QUOTE (zdrossoneri @ Sep 21 2008, 11:18 PM) *
An innocent question:

If we keep winning most of our games in the next 45-60 day, would people still think Pirlo is absolutely irreplaceable and Milan can't play football without him?

Because so far his absence hasn't disabled Milan, if anything, we've started winning our games and playing better football.

all this does is reinforce my theory that we cant play with pirlo and 2 def mids (even it's flamini who has played very well and ambro who's fairly consistent). pirlo is described by some as a no.10, but he isnt a pure one. a pure no.10 is a kaka, van der vaart, zidane who is capable of attacking defenders, dribbling, setting u p teammates score goals etc. pirlo is a pure playmaker and slows the game down, then factor in the other defensive mids who start deep and take too much time to get involved in the attack results in what we wee. i mean pirlo is pirlo, we all know what he can do. but we've all observed how slow and predictable we've become and thats been our main problem with our creativity. we need more mobility starting from our midfield and also our forwards. remember back a few years ago the only midfield cover we had was pirlo and gattuso (not pirlo and flamini, gattusso, emerson, etc (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) ) and we were awesome offensively and we dint exactly crumble defensively (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) .

when pirlo comes back i'd like to see him with with either ambro or flamini played in a pure defensive mid role, and play with a couple of strikers or ronnie, kaka, seedorf supporting a CF.

Here are my ratings:

Abbiati(6): He would have gotten a better rating if he had done better on Zarate's goal. Otherwise, very stable and solid goalkeeping. What I like about Abbiati is how he doesn't waste any time to put the ball back into play which leads to Milan being able to attack faster and catch the opposition off guard.

Zambrotta(7): Had a fairly quite game except for that atomic bomb of a shot which was key to our victory as younggun(if I'm not mistaken) mentioned. Milan played with much more confidence after that. Having Zambrotta as your right-back gives your team a whole new identity.

Maldini(7): He had a very good game, considering the kind of fast players he was up against. But Kaladze had to cover for him(which didn't help) on the occasion that led to Zarate's goal.

Kaladze(6.5): He was having the typical Kaladzey game until Ancelotti stepped up and told him to cut it out. Kakha seemed to get his **** together after that.

Jankulovski(7.5): Once more Jankulovski demonstrates why he is such a fan favorite. When you look at his expressions you see nothing but sheer determination. Lovely cross for Pato on the third goal.

Ambrosini(7.5): One of Europe's top defensive midfielders on his good day. And today was one of them. Never gives up.

Gattuso(8): Played in Pirlo's position and brought so much security to the middle of the park for Milan. Kept on fighting and winning balls. Ran after the ball tirelessly and left Milan's defense with less to worry about. This is where Pirlo is our Achilles’ heel. Fast teams exploit the crap out of him.

Seedorf(8): He decided to show up today and guess what? He was fantastic. Ancelotti needs to keep Seedorf motivated, whatever it takes. I don't care if he has to sleep with his wife... When the guy is in fighting spirit, he is capable of some pretty amazing ****. He played much deeper that usual and ran the show with great composure. Whether his 1-2 with the Lazio defender was an accident or not? I like to believe it wasn't.

Kaka(7.5): Did very good today and scored one of his trademark long range goals. Amazing struck shot. He places 'em where he wants 'em. For some reason though he played most of the game with his back to the opposition's goal, which he ironically mentioned he wasn't fond of before the match. He could have played a little bit deeper. When he did do that, he made some of those trademark Kaka runs that led to some great chances.

Pato(7.5): What a header for a Brazilian that is supposed to be good only with his feet. He went Oliver Bierhoff on that ball. Pato is our most dangerous forward. 'nuff said.

Borriello(8): He might have not scored, but he was so essential and effective as a towering center forward. Frankly I'm glad Gila is gone because he would have never been able to do what Borriello does for this team. Great control and fighting spirit. Won many high balls in the area and layed off for our other attackers. Without him, we would have not played the way we did today. His influence on the rest of the team is very important as he is able to hold his own in very tough situations between multiple opposing players and then bring other players into the game. This is something Milan has been missing for a long time. We didn't finally buy Drogba... And... We didn't need to.

Flamini(6): Came in and started doing what he does best. Put the opposition under pressure until they lose the ball. Didn't have enough time to completely get into the game though.

Ronaldinho(5.5): I just don't think he is doing anything for Milan that Milan wasn't able to do before his arrival. Sure he does a little bit of this and that here and there, but there is not much substance. I'll go as far as saying that this guy is not even 40% of what he used to be in his glory days. He is slow and reluctant. He will either start stepping it up or will become our second Rivaldo.

Emerson(5): Insert my Zurich rating for him here.

Carletto(7): He deserves it because I like how he was so involved in the game today and had that moment with Kaladze. But though I might not be asking for his head for now, I will say that he will have to win A LOT of games to convince me personally. Winning against Lazio is a Milan tradition. I want to see how the team will play against the small and defensive sides.

Forza Milan!

Sharing some of my though:

1. The TOP thing is we gain our fitness.

2. The GREAT thing is the losing routine makes us more united, determine and desire to win. (is it bad English?)

3. The FAIR thing is all our important players (except Kala, Emerson, Bonera, Favalli ...) can do very well.

4. Some CONCERNS are the linking btw Bo-Pa (they will probably play most in this season), the balance of the team when Pippo and Pirlo return.

5. A BIG CHALLENGE is we haven't proved ourselves with those teams who play counter-attack with 7-8 defenders in their box like Genoa and Bologna.

^^

The linking between Pato and Borriello is perfect:
