QUOTE (Jose on Sir Bobby)
The BBC this morning reported the passing of Sir Robert William Robson, a legend of English football. A former player who as a coach went on to guide the English national team, earning worldwide fame, Robson managed many clubs during his long career, including Sporting Lisbon, Porto and Barcelona. At these three clubs he had as a collaborator José Mourinho, who learned of Robson's death after today's training session at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti.

Mourinho said: "I didn't talk with him in the last two months because it was hard for me. It was hard for me because I didn't want to think that he was dying, it wasn't that image of Bobby Robson that I wanted to keep forever, it wasn't that voice that I wanted to hear. I wanted, and I will always keep it with me, the Bobby Robson of every day, a man with an extraordinary passion for life and football, with extraordinary enthusiasm. Bobby Robson is one of those people who will never die, not just for what he did in his career, for a victory more or a victory less, but for everything that he gave to those who like me were lucky to know him and walk by his side. My thoughts and embrace go to his loved ones."

In his condolences, José Mourinho is joined by president Moratti and FC Internazionale, who are close to the family of Sir Bobby Robson in the memory of one of the great masters of English and world football.

QUOTE (MON on Sir Bobby)
Martin O'Neill has paid tribute to Sir Bobby Robson, insisting: "He'll be badly missed."

The Villa boss was speaking after the sad news this morning that the former England, Ipswich, Newcastle and Barcelona boss had died of cancer.

MON said: "He was held in very high regard by the players. They forgave all his eccentricities - it was legendary that he didn't know anyone's name.

"He had a fantastic career. Early on in the managerial stakes he had fights. Fulham got rid of him and then he went to Ipswich.

"He signed Frans Thijssen and Arnold Muhren, who were fantastic players.

"Thijssen was my kind of player because he dribbled everywhere. He signed proper players and made Ipswich a proper side.

"Then he went to have the time with England, went abroad, furthered his education at places like Barcelona.

"He will be badly missed. I hear there was a massive turn out for the game last week and I'm sure it was down to Bobby Robson.

"And when you think in his last days at Newcastle, they thought it was failure because he finished fifth."

Some good words from my 2 favourite managers. Didn't realise Jose was so close to him.

I actually just realised I went to his last ever game as manager. Newcastle had finished 5th the season before then a few games into the new season he came to VP and they lost 4-2, the next day he was sacked.

I think their attack is over-rated, to be honest. SWP is nowhere near as good as some people say. Robinho has yet to put in a single good performance away from home. Tevez.. everybody knows my feelings about him. Adebayor is a one season wonder so far. Santa Cruz.. Okay, I conceed that he is class.

I'd rather have what Chelsea have to be honest. Though I think they could sneak 4th, unless Arsenal start filling some gaps, which I'm sure they'll do.

I'm with Kurt on this one on everything but Arsenal. Adebayor is not a great player but they won't get anyone better. Toure is a great (or maybe good to some) player and they will not get anyone as good as him. I think they'll be worse than last season. RvP must be regretting signing that contract extension without waiting for the transfer window to end.

Fishdoll notes that Villa are currently leading Porto 2-0, with goals from Heskey and Sidwell. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

It's nice to be winning, but pre-season is all about fitness. Our players keep dropping like flies.

It's even funnier when you consider we sold our best player, our captain retired, our only new signing is injured and 3 first team players aren't even in the competition due to the U21 tournement. We also have 2 more first team players injured. Hilarity. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

To be perfectly fair, Fishdoll does note that Porto aren't playing a top XI (their keeper and best striker are on the bench, for example). But they do have a reasonably strong side out there.

Excuses, Excuses.

Milan are better and have a far more appealing sob story (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

You're trying to build up the excuses early so when you fail later on you'll have something to point to (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

While now you're using them to say 'We're winning in spite of having all these set-backs' Either way Villa comes out smelling like a rose (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

That wasn't really my intention, but in any case, we have alot of backups playing!

I like the Porto strikers name.. 'Hulk'. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

EDIT: Tennie, just curious, how would you pronounce this: "Leicester", It took my a while to understand what the American commentator was saying!
