There seems to be a divide on these boards. There are those who believe we should keep our Italian identity and those who are militant Brazilian fans who care little about national identity, but rather about a pragmatic belief in winning trophies no matter the cost of the soul of the team

Yes you got it right. I was also talking about milan's brazillians. If we signed fernando torres and messi then yes brazillians wouldn't make the difference. But right now our best players are brazillians and they are the players who make the difference. Thats what i was trying to say.

For me personally, milan is top football club who's number one priority is winning trophies and being a football club. I dont really understand what the point of having a family like atmosphere or a soul as you say when we last won the scudetto was 6 years ago.

But thats just me personally. I dont like seeing inter above milan and I dont like seeing milan in the uefa cup. I'm willing to support whatever necessary to get us back to the top, where barca and man u sit now.

Tuttomercatoweb is reporting that there was a 4 hour crisis meeting of Milan's leadership at Via Turati today. No statements were made by the directors as they left the building. The article indicates that Ancelotti is safe until the end of the season.

WHYYYY!!!!!! SACK HIM ALREADY, GODDDAMIIITTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why must galliani play these games when he knows we need a new coach.

My honest opinion is that Rino Gattuso makes all the difference in the world. My honest opinion is that a Nesta-Maldini defense would work like a swiss clockwork, while Shitteros and Kaladzity combined made us look second-class at highest. I do think that Andrea Pirlo gives us the unique passing many Serie A teams, including Inter dream of and search on the transfer market for years. And my true opinion is that in Paolo Maldini Milan has found not just the squad Captain for all times, but also the symbol of football beyond just red and black. And after all this said I find it very hard to agree with word like "brazilians make the difference". "Brazilians", meaning IMO Pato and Kaka are unique and essential. Do they make a difference? Honestly, the perfect Milan XI is the difference.

I agree with you partly. At one point in time those players you have mentioned were at the top of the world and yes brazillians were not needed. Maldini/nesta partenrship is way too slow and old. At one point, they were the best by far. Gattuso is 31 and yes he is still solid but there are better DM than him. De rossi who is italian is one of the best in the world and he would make a huge difference on our team. Pirlo just isn't the same with his passing game. He is still an excellent passer, but personally he's past his best. The statement about Maldini is true.

I agree on the perfect milan XI as well but i'm talking about the milan of 2009. Was I complaning when we could compete with manchester united with our team? The only players until this season i've truly disliked and insulted were gilardino/seedorf/dida. I felt those players were often times useless and did not desreve to be at milan.

But 2009, without kaka we look like a mid table team. Without pato our attack looks slow and useless.

You think Pirlo is past his best?

I guess Pato at 19 is hitting his peak years then, and Eto'o is surely on the decline too

No, I don't think he's past his best. I don't think Albertini did too - just that something very curious happened to him and he simply "stopped". Cannot explain it. I somehow fear a similar thing is happening with Andy.

how does pato and eto come into the conversation? You are making no sense. Pirlo is almost 30, eto is 27 pato is 19 if your talking age. Also if your talking skill, pato has been a much better player this season than pirlo has been. Eto is the best striker in the world right now.

Pirlo this season has been dissapointing. He was not the same player he was the year we won the champions league. His passing has been dissapointing, and he hasn't been as effective creativly as he used to be. I"d even go far as to say ronaldinho has been a much better player than pirlo this season.

I am becoming confused whether some of you guys really care all that much that milan are struggling in 3rd place and playing in uefa cup.

I am a fan of Pato and I don't think that way. if Pato plays with 9 Italians [and Kaka], I'm still happy.

We should seriously stop generalizing...

IMO the only trouble with Pirlo is his position. While playing for Lippi Pirlo was outstanding, but the tactical mastermind that is carlo plays him too deep and defensive. Pirlo is a creator not a defender.

Are strikers supposed to defend?

Not in the literal sense of the word, but Brazilian strikers are so lazy, if a player runs 2 feet away from them with the ball, they don't even make an attempt to try and win the ball. You should defend from the front, pressure them all over and they will make mistakes.

I didn't watch the Cagliari game but I watched the 8 minute highlights and I thought Pirlo looked great and fast playing as an AM, the same role he played in the World Cup.

I think he's better off playing forward. a new deep-lying playmaker should be brought in and Pirlo should replace Seedorf in the formation. I really do!

Maybe.

I think considering his characteristics, Pato is not supposed to defend much and I doubt if Carlo has asked him to do that either.

Don't think it's up to Carlo. Pirlo IMO did better played deeper then as AM at Brescia partially and Inter.
