QUOTE (milanbuf88 @ May 23 2011, 03:53 PM) Keep trying to convince everyone. I'm sure you'll get us eventuality (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) About what part? That Pirlo isn't one of our best players, or the 3 year extension part? Tell me if you really find Pirlo one of our best players, while we have players like Thiago Silva, Robinho, Van Bommel, Ibrahimovic, Pato, Nesta, Abbiati, Boateng, and I can go on, who are all obvious better and more important than Pirlo is nowadays. Even Seedorf, but only when he feels like it of course.

QUOTE (CHU-LIP @ May 23 2011, 01:29 PM) It's not really mind boggling. This is a new policy. Milan has learned from the past. We're still stuck with Jankulovski, Oddo and Zambrotta because of it. Now, Milan will only give 1 year extensions to 30+ players. Which is a good thing. This avoids one player getting difficult about it, because a different player do get a longer extension.
Pirlo is not one of our best players, nor did he deserve a 3 year extension anyway. You're talking about Oddo and Janku and comparing them to an Italian first team international (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Oddo was given 2 years at the beginning of last year so it's not such a stretch (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Imo player like Janku and Oddo shouldn't even be considered for extenstion, while I agree that players like Nesta, Ambro and Seedorf, shouldn't be given more then 1 year, they have hit their mid-thirties and wouldn't make any sense to give them anything for longer, I don't think they would even want that themselves. But Pirlo is still 31, he's not 35, for a footballer that's a huge differnce, and 2 to 3 years is a reasonable length of contract for someone that age. It's not 5 years but 1 year is just insulting for Pirlo. Also I really don't understand how you suddenly have become Pirlo's number 1 hater, has he done something to you that we should know about? (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) QUOTE (milanbuf88 @ May 23 2011, 01:53 PM) Keep trying to convince everyone. I'm sure you'll get us eventuality (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Thanks for saving me the time to respond to that (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) (IMG: style_emoticons/default/king.gif) QUOTE (acid911 @ May 23 2011, 01:53 PM) While this is a big improvement, I would not even give 1 year extensions to player after 30. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) You are free to extend for any amount of years at the age 29, but after 30, nope. If a player is worth keeping, Milan should sign them for 4, 5 years before they turn 30. I know not everyone may agree with me on this, but this is the only way to weed out the root, and focus on the youth. Players like Oddo, Janku and a whole lot of chaps that stickied themselves to the club in the last few decades shouldn't be doing that. The next batch of younger (cheaper and hungrier) players should be in line to take over the reigns. And this is something the club is focusing on next, which I really like. I don't care if we grow them in house or import them from Italy or around the world, to stay competitive from now on, we needed this policy change. Enough 100m+ wage bills when teams like Napoli and others bring in almost equal results on 30m per year. Come on now acid!! Players like Nesta, Pirlo and VB should have been given contracts, they're still top class players, and I find it hard to find any youth player who even comes anywhere close to being what they are. Doesn't really make any sense. The club had a great opportunity to reduce the wage bill this season, Pirlo, Nesta, Ambro and Seedorf all got high wages that should have been reduced, all of them agreed to this, Pirlo was just cast a side for something ridiculous imo, becuase I'm sure money didn't come into this. While other players which have been leeching off the club should have been respectfully sent away. That should have been the stretegy, contract lengths should have been reasonably discussed. Pirlo for example is younger then the others and should have been given a contract accordingly, same goes for the others who are older then him. It's simple logic really, are we going to turn into Arsenal now (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Go ahead and call it ''not such a stretch'', but the truth is that Milan didn't have this policy back then but do have now. And Pirlo is 32 years old, only 1 year younger than Ambrosini, so it makes enough sense Pirlo don't get an exception. An insult to Pirlo? (IMG: style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) LOL! It would have been an insult to the others if they all get only 1 year extension, and Pirlo can have 3! That would be just unfair.

Oddo got the extension just this summer, not 2 years ago! He had it extended for 2 years, this season and the next (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) And you make it sound like they just thought it up a month ago and suddenly just had to enforce it or hell would freeze over (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Pirlo was born 1979, Ambro was born 1977, how is that just 1 year? Did we learn a different kind of math from each other? And lol, you really want to start comparing Pirlo to Ambro again? One is actually a top class talented footballer, the other is Ambrosini (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Pirlo for example is younger then the others and should have been given a contract accordingly, same goes for the others who are older then him. It's simple logic really, are we going to turn into Arsenal now I know it is hard, but we have to draw the line somewhere. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) What the club is doing now is the right way forward, somewhat less extreme than what I had in mind, so pretty sure this will work out. My case is securing the player for how many years as it is necessary before they turn 30. Be it four, five, three or two. Sure class acts like Nesta, Pirlo deserve an exception, Ambro and Seedorf less so. This is of course speaking on current form and fitness, of course. At their best, all four were, well, best. So yeah, this one year extension policy may just very well work. Judge each player on a case by case basis, in consultation with the coach. If a guy can't find a place in the team, or is just past it, it's best to part ways so the said player can get playing time in another team/league. As almost everyone here was on these pat few years, that Milan is not a retirement home, and should not be. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Sure Pirlo is a casualty, and a very big one at that. But the fact remains that we need to get back to our winning ways - in Serie A as well as CL. And youth is the what will carry us there (not 18-year old youth, but under 30 ones). A highly competitive team is what everyone needs and wishes for. One that can trade blows with the best in the world. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) If we have a 35-year old Hercules (senator), then fine, let's keep him, otherwise, if he is a multi million earner who comes of the bench every now and then, I'd much rather have a young Perseus (youngster) and an odd Bellerophon (star player) to round off the squad.

Pirlo's date of birth is 19 May 1979 whic makes him 32 years old. Ambrosini's date of birth is 29 May 1977, which makes him 33 years old. So why you say Pirlo is 31 years old? I expect better from you. QUOTE And lol, you really want to start comparing Pirlo to Ambro again? One is actually a top class talented footballer, the other is Ambrosini (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Talented is the right word. SHAME he doesn't preform like a top class player though. I explained it in his thread why so... and I really find it sad you keep being so negative about Ambrosini. He doesn't deserve this. QUOTE Oddo got the extension just this summer, not 2 years ago! Anywho, our new awesome policy happened VERY RECENTLY. We made mistakes in the pasts, therefore yay we have learned from it. QUOTE (Fishdoll @ May 23 2011, 04:35 PM) Nice post. Care to explain why you find me trolling? What do you think of Pirlo joining Juventus? You hate Kaká and Sheva for what they did. So I really wonder what you have to say...

Milan want Reo-Coker!? QUOTE ASTON Villa midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker, who is now out of contract, is the subject to interest from some of Europe's top clubs.
The 27-year-old who has been at Villa since joining from West Ham in 2007, is reported to have the AC Milan, Napoli and Valencia after his signature.
Reo-Coker's agent Tony Finnigan said: "The interest from abroad is huge in Nigel, a team from just about every major league is looking at him,"
"Milan, Dortmund, Napoli, Valencia, Fenerbahce - they are all looking at him."
It's not only teams from Europe that Reo-Coker is attracting. There are a host of teams in the Premier League keeping a close eye on the situation. Reo-Coker cannot officially move until the summer transfer window re-opens on July, 1. He's better than Rino, Ambro and Flamini, but it's still a bit surprising that these clubs supposedly want him.

I don't get, I don't get a few people here, but I'm sure it goes both ways. QUOTE I know not everyone may agree with me on this, but this is the only way to weed out the root, and focus on the youth. I understand you point Acid, but why can't you understand that Milan never will or has any plan on relying on their youth. Even now, when a chance is opening for players like Strasser or Paloschi to jump in, we do just about everything to ship them off in exchange for a price tag reduction. What's the last youth product we hang on? Abate! Point is, I'd rather keep Oddo as a 3rd sub then go after a crappy 27 year old replacement that hasn't bond with the team as well as Massimo did. In the end, those guys play usually 3-5 matches all season long, and Oddo really did not do such devastating harm. QUOTE I know it is hard, but we have to draw the line somewhere. And IMO not here - I'd trade Rino's, Oddo's and Ambro's 1 year extension for Pirlo's 3 years. Don't you get it, I mean, we drew the line on the one player we really could have used and made important for a new setting. Ambro and Rino are fading, their contribution is still important, but more and more off the pitch and in the locker room then on pitch. We could have secured us a gentleman captain for the next 3 seasons while now we have two captains for one and then a big question mark. I can't say this is the right way for sure! QUOTE Talented is the right word. SHAME he doesn't preform like a top class player though. I explained it in his thread why so... and I really find it sad you keep being so negative about Ambrosini. He doesn't deserve this. I agree, Ambro is a good player all in all and our captain, he should be respected. Pirlo and Ambro shouldn't be compared. But what I don't get is where are those hard evidences you seem to have to back up your treatment of Pirlo? Did Ambrosini had a good season this year? Did we win more games without him?

So why you say Pirlo is 31 years old? I expect better from you. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So based on just a few days you're saying he's just a year older? So to make it easier for you we'll revisit this discussion at the end of the week, then Ambro will be 2 years older then Pirlo making him 34 (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Come on now stop trying to back your theories by such arguments... Fact here is that Ambro is still 2 years older then Pirlo, which make a hell of a lot of difference. Also, Pirlo just had his bday, so what if I said 31? My mistake.. I still say I'm 23 because I turned 24 in March and haven't gotten used to it. Please don't shoot me for the mistake... QUOTE (CHU-LIP @ May 23 2011, 02:41 PM) Talented is the right word. When has Pirlo not ever given his all for Milan? Please show me one game where Pirlo walked around like he didn't give a sh!t. As for Ambro, you make him sound like he's the second coming, when in reality he's injury prone, doesn't maintain his form for extended periods of time and is a limited footballer at best with no quality to back up his terrible tackling... Stop trying to make it sound like it's the new holy law that shall be followed by thou (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) nd yes Oddo was a mistake, same goes for so many other player I can't even count, but Pirlo cannot be grouped with those players QUOTE (CHU-LIP @ May 23 2011, 02:41 PM) Nice post. Pirlo is not joining Juve for the money or for bigger and better things like the other 2 did. He's doinf what is best for his family, giving them a stable life where he doesn't have to live season by season. Juve have given him the assurance that Milan wouldn't.

I also still think I'm 23 years old sometimes, while I'm 24 since April... I should have not said this, or at least not the way I did. Sorry for that. As for Ambro, you make him sound like he's the second coming, when in reality he's injury prone, doesn't maintain his form for extended periods of time and is a limited footballer at best with no quality to back up his terrible tackling... I made a long post in Pirlo's thread what bugs me about him. Ambrosini has every game heart and spirit, more than I see coming from Pirlo. Also, Ambrosini's tackling is excellent. I don't get it how you can think it's terrible. Yet praise Flamini over Ambrosini and Gattuso, while he is the one who has his usual two foot slidings, but if anything, Ambrosini and Gattuso are the better tacklers of the three. Pirlo is the most talented of the mentioned players, but he is very limited, at least he is nowadays. Even though he is way more talented, it isn't him, but Ambrosini who plays better for Milan and helps Milan more in success the recent years. QUOTE Oh my :headslap: Where you at the Via Turati offices when they decared this new policy? You're only basing this new suddenly founded argument on a news snippet posted earlier in the day!! Stop trying to make it sound like it's the new holy law that shall be followed by thou (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) "From now on we will only give 1-year contracts to players over a certain age - around 30-ish". - Adriano Galliani. So Pirlo should not be an exception. And stop talking about comparing Pirlo's case to Oddo's, since Galliani hasn't said this back then. You also find it a mistake what we did with Oddo, so you should understand Galliani learned from this mistake?

QUOTE (William405 @ May 23 2011, 03:09 PM) The thing that I don't get is why couldn't he accept a one year long contract, then next season if things don't go well,he could go to juve or any other club...He might have wanted a 3 year contract to assure his stay. Choices and results could have been: 1 year at milan:Didn't work out well,he moves to a smaller club. 1 year at milan:Does well, and extends contract. 3 years at Juve:Assured contract for three years obviously.
It's pretty obvious that he isn't happy to leave milan, but maybe it wasn't a risk he was willing to take. Like I said, a 1 year contract is another year where he is unsure of his future. I'm sure everyone forets from time to time, but players are actual people... Pirlo has a family to think about. What Juve offered him is stable livig environment for his family, and Pirlo wanted that more then the money and prestige that would have come to him had he stayed

Okay, okay, let's stop this here. Apperently we are not moving forward, hell I did not get even an response. Anyway, let's move to transfer talks, you know...Ganso, Fabregas, Lass, Ganso again, Lamela...argh, Captain Jack is so much better in cutting these noway discussions with his brainstorm trivialization (IMG: style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Where's he when you need him! Drunk of rum on a deserted island...
