The thing is, people like to have it both ways. To play down Ronaldo they'll say he played in a great team. But apparently Rooney, Ferdinand, Carrick and Hargreaves are all over-rated, Fletcher, Brown and O'Shea are crap. So where's all these great team mates he has?

Of course, that's my bias coming into it, but I generally think a lot of people think that, even in England he's talked of as a complete and utter legend (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Kurt, it's a thing that's there to play our league down I'm sure of it. I suppose no one cared about us a decade ago, now that our teams are starting to dominate Europe again we are hated. A bit like the whole thing with Ronaldo, anyway where's Ricky (Warchant) he should be supporting me on this...

I think you'll find its the hype surrounding the EPL that gets people's backs up. I seem to remember Milan playing Juve in '02 and the general consensus in this country was 'lucky Italians' now look at last season and the same people were gloating about how the prem is the best league in the world (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) . And don't even get me started on Sky's usual "this is why the prem is the best in the world" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

Fact of the matter is league choice is all about opinion, the prem might be the best league but it's only because of the foreigners. The Serie A and La Liga have more 'home' players(I think), so IMO they are better.

The thing with Sky is when I watch the Spanish La Liga, Guillem Balague always seems to go on about how the Spanish is the best league in the world. Sky just love to make their customers think they're watching something really special. Like the Premier League Darts, I mean, come on...

This is the bit that confuses me, what hype? I'm not sure I get it. Do all the papers say "The Premier League is the best league in the World: FACT"? I don't see it, and even if they do say that it's the best league in the World, it's not hype, it's opinion.

The EPL is the only sporting league that earns more money outside of it's country than it does inside. So the only people giving this league any 'hype' are foreigners.

I dunno, you look at the Italian champions and they have very few Italians. United and Chelsea have a very English spine to their team, and they're arguably the best two teams in Europe right now. Even our 2nd tier teams like Villa, Everton and West ham are very English.

^^ @ kaka's brilliant ronaldo's the best in the world we all know. problem is for those you dont agree witht hat, they dont really ahve any other options to pick from (messi, torres, and thats about it) but in the end it's more a campaign against ronaldo than a campaign for messi or torres. myself i hate united but i'm not ashamed to say he's currently the best, overrated or not no one comes to close to him right now.

I can't vouch for others, but I'm the first to accept that he's the best in the world at the moment. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/innocent.gif) That's taking his last season as a benchmark. An year before that everyone was saying Kaka was the absolute best. I never bought much into that, sure he had a good season with us and won everything, that's that. Result? Kaka failed this season. Let's see how CR fares in the next couple of years. The thing with me is I like to measure things by taking into account more than one seasons of a certain player. A player who can spread it consistently over a period of 2-3 or more years.

Even if CR scored 42 more goals this season, that won't change things as how they are now. He was the best last season, and he may be this one too, if no one steps up from other teams. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) Where does that leave me? I'll still think he's on top of the world. And he's still an arrogant prink. I don't have to like him or think him as the world's best (ever) to enjoy his game. Let's wait and see where guys like Kaka, Messi, Ronaldo, Ibra, Torres, etc end up down the line once they're done.

Don't know about his team mates, but Manchester has been an English titan for oh so long. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) On their worst day, they are still the top 3 or 4 teams in the world along with Milan, Madrid, Bayern, etc.

Yeah, I do think you can accuse tv stations of 'hyping' since they're not, they're just promoting their stuff.

I'm surprised this league does get the tag of hype so much. If somebody is young and foreign (Not British) they always get labelled the next Maradona, Pele, etc. There are so many guys accross Europe, like Nani, Bojan, Pato, etc. they're considered World class player before they even do anything. Yet you'll have an unfashionable, typical English centre forward type player in England he doesn't have all the skills in the World bang in 20 goals a season and he'll be over-rated.. I just don't get it to be honest.

I hear and read just as much as I do people saying Serie A is the best, or La Liga. In fact, on ehre, very few people think the EPL is the best, I believe we even had a poll, so it kinda does prove my point really.

I'm sorry but that doesn't make sense. Leagues are made up of clubs, so it's the same thing.

It seems that people believe what they want though. If somebody comes out saying Serie A is the best, they're 'right', if somebody says the same of the EPL, it's 'hype'.

Agreed, if he does this over an extended period then he is one of the greats. He's not yet but he is on the right path let's just hope he doesn't go off the rails and start drinking or something so we lose another footballing talent.
