I saw the replay many times, I was certain Flamini took the ball. But considering the aftermath, I guess he must have hit Corluka as well.

Flamini had is studs one side of the ball while Corluka was kicking it, as is Corluka must have just bruised his foot as he'll be ok for the return leg. Gattuso came of much worse from Palacios' thigh high challenge and had to have twelve stitches! Funnily enough that went unpunished...

Flamini's tackle was hideous, I'm sorry it doesn't take a nasty injury for that sort of tackle to be punished in my mind, those sorts of tackles will break legs. The only thing you hope as the receiving player of it is your legs give way, if your studs/blades plant into the ground you're done for.

QUOTE (Milan Are Brilliant @ Feb 17 2011, 05:52 PM) *
It's not really about getting the ball with this sort of tackle. When you jump in/lunge in, you are not in control of what you're doing, natural momentum takes over. There's no way of stopping yourself when you do this. Let alone when you do it with both feet and showing studs. It's a recipe for disaster.

You do that a few times and you will break someone's leg, at the very least their ankle.

It's not about the end injury. It's like saying Gattuso's headbutt was fine because Jordan didn't get knocked out.

What he says just sounds like a guilty man to be honest. It's like someone I know is racist and alwas comes out with "how can I be racist, I have a black friend". This just sounds the same as that. He's Scottish too..

Are you saying these just because he's a Scotsman?

Before that night was there any evidence that he's racist towards Italians?!this is an interview with him before the game. he doesn't sound like the person you make him out to be at all.

The Scottish thing was a joke. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

But he does have previous. Pires went to the Spurs sideline earlier this season when Jordan said something to him. Gattuso went to the Spurs sideline when Jordan said something to him. What's the common factor here? Footballers gets abuse from each other/fans all game long, so why would 2 players that've been in the game as long as Pires and Rino react like this? Had we been losing at the time I think maybe it'd be frustration of some sort, but at the time it was 0-0 and we were on top.

Agreed

I definitely think Joe Jordan should be penalised. My gripe is not with Rino losing his head. It's with Rino the captain of the most decorated squad in the world losing his head.

It's like Roger Federer trying to pick a fight with Murray. Why?? The gulf in class is obvious..yet Rino reduced us from virtual footbaling royalty to being a thuggish team. I can never forgive him for this. I've stuck up for him through thick and thin..and he did this shite that for me is unforgivable.

Come on Jack. You always knew Rino had this side of him, and to add to that, the fact that he was also greatly provoked by someone who shouldn't have even been allowed to talk to the players. I think you're being unfair to Rino. You have no idea how you would react if someone offended you personally

His words could be the words of a guilty person as much as the words of an innocent person. I perfectly understand your example, it's quite typical and I've heard it before myself but then if he were innocent he'd bring up those things too wouldn't he? It's just how one wants to see this.

Personally I think he did not say anything like that, I'm sure he must have said something personal to Gattuso but I doubt he made racist comments. (Unless he said something about cave men and Gattuso felt it offended his race... )

Mostly, the fact that it was one of Gattuso's agents that brought this up leads me to believe it was not really said. If it was another player who made this claim I'd believe it but I think this is just a case of an agent trying to justify his client's actions.

I don't care if JJ had any right to talk to Gattuso and I don't care about what he told Gattuso. Surely JJ was wrong to do any of that and should be penalized but that does not justify Gattuso's actions, period. Even more so because he captained the team that night. And no, none of us knows how he would react but we all know how we expect the man with the armband to react.

Rino had that side to him? Since when? This is the first time ANY Milan player has done this kind of shenanigans. It's one thing to constantly trashtalk your opponent on the field, head in strong for a tackle etc. But this?? This is cheap.

And no I'm not saying J.Jordan is not guilty. I'm ashamed that the captain of a club of Milan's stature actually stooped to pick up the bait thrown by some cheap *** club's Assistant coach.

You know what Ambro would have done...he'd have dragged Rino away when the argument was going on, coz he feels the weight of the damn armband.

Paolo would have interfered in the match itself. Probably slapped Rino in the head, told him to shape up. Walked over to the fourth ref and tell him to do his job when a coach is outside the technical area...and finally when the whistle blew, drag Rino away with him to the dressing room, not even letting something ugly develop.

THIS is what being a captain is all about.

Spot on, Jack.
spot.on.

I remember once Rino went mad a couple of years ago and was trying to do attack some opponent, Paolo did the exact same things you mentioned in your post. only now I'm realizing how important it is to have a true captain...

I didn't mean JJ jadn't done anything wrong, I was saying I doubted the racism claim. as dst said, it was Rino's agent who brought that up, while Rino said he wouldn't tell anyone the words he and JJ exchanged between each other. how did his agent know about it anyway?

Anyway, what Rino did that night was terribly wrong, but he managed it to make it worse by letting his agent bring up with that racism nonsense.

All I have to say is that some of you have over idealised pictures of what Rino truely is and was. Paolo was the only one who culd really control him back in the day, I remember that game against Juve in 05/06 at the San Siro, it was electric, Rino feeds off that, combine that with him, Emerson and Nedved trading blows every chance they got it quickly got out of hand. Paolo got in his face, and really told him off, Rino didn't utter a single word back.

Jack in the past you've made comments about Rino putting Zlatan or Robinho in their place if they went out of line, but this again was you over idealising the old gaurd of Rino, Seedorf and Ambro, all have shown us their less then stellar sides in the past. rino has acted crazy before, and I'll continue to say it's not something new out him even if you're denying such things. Ambro has also acted as less then what is expected out of a Milan captain, arguing when on a yellow, getting sent off in the process and leaving the team hanging. Seedorf acting like a petulent child when he's taken off, come out the wrong side of the pitch, fighting with the coach near the touch line.

Again, I don't blame Rino for the entire situation, it's unfair to do so. Stating that the armband should have stopped him? Guess what there is no real captain in our team, haven't had that since Paolo retired, we barely even have a coach who lets Zlatan walk all over him and Rino as well at time imo. how do you expect these players to act controlled when they feel like they are running the show?

Problem here is not Rino. We have trouble in the dressing rooms, there is no real leader, or figure of authority, Allegri certainly is not that, and neither are Rino and ambro if you ask me

I think Ambrosini is. I realized that after the PSV game, when he scored and send us to the final with the captains armband on him. But what would you expect after Paolo Maldini? History rarely gives you the oppotunity to do thing twice, let alone three times. We had a brilliant captain in Baresi and then Maldini took charge, not much changed, in fact, some things got better and the transition was smooth.

Now we cannot expect the line to be continued. It's like for example the Pope John Paul II; not as single pope after him (at least in near future) can come up to his achievements and style; therefor it is only logical to assume someone like Ratzinger taking over. Same happened with kings, monarchs, semi-gods, etc - all leaders. Simplified, but yes, same is happening to Milan.

Like Jack said some time before, not everyone is born to be a leader. Pirlo cannot do it IMO. I'm not sure, but I think my favorites for the job still are Ambro and Abbiati, if not Nesta.

I really don't think scoring a last minute winner says much about leadership skills. To me Ambro is not a true leader, he usually instigates more cr@p then he tries to diffuse, maybe not in the crazy over the top way Rino does, but it's the same thing, only more subdued.

Nesta imo would be the obvious captain choice, if he doesn't want to take it, then Abbs would be next on my list

Not the goal, but his look, his emotions, his expression.

I think some people view the armband as something that gives super powers, when in reality our new captains are only human, Paolo and Baresi just were not human, that is why we go up in arms when Rino or Ambro make mistakes, because it is not something we're used to from someone wearing the armband
