrique turn out as a coach. Another is their defense. If Steckelenburg and a CB come along,...
