They're a bit different though. The 'US' and 'Ameria' are both just shortened names of the proper name 'The United States of America', (like calling it the 'UK' when the proper name is 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland').. whereas Holland is just an area.. it'd be like calling England 'West Midlands', very strange.

It's got to be Portugal. While they had a poor World Cup, in the future I could see them going far.

really depends on what country REALLY starts investing in their teams. Right now, the US probably pumps more money in the program than anyone else...but I still find it hard to believe they'll win their first world cup in the next 8 years (unless the world cup comes to the US in 2018).

Holand and Portugal would be the obvious favourites, then I'd say it's probably you. Your population alone will give you a huge advantage once you start becoming a great footballing nation - like Brazil, they have a massive poopulation in comparison to all the other major fotballing nations (Argentina, France, England, germany, Italy, et. all around the 40m-60m mark in comparison to Brazils 200m).

In fact, to take this discussion to another level - to me, this was both a dissapointing and pretty unentertaining World cup. USA 1994, France 1998 and Germany 2006 were all much better tournaments IMO. This one produced nothing extraordinary, nothing special.

I just saw it again, it wasn't RIGHT AFTER Holland's FK when Spain scored, Holland got the ball again and attacked once more through Elia. but who knows, if the ref had seen that deflected FK and given Holland a corner kick, Spain wouldn't have scored that goal. it's football after all.

Mathijsen and Elia were protesting that blatant body check by Puyol on the kid just outside the box. That was a FK for sure...and the play from there was what led to the goal. You'll notice the Dutch forward players just stop a few second expecting the whistle to blow, as a result they don't run back to cover as swiftly as they were doing all game.

I feel that should have been a second yellow to Puyol.

I think the WC kicked off once in the knock-out stage. Germany were the most exciting team, but Spain proved to be the most consistent throughout the tournament and IMO they deserved to win.

Jack, perhaps Puyol should've gone. But to be technical, by that point De Jong and Van Bommel should also have been gone -- and Robben too (for kicking the ball away, should've been a second yellow). The Dutch should have no complaints whatsoever about the officiating.

I found myself surprised at how thuggish the Dutch were in this game; they weren't angels in the earlier games but it was at a different level this time. For that reason alone, I was hoping for a Spain win.

The teams I most enjoyed watching this tournament? Germany and Uruguay.

It was Fabregas and Ramos who stopped Elia, Puyol wasn't involved. I don't think that was a foul anyway. EDIT: I take it back, just saw it again, it was a foul.
