I'd gladly have him back, but only if he were to accept a performance based pay package.

You play x number of minutes you get y euros in a week.

Fine by me. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) As long as it includes extra rations of pasta every for every goal scored.

Siena Coach: Ronaldo Move Difficult
Siena coach Marco Giampaolo doesn't believe Brazilian striker Ronaldo will join the Tuscan minnows and he has described a potential move as 'difficult'...

The former Inter, Real Madrid and Milan hit-man has been out of action since suffering a nasty ligament injury back in February.

Ronaldo has recovered and is training well but he is clubless after being released by Milan.

Flamengo, Paris Saint Germain and a whole host of other clubs have been linked with the player, most recently Siena came onto the radar.

However, the Bianconeri coach admits Ronaldo's move there is unlikely even though speculation regarding a €100,000 per goal scored deal is rife.

"The president decides even though I don't think Ronaldo has any intentions of coming to us," Giampaolo told Tuttomercatoweb.com.

"I don't believe he (Ronaldo) has anything to do with our realities and it's difficult he will come."

The Brazilian is desperate to get back into the game but he may consider retiring if no club offers him the chance to make a return to the pitch.

Ronaldo was close to PSG but he moaned about paying too much tax on his wages which many have regarded as cheeky given what he earns.

Things just don't seem to get better in Ronaldo-land! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) What crime did he commit to deserve this. He's slightly over 30 for crying out loud, not 85 as people like to think.

Realistically speaking, I don't think this one's coming true anytime. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I have more of a chance seeing that camel face Moratti playing form Milan than Ronaldo at this point in time.

Blog: All the Ron moves
So Ronaldo thinks he is too big to play for Siena? Steve Wilson thinks he needs a reality check and a leaf from the book of a true professional

(IMG:http://img37.picoodle.com/img/img37/3/11/7/f_RonaldoR9m_5005bee.jpg)

Ronaldo and Enrico Chiesa - what do they have in common? In the late 1990s they were two of the hottest properties in Serie A. Both came close to lifting the Capocannoniere title, Chiesa runner-up in 1996 and Ronaldo in 1998. Both made big money moves, Chiesa a £10m switch from Parma to Fiorentina in 1999 and Ronaldo in an £18m deal between Barcelona and Inter in 1996.

Both have been blighted by knee trouble. Back in November 1999, Il Fenomeno ruptured knee ligaments against Lecce, which he reinjured in his comeback against Lazio in April 2000. In February 2008, while with Milan, he was struck down again by a ruptured knee ligament. Chiesa damaged knee tendons in October 2001, wrecking his dream of playing at the 2002 World Cup.

Both of them at the age of 32 were contacted by Siena - but this is where their parallel lives take alternate paths. “With all respect for Siena, Ronaldo cannot play for a team who is fighting the drop into Serie B,” sneered his agent Fabiano Farah, showing no respect to perennial survivors Siena at all. Compare that to Chiesa's attitude. He grasped the chance to rebuild his career in Tuscany.

Scoring 32 goals in 129 appearances Chiesa became an idol to the Artemio Franchi fans, helping them 'fight the drop into Serie B' on five occasions. If Ronaldo could put his ego to one side he'd realise that Marco Giampaolo's side would be the perfect place for him to remind us of his talent. To paraphrase JFK: 'Ask not what a team can do for you, but what you can do for a team.'

I fear this may be the problem. Look at the offer Siena proposed - £80,000 per goal. For that kind of arrangement to work Ron would need to be fit and firing on all cylinders. I think that kind of challenge, in a serene, rural environment where he could be the big fish, would bring out the best in him. Just like it did for Chiesa when it seemed his top-flight career was reaching its end.

However, I suspect Ronaldo will hold out until some mug fooled by his past glories decides to pay him a fat salary with no strings attached. That sort of set-up will allow the one-time superstar to live in his comfort zone, putting in the minimum effort for the maximum return. It is a sad end for one who was once so great, it could have been so different if he had swallowed his pride.

Good article, but I still don't think Enrico Chiesa can be compared with Ronaldo. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Sad, but true. He's a very good forward even at this age, but R99 is a different beast altogether. I'd rather have him retire than play in any other club in Serie A, beside Milan. Reason, they'd kill him again, those defenders. And if he doesn't has a chance to win the CL (no other club beside Milan can promise him that), there's no incentive to go and play in the toughest league in the world. Ronaldo honors:

Wonder what's missing in that list. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif) I couldn't find any titles for our friend Enrico Chiesa, which doesn't necessarily mean he's not a good player, but just that Ronaldo and him are poles apart. Thanks for the share though, Trini, been a while since I've heard or read anything about R99.

I agree Ronaldo is in a class of his own!
I've also said it before that my first choice for Ronaldo won't be to see him in a Siena shirt.
But with that said - if his desire for football is still there but big teams aren't willing to take a risk, then he just might have to start some where. (Hope this doesn't turn out to be the case though, hope he does regain a acceptable level of fitness so that a Big Club would take a chance with him once more)
I'd love to see him entertaining fans (including myself) once again.
And I would also like if he could get the CL title he so deserves before his career ends.
Anywayz, lets take small steps first.

I don't know Trini, I'm usually a very optimistic person, but when it comes to R99 I just can't help shake of depressing thoughts. Things just haven't gone his way. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) It's scary to imagine what he could have accomplished were he not so constantly injured. We had to of the absolute best attacker and defender of all time playing in the same team (Paolo and Ronaldo) and they couldn't even manage on CL game together?! As things stand, there's a 99% chance of not seeing him play for Milan again (pun not intended, this time).

It was good to see Ronaldo on the pitch again for the first time in months, admitidly he didn't look in great shape but I am still hopeful that he can still make a come back as long as his desire is still there, anyway in the light of all this here is another article I came across at Goal.com today hilighting his future plans:
QUOTE
Ronaldo To Retire?
Brazilian forward Ronaldo has admitted that he may retire from football instead of plotting a comeback from his latest injury worry...

The 32-year-old has been out of commission since last February when he ruptured knee ligaments in a Serie A match while playing for AC Milan.

After the expiration of his contract last summer, Ronaldo recuperated in Brazil and started his march to fitness by training with Flamengo.

A number of European clubs are still interested in taking the World Cup winner on board, with Manchester City, PSG and Siena known to have sounded out a potential deal.

However, Ronaldo himself is unsure as to whether or not he will return to the game. The former PSV Eindhoven striker stated that he will be not rushed into a comeback, as he has not decided for certain to continue playing.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: "I don't know if I will continue to play or if I will retire. I have not taken a decision yet.

"I am in no hurry to make a decision. I want to complete my recovery.

"I could decide tomorrow or in a month's time what to do, but I still don't know."

This week saw the Phenomenon cross the white line for the first time in almost a year when he took part in a charity fixture in Morocco alongside former Real Madrid colleague Zinedine Zidane.

Ronaldo concedes that returning to the pitch invoked some fond memories, but also exposed the work he still needs to do in order to gain full fitness.

He continued: "It was beautiful to return to play because football is my life. But it was just an exhibition as I only played for 22 minutes.

"Professional football is a different issue."

Meanwhile, the player's agent Fabiano Farah has confirmed that Ronaldo will not be joining Siena under any circumstances.

He told GloboEsporte: "There is no chance he will play for Siena.

"Everyone would like to have a player like Ronaldo on his team and we appreciate all the interest, but with all due respect to Siena, after nine months recovering Ronaldo cannot play for a team that is struggling to not fall [into Serie B]. He has to play for a competitive team."

I'm no Ronaldo fanatic, but it seems like ever since he signed on the dotted line for Milan he's been snakebitten since, and it's impossible not to take some kind of pity on him. The apex was his shredding his knee back in February (has it been that long?). Then the unflattering photos of him in his BVDs, constant speculation about his weight..argh! I must admit it was nice seeing him smiling during interviews and playing again, even though it was essentially a cameo.

Speaking of pitiful, Dida was the only Serie A player who showed up for the charity match. That's pretty embarrassing for Italy, and I think the UN even called them out on it. For the Yanks in the house, the match will be re-aired this Friday at 8pm on FSC if any of you haven't seen it yet.
